In this week’s podcast, I had the chance to talk to surfboard reviewer Thomye of @thomyesurfs who probably surfs waves that are the smaller everyday mushy beach breaks that a lot of us surf regularly. We talked about the surfboards that changed his life, how he optimizes his boards, and a ton of other helpful tips.

WOW!!! As a 58 year old surfer, I can relate to what Thomye is saying. I too, am a goofy footer that is right handed and heavily front footed. Always working on being more of a back footed surfer. Thanks for the great content.

Hell yeah! The legend himself @ThomyeSurfs
Great episode, really fun to listen to. Thomye has being (and still is) a huge inspiration for me, as someone who started surfing at 39yo, since watching other amateur surfers is incredibly useful to me because I feel it's a better comparison when I look for progressing myself.
You can look at pros and retired surfers, but they generally are on a different league. Also Thomye is a super nice guy, he's been really supportive with me and helped me out finding a good board for me (for reference, I'm riding a Sweet Potato). He also experiments a lot with fins and goes through things that sometimes are overlooked by bigger content creators, I highly recommend following with him.
    Best! 🤙

Great video. The first thing we lose is mobility as we get older, second is strength.

I've watched your surfing progress over time it's obvious. The best way to improve is through water time.

I have a theory that goofy footers who rip backside aka Caroline Marks, are right handed goofy footers. On the top turn you can throw your dominate/strong shoulder and it looks amazing!

Volume has become too much of a focus. The long-term shapers that I have spoken to / heard from, focus less on volume and more on design (length, width, thickness, foil, rocker, outline)
Great interview! - Thomye makes great content for the surfing world.

really interesting content here, thank you... to be honest and giving my opinion ( 30 years surfing) and starting to ride mid lenghts nowadays, i really think that the type of waves you usually surf have a big impact on your opinion. Don`t know if you understand what i am trying to say but the thing is, i ride a ci mi, every single day now and i am a portuguese surfer so, most of the days, i ride beach breaks and my local spot is a point break that , unfortunately, doesn`t work most of the days... but i feel like the ci mid is a blast, it`s 10 liters more than my past shortboards but i can just surf it like a shortboard most of the times, so just can`t agree with the feeling of it being similar to a long board. I ride the sorter one , the 6`6 with 36 liters of volme and i am 1, 70 cm and 68 kg...

Remember to factor in the weight of a rash vest + wet wetsuit + wet booties.
