Just a quick little video to show the improvement in GPL in the last 17 years... Thank you to all those who have improved this sim over the years! Truly breathtaking.
Even in its basic form this is still a good game for the physics and handling. Yes the Ai is predictable every lap and the graphics lack the modern touch but I still get sweating palms trying to hang onto the car and shave time off each corner. I think a lot of people who dismiss it as old really need to try it on a proper sim rig.
gladly you can tune the ai now days, even if they are predictable, they're still fun to battle with on straights and slow corners, and even when that fails, i think GPL is one of the best sims for hotlapping out there, being that its probably got the best custom track selection ive seen to date.
You can but need the original CD for it to work. I bought my copy off eBay like 3 mo ago for around $10, after that, download the patch and there you go. Better then ever! You can just google the latest patch update.
Back in the day, I used to play GP 2 and later GP3 quite a bit, heck I even owned and played GP4 but the best were 2 and 3; at the time I was a race car technician at Sears Point Raceway, now known as Infineon Raceway in Sonoma California. I purchased at Wine Country Motorsport, the store at the racetrack, Grand Prix Legend. Unfortunately, I was never able to make it work on any PC I owned, even though I was able to play the GP series avidly. I still miss being able to have played GP Legends. No gaming these days! :)

I always wished they'd fix it so the car doesn't want to drift out of control on a slow turn. I know how to drift, especially with real cars in road racing situations. This game's physics in this regard are pretty bad. They always said they wanted to make it easier for the kids to make the cars drift. The real cars didn't drift so easily. Fix that & I'd buy it again. Otherwise, a cool game. Now if they could just make the sounds more realistic. I loved the sound of the BRM with the H8. Pure music.
The physics are just as good as anything out there today. Very few improvements on new sims since then. And they actually can mod the physics, they just choose not to with the 67s
***** I know this sounds a bit daft but sometimes newer is not always better. Its when you drive these cars on the very edge that they come alive. Its kinda like why people spend loads of money on real life classic cars when modern cars are quicker and safer.
With the 1967 Historical Mod released a few month ago, all the 67 Physics have been largely improved, and separated in seven carsets, depicting the evolution of the cars between the beginning and the end of the 1967 season

Very impressive! I used to play this back in the day on a pentium2 350mhz 16meg video card. Makes me want to play it again!

This game is a "Legend". So old and can still rival modern race sims in terms of driving realism. And all those mods for it.

Not sure how you did this but was pretty cool!
At the time of this release, PS Grand Turismo had an 8hz physics engine. GPL had 188hz physics.

They had a 1965 mod that addressed this. I think they all specifically avoid messing with the physics of the vanilla 67 setup.
