@@DoctorEyeHealth Thanks for choosing not to help me even with all of my comments left under your vitamin c video.. no one gives a shit about your video about what sunglasses you like.. thanks again for not helping me when I really need it
Thanks Doctor Allen, this video helped me big time in deciding what sunglasses to get. I recently got contacts and my eye doctor recommended that I start wearing sunglasses due to having a coronial nevus is both eyes. The whole lifetime warranty, made in America, and crazy high tech glass lenses really fit the bill. I managed to get a pair of P3s and a pair of aviators.
The best sunglasses I ever had were called "golf tint." They were gradient brown from the top and gradient green up from the bottom. The brown on top made the sky very blue and the green on the bottom made the grass really pop. I've never found anyplace else that does it, and the place I got them is closed.
This is in my top three favorite videos of yours! Living in Southern California and having multiple vision issues, sunglasses are critical for me in my daily life (which is spent mostly outside). It (pleasantly) surprised me to hear you recommend high quality glass lenses. My optician discouraged me from wearing my Maui Jim’s because of the glass, citing safety reasons...because a blow to the glass could potentially shatter the glass and pierce the eye. I would agree if the incidence of that happening is considerable but I haven’t heard it happening to anyone that I know and the fact you recommend glass lenses must mean the incidence is very low? I think that if he used the same logic, I shouldn’t drive a car because I could get killed in an accident...which is a risk but rather low. Would you say that’s fair to say that the risk of eye injury from the glass breaking is low?
He probably discouraged it because you could sue him if something did happen and he didn't say anything. That's why, even though glass is optically the best, most places don't sell them because they don't want to deal with something actually happening.
Hey thanks and good question. There may not be a specific healing benefit from tinted lenses but glasses with more of an amber or yellow tint are sometimes recommended for people with retinal disease as the filtering of blue light “may” help protect the retina from excessive oxidative stress. But that is more theory than clinical evidence.
Thank you for this information. The one question I kept having that you did not answer is: Do glass lenses shatter? And, if they do, wouldn't that be another reason to get plastic besides them being more lightweight?
Love your channel. There is a question that I can't really google for an answer. The question - Are there any differences between a transparent lens (white) with 100%UV protection and a tinted lens (let's say black) with 100%UV protection. In terms of UV protection ?
My Neurologist recommended pink or red tinted lenses for my photophobia and occasional migraines. You didn't mention them, and I wonder if they'll really perform better at protecting me from bright sun?
I am a HUGE Kaenon fan due to their lenses. I love the Copper 12 lens. I feel like greens really pop (normally, most greens in nature are so dull to me). Also, they give me better contrast. The lens is a proprietary material, so I know you can't see exactly what the composition is, but what do you think about the quality of the lens?
I got my first Randolph sunglasses few days ago. Aviator Bright Chrome with American Gray non-polarized lenses for flying airplanes. The P3 with Northern Lights is in my wishlist along with the Concorde with Cobalt lenses. I have Ray-bans with standard polarized and chromance lenses and a Oakley with polarized Prizm lenses and they are all really good but the Skytec Glass lenses are in another level. You can't explain the difference but you feel somehow it's better. I just don't like it more because it isn't polarized (but had to be that way). It's the only one I can wear inside my motorcycle helmet because if you wear polarized ones with the helmet face shield you gonna feel really sick because this combination distorts the image and colors. It doesn't happen if the lenses are not polarized. I learned that in the hard way. Another point for Randolph is the baionet temple design who makes it very easy to wear with headsets or any type of helmet.
I’ve had my Ray Bans for 3yrs, polarized lenses and love them still. Plan to get the lenses darkened soon tho. Thx for the information, this will be helpful.
Several years ago I found a pair of Vuarnet sunglasses. Vuarnet sells lenses called PX2000, PX 3000, PX 5000 and one referred to as Skilynx. From my description can you tell me which sunglasses I likely found/lost?
Just wondering if there is a recommendation for "fit-over" sunglasses? Or are they not recommended? (they all seem rather poor optical quality from my limited experience).
What do you think of the Roka C3 lenses? I recently bought two pairs of Roka sunglasses and absolutely love how they fit and feel, and the optics look pretty good two, but I'm wondering how they hold up from a technical standpoint. They are supposed to be Nylon and I don't know if C3 means category 3. I have a pair of Lewis and a pair of TL-1x. I love how light and comfortable they are, and they never fall off my face or slip down my nose.
I have some questions. Do sunglasses loose their UV 400 protection over time? Does sun exposure fade the UV protection on theglasses through irradiation? Fo Polycarbonate loose their inherent UV protection over time with UV exposure? I have understood Polycarbonate is an inherent safe material regards never loosing its UV protection while CR 39 lenses loose their UV 400 coating after 2 years of sun exposure. I live in a semi desert Zone like Arizona or New Mexico is were the sun is allways very strong. I understood Polycarbonate is the best material for UV safety (never loosing it without the wearer notice it) sincethe material itself blocks 97% of the UV rays. What do you say?

