Marc Bolan born Mark Feld; 30 September 1947 - 16 September 1977) was an English singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and poet. He was the lead singer of the band T. Rex and was one of the pioneers of the glam rock movement of the 1970s.
Bolan's appearance on the BBC's music show Top of the Pops in March 1971, wearing glitter and satins, is often cited as the beginning of the glam rock movement Music critic Ken Barnes called Bolan "the man who started it all". T. Rex's 1971 album Electric Warrior, with all songs written by Bolan, including the UK chart topper “Get It On”, has been described by AllMusic as “the album that essentially kick-started the UK glam rock craze.” Producer Tony Visconti, who would also work with the other major glam rock pioneer David Bowie, stated, “What I saw in Marc Bolan had nothing to do with strings, or very high standards of artistry; what I saw in him was raw talent. I saw genius. I saw a potential rock star in Marc - right from the minute, the hour I met him.”
Bolan died at the age of 29 in a car crash two weeks before his 30th birthday. In 1997, a memorial stone and bust of Bolan, Marc Bolan's Rock Shrine, was unveiled at the site where he died in Barnes, London. As a member of T. Rex, Bolan will posthumously be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.

In England in the 70's, after the Beetles, icons rose up. Elton John, David Bowie, and Marc Bolan were noticeable superstars, filling the void. All 3 were over the top outrages glam performers. But also super talented. They carried the post World 🌍 war teenagers, born in the later 1940's, brought up with the Beetles and Rolling Stones, into the 70's. It started with these guys, who would dress up in anything to be recognised. Marc was one of them. All ego, great talent, and great music. "Get it on" Marc, 💎 God bless.

I’ve heard this fiasco of a story has been used in law classes. This doc was over 20 years ago, so what is missing is when Tony Visconti sued the trust and won, also opening the door for Gloria and Rolan to also get some money from them, but why they left out Bowie giving some financial help to Rolan to go to school is strange. I wish they had updated the story because it does have a happier ending to it.

Double dealing/ deceit/ greed/ unfairness/ theft and absolute, total and complete disregard for the individual who generated the whole core assets that in turn generate the cash flow!! It’s despicable, and I’m sure that a number of the individuals seen and/ or heard in this quick insight to the darkness and greed surrounding Marc, are recipients of his heir apparent rightful fortune!!

    • @thesoultwins72
      @thesoultwins72 Місяць тому +5

@rexpayne7836........Yes, by all accounts he was a total shit, treated people like dirt and although he was married or in serious relationships, had numerous affairs with other women. In fact, in 1973 his then wife [June Child] left Bolam when she found out he was having an affair with his backing singer, Gloria Jones.
To be fair, Jones remained Bolam's 'partner' until his death in 1977 [they never married - even though they had a son together]. Like a lot of 'Rock Stars' he believed all the hype about himself and grew incredibly self-absorbed and arrogant.
Interestingly Gloria Jones was arguably just as talented as Bolam but probably because she was black, never gained the same levels of fame. Starting out as a Church/Gospel singer, Jones formed her own Gospel group with accomplished ex-Beatle's pianist, Billy Preston.
However, in 1964 Jones launched a solo career as a 'Soul' singer that was to culminate in near-mythical acclaim. She teamed up with legendary songwriter and producer Ed Cobb, and released her first solo single, "Heartbeat Pts 1 & 2''. The song was reasonably successful and resulted in Jones attracting a lot of interest. She embarked on several tours and did a number of TV performances.
Still in 1964 and after switching record companies to 'Uptown' [a subsidiary of Capitol/EMI] but retaining Cobb as her songwriter and producer - Jones recorded arguably one of the most significant and sought-after singles in popular music history. That record was 'Tainted Love' - and its impact was phenomenal.
Although actually released in 1965 on her new record company's 'Champion' record label, 'Tainted Love' literally exploded and cemented Gloria Jones's status as the undisputed 'Queen of Northern Soul'. I have never ever known a record that has had the same impact as 'Tainted Love'.
And I was lucky enough to hear it when it was very first played on the Northern Soul scene in 1973 by acclaimed NS DJ Richard Searling at the ill-fated Va-Va's nightclub in Bolton. It literally blew the roof off! Sadly Va-Va's was raided by the police and closed down in July 1973 after only a few months. [I was there that night!]
Searling had the only copy of 'Tainted Love' in the country at that time, so we had to wait until September of 1973 to hear it again. Now according to Gloria Jones herself, the record was brought over to England by a soldier in the US military and he 'swapped' it for some cigarettes with a British guy - who then took to a local Soul Club and got the DJ there to play it.
With respect to Ms Jones this is a complete myth. Searling [who like many of the top NS DJ's regularly went over to the US to scour little known record companies for records that he could play] found a copy and brought it back to the UK. However, Ms Jones states that she didn't really enjoy recording the song. [coming from a strict religious background, the song's 'subject matter' was very risque].
Whatever the case 'Tainted Love' again exploded on the Northern Soul scene when Richard Searling became resident DJ with Russ Winstanley at the infamous 'Wigan Casino' and got the chance to play it again. Once more, it took the roof off and its association with the Casino was permanently established.
As with many of these extremely rare NS records [an original 'general issue' copy of 'Tainted Love' on the Champion label fetches approx £300 - and a demo copy will set you back closer to £500] it was massively 'bootlegged' as NS fans clamoured to get their own copies.
Although absolutely monumental on the NS scene and one of the most beloved Northern Soul 'anthems' ever - very few people outside of the NS scene knew anything at all about the record. But that all changed in 1981 when Marc Almond and David Ball - who had formed synth-pop band, Soft Cell and were regulars at a Sheffield nightclub - heard the record and released a version.
It went straight to Number 1 in the UK pop charts and became the 'best-selling UK single of 1981'. Ironically, Gloria Jones's original version still remained almost completely unknown by the vast majority of the British record-buying public. Despite this, Ms Jones enjoyed further success by releasing the excellent 'Come Go with Me' LP [on the Uptown record label] in 1966.
I have an original copy of the LP and the title track ['Come Go with Me'] also became a huge favourite on the NS scene - particularly at Blackpool Mecca. [Jones who had gained a degree as an advanced level classical pianist - accompanied herself on the record which gave the song a very polished and accomplished delivery.
Personally, I actually prefer 'Come Go with Me' to 'Tainted Love'. But don't misunderstand me! 'Tainted Love' was a phenomenon and Gloria Jones' original version pisses all over Soft Cell's! Get a copy of Gloria Jones's original version, put it on your turntable, crank up the volume and I promise you - it will blow your f**king socks off!