Hey Krishna! Anti-glare is just another way of saying Anti-reflective coating. It is best to have anti reflective coatings on both sides of spectacle lenses and at least on the backside of sunglasses. Dust and water repellent is a coating that is often combined with better or higher end anti-reflectives. Polycarb lenses naturally block almost 100% UV light and are more impact resistant, but do tend to scratch easier and have more color distortion.

I have transition lenses BUT they don't turn when I am in the car. I have looked into cover over sunglasses but I don't know what to look or watch for. Are regular cover over sunglasses ok to use with my glasses?
Most photochromic glasses require UV to darken. In the car the windows block this so your lenses don't get darker. I have Transitions Drivewear which are designed to work partly from visible light so do get darker in the car. I've also got Transitions Signature V8 and they do go a little dark in the car. I drive an old Land Rover so pretty much always have the window open - as there is no room for your elbow 😎 Overall I am happier with contacts and Serengeti wraparound sunglasses. But the Drivewear are good too.

I really want to know if i should skip wearing glasses with blue light when i am exposed to sun or when i am studying in sunlight? Plzzz answer me cuz i have Been wearing all the time for a long time 🥺
Video suggestion: "How to buy sport goggles for adults". Whenever shopping for sport goggles, I find most shops only have frames for children. They will try to sell me the largest child's size. "No thanks". And are absolutely clueless about appropriate frames - will not shatter on impact by a ball, shuttlecock, racket, indoor hockey, etc. So the challenge I am having is: frames for adults & how to stop fogging. Is this true? The higher the index, the more difficult it is to fit the lens into sport goggles since most sport goggles are curved.
Hi. I'm about to buy randolph aviators and am wondering about lenses material. One states polycarbonate, other resin lenses. Is it resin means "glassy" material? Or is it still plastic? Thank you!
Well looking at their current website, it seems they now have glass lenses or nylon lenses. Im not 100% sure if the glass is being referred to as Resin, but it sounds like it may.
When buying a pair it usually will have a sticker or it may be written on the side temples. Otherwise you can bring them into some eye clinics and they may have a UV meter. I know we have one at our clinic.
I have a question! With the luminous transmittance, I'm usually squinting even on a cloudy day so would the category three be a better lens for that than a one or two? Also is it true that blue eyes are generally more sensitive to light than darker color eyes? I feel like that's a hoax but I just wanted to check lmao

Yes, there are 2 brands I know of. Either Enchroma (highest quality I know of but in the 300 range) and pilestone (100 range). Both are found on their websites or through amazon. Here was my Enchroma review. ua-cam.com/video/fsdpQW7_eTc/v-deo.html
Hi have you done a video on lenses for welding?
Sunglasses are an absolute MUST for eye floater sufferers.
I should do my own test on the best sunglasses tint for floaters...do you know if you see less with any type of tint?
@@DoctorEyeHealth To be honest I need to invest in a good pair, ive seen on reddit that polarized are the best, my sunglasses I can still see mine, cheap pair, better than nothing though.
I'm pretty happy with my oval round polarized raybans. Randolph is great. When I did research Ray-Ban is similiar to the quality of Randolph.
OOh oval shapes can be tough to pull off. But if you can do it, all power to you! Polarized is definitely the way to too.
This is my 2nd oval round frame as i always chose squarish styles. The fashionista in me wanted to try something new and YESSS i can def pull em off. Ray-Ban polarized lenses are the best qualty ii n their lens types.
My new prescription sunglasses have polarization but when held front of pc screen show blotchy tint, as if the tint did not extend all the way out to the edge of the hd lens. Optician says it’s normal due to size of lens, etc. Advice on this?
Question for y’all!
Does anyone know much about those red “sleep” lenses and yellow lenses? They’re both for bluelight. And Yellow’s for outside.
Q: How are these lenses against UV rays though?
Every lens has a built in UV protection inside it's material. Except index 1.50 lenses, which needs additional UV coating during production.
Which lens colour is good for eyes?
There is no better shades than the classic RB3119 Olympian: G15 lens, mineral glass and a shape that fully protects from any directions
Please explain the blue wave technology of Randolph engineering. Please let us know about impact resistance of the Randolph engineering glasses. I need to know about the Tri Acetate Cellulose lens material and also about the benefits of Red colour sunglasses. Also need to know that the Red coloured sunglasses block 100% blue light.
Very interesting. Thanks.
Any recommendations for woman’s sunglasses?
So, Randolph is tops in the USA. How about Britain? I believe purchasing the top brand is the best choice.
(UK)
That’s a good point, I do know of several great European brands but I should do some more researching
i suffer from Visual Snow syndrome with the exact same symptoms as you have. can you please recommend sunglasses that are good for VSS ? Thank you !!!
Have you tried any fl-41 tinted sunglasses from Axon optics or Theraspecs?
@@DoctorEyeHealth sadly not.. i have no experience with good sunglasses. but thank you, i will check them out.
Can i ask you, do you think the VSS symptoms can get worse ? i have that mild static since i was a little child. the other symptoms, like the ones you have, just came about 6 months ago. now im wondering if it could get worse..
Where’s the discount code? Pretty pricey but I’m sure they are great quality
I drive an old Land Rover so pretty much always have the window open - as there is no room for your elbow 😎
Overall I am happier with contacts and Serengeti wraparound sunglasses. But the Drivewear are good too.
You don’t talk about optical correction - so the refractive index of the lens doesn’t distort the image to the eyes. Is this covered in another video?
Hello doc What can you say about these lenses?
German TAC polarized with Antiscratch and Superhydrophobic coating
what lens material does oakley use they say plutinoite but they dont say what it is?
Plz answer my question. I am myopic i wear -1.25 glasses.. MY glasses have blue light filter in them i weat them all the time like even when i am not using digital devices even when i am exposed to the sun.
I'm a big Tom Ford, Salvatore Ferragamo and Randolph fan
Thank you So much 😊
You're welcome 😊
Are black polarized ray ban lenses good for driving in a very sunny weather ? or are drivewear glasses beter ?
Thank you for the information and you are very handsome 🥰
Thank you! 😃
Maui Jim’s…the best period!
What do you think about Tom Ford sunglass lens quality?
Can i customize the lens of sunglasses to my prescription?
Where would I look for sunglasses of this quality that competition shooters can use? (Ballistic rated, so they don’t shatter if metal hits them.)
What glasses tint can I use, if any, to partially hide floaters indoors or when reading, because they're distracting for me.
Thank you

Do they do prescription sunglasses lenses?
How would we know if a pair of sunglasses has 100% uv protection?
When buying a pair it usually will have a sticker or it may be written on the side temples. Otherwise you can bring them into some eye clinics and they may have a UV meter. I know we have one at our clinic.
I have a question! With the luminous transmittance, I'm usually squinting even on a cloudy day so would the category three be a better lens for that than a one or two? Also is it true that blue eyes are generally more sensitive to light than darker color eyes? I feel like that's a hoax but I just wanted to check lmao
Hey there, I have brown eyes and still very sensitive to light, go for Serengeti Drivers polarized lens and you won’t be happier.
Are those skyforce polarized?
Is there a store(s) online or in person that you recommend or to avoid?
What about the amount of UV protection