I find it very strange that someone so young would have written a will ? How old was he when he had written one, 12years old ? I am a great fan of T Rex. When my husband passed, at his funeral I had played Get It On. It was the first dance we had together at my Aunty's place. I had bought the Electric Warrior Album and having a big family that loved music, it was a hit !! But someone nicked it a few weeks later. What a loss for me . Still pissed off about it today.

My pal is a singer, she says she was the product of a dallinance Bolan had with her Mother who was a dancer. They went to America as part of a documentary to trace her DNA a test was done that proved she is also the daughter of Marc, a half sister of Rolan and is also due an inheritance. A super injunction was taken out by Gloria Jones to stop her claiming. Get that... So much for the Children of the Revolution

Bolan screwed them by not being an adult, paying his taxes and making a will. His legal beneficiary was his then wife, who was harassed for her portion of taxes for a comoany she had no control over. Where was his "family" during that debacle? He was an idiot, cheater and drug addict who obviously didn't care about his family enough. Stop giving him a pass. He almost ruined his wife, his mistress thought she would be rich one day and is now selling a sob story she's been trying to sell since he died decades ago before putting a bottle down and making a will. Sad, but true.

Alesis did step up their game with the Strata Prime e-kit. As other reviewers of this kit have pointed out, it has a few issues, so once Alesis comes out with a properly tested e-kit that does not have the issues, although most are minor, I can not recommend Alesis e-kits as there are better similarly priced e-kits from other companies. It would have been nice to see you and hear you playing with the others more and get your bandmates' real-time opinion of the Alesis Strata Prime e-kit. Unfortunately, as this is an Alesis sponsored video, you did not really say what your actual honest thoughts are on the kit, and it seemed being a sponsor video you avoided talking about what you dislike and any problem you had playing the e-kit. I bet if you played the brand e-kit, I have you would consider playing it live for any style music including jazz, as I do play a lot of jazz on it. The cymbals on my e-kit feel and respond just like real metal cymbals to play. The other thing my e-kit has over Alesis is better sensitivity and sound depth with the cymbals. Just like good metal jazz cymbals, you can get all kinds of sounds and nuance sounds out of them. My hi-hat is a 2-piece and much more realistic to play over the overly floppy 1-piece hi-hat the Alesis kit has. I am not saying I have the best e-kit there is as there are even better ones, I am just saying if you played a real good e-kit such as like the one I have or better(my e-kit was a little less than the cost of the Alesis Strata Prime e-kit), then you know it is hard to tell you are playing an e-kit and not an accustic drum kit.
