I always thought Oryx used him as part of the process of corrupting light. It's the festering light dropping that awakens him and starts the encounter. Perhaps this light also strengthens him as without it bolstering us we cannot hope to harm him as we kill ourselves to exhaustion. There's definitely a reason his lair is built like this.
I think there's something else; the Light being distorted could've been part of an experiment to Take Light and have a later evolution of Golgoroth be progenitor to Hive/Worm hybrids who naturally possess a balance of Light and Dark, with the ability to Take, with the King's will built into them so that he may live through them - to define a Final Shape by wielding Light and Dark as analogues of hammer and anvil; building it Ascendant, then brute-forcing it onto reality. A plot that, if this interpretation be true, Savathun had been inspired by. Given her Lucent Brood and her becoming Risen, as well as trying to 'Take' the Traveller itself and keep it in her hands to, in a sense, 'break' The Game, there could be a tangent-sum of credibility. Albeit there's also room for the family of Oryx - Oryx included - to be themselves Risen, reclaim their places, and orient against Xivu, her Witness, and Calus.
I had to stop watching mynameisbyf for awhile for the simply fact of needing new good lore readings to listen too while I work😅😅 LOVE THE AMAZING CONTENT MAN!!
Hey byf have you ever considered making a lore video about The Guardian? Yknow us? That would be cool talking about how this “new” guardian has risen to become the best and surpassing old legendary guardians pretty fast after being revived
As always, another fantastic video! I wish that there were more concrete info about who/what Golgoroth is; the lore of all the stuff in King’s Fall is so intriguing. I’d love to understand more about him and the War Priest especially. Enjoy your vacation! I hope you get the chance to have some proper rest and recuperation! All the best! : )
Hey byf, taking a break is important, I appreciate you wanting us to have videos while ur on break but do not burn yourself out! We'll be here regardless :)
Thanks for the heads-up, Byf. Amidst the seasonal burnout in Destiny, I turn to the monthly content of the channel. Looking forward to the TSLAYP episode(s).
I always thought Golgirath was the Ogre that the Darkness took over to communicate with Oryx. I thought when the Darkness left the ogre it left a little of its power behind and it had to feast on light to survive.
I believe that Golgoroth is a testament in the fact that it survived possession by the darkness, this one unborn Ogre maintained its life when met with the final shape. so Oryx kept it as a testament to the sword logic. its flesh endured the final shape and so its shape remains as a testament
In Latin, the prefix ab- means "from" or "away" (see, e.g., abject, absolve, abdicate, abhor). So in that sense, I think the title "ab-Xol" means something like "issuance of Xol" or "that which has come to us away from Xol", as the following line declares ("Xol issued you to eat us").
Golgoroth could be a direct converter of light to tribute. Sure Oryx could straight eat light, and he does, but with Golgototh he's also got a tribute drip feed and a powerful guard.
Personally I think golgroth was supposed to be a challenge for crota. If he could kill golgroth he could get the tablet he wanted, and in killing golgroth he would have proven he was worthy of it. But I also believe that golgroth had more purposes than just a challenge for crota.
I think that Golgoroth is both a representation of the Sword Logic, and proof of how it can be corrupted or otherwise twisted. His body pulses with organs not present on a normal Ogre, as he was created that way, but fueled by the Light present in the Cellar. But this very Light is his greatest weakness, showing that the Sword Logic is not the only solution to the questions the universe presents us as Guardians. Golgoroth is granted power by the Sword Logic and the Corrupted Light, but he is in turn defeated by some of the very Light that was a part of what created him. Perhaps it's a bit of a stretch, but that's what I like to believe. That we conquer those who steal our Light and threaten the balance of the universe by beating them at their own game, putting our own twist on the rules and throwing it back at them.
A testament is different from a Will, a Will describes what is intended for this or that, and whom it is to be bestowed upon. A testament is a statement, a declaration of state, or belief, a final description of a thing. "Beign of sound mind and body, knowing of no impediment mental, physical or spiritual......." is a testamental declaration for instance.
Anyone else getting Mass Effect vibes? If the Witness is truly looking to pluck species he deems worthy for merging and further evolving the Sword Logic. Sound a lot like the pyramid ships are actually the Reapers and we will meet a young (Eliksni) child who becomes the (Guardian) character we have to bargain with in the end... 🧐Hopefully we actually get different endings! Calling it Now People!! Hopefully no one mentioned this yet lol
Interesting. But when are you gonna do a vid on the new headless ones lore? I haven’t read the new book yet, and was thinking of doing so and the first book, but I just realize how boring that’d be.
There will be no Videos on Festival of the Lost Titans, Hunters, and some Warlocks all cried out in unison "NO LORE DADDY PLEASE DONT MAKE US HAVE TO READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
My Theory is that golgoroth is the thrall/ogre that oryx uses to commune with the deep and being that close to a connection with the deep mutated it. Either that or the hive gods experiment on making a new hybrid between hive and worm
I have my doubts about your interpretation of the usage of Testament, since you use both definitions without evidence. By logic, the two are very interchangeable, so not really reason why the words have to be the definitions you describe; I could very easily swap the positions around, or use one definition for both words, and it would make as much sense. Definitely the flimsiest part of the video and I can't believe in the idea that Golgoroth would have been a new generation of Orge because of it. The idea of worm/Hive hybrids is an interesting idea, though I wish you gave more solid evidence for it instead of shots in the dark based on definitions.
I'd like to point out that Golgoroth's name is very similar to the real life "Golgotha" which, according the New Testament in the Bible, is the place where Jesus Christ was crucified. What that might mean in relation to Golgoroth itself, I don't know. Just think it's interesting.
Golgoroth's original design was to destroy oryx and Crota but Oryx was smart and twisted Golgoroth to his own design, i belive it was another grimoire card that stated it, i could be wrong, the lore does talk about an Oger created by the worm gods who was specifically created to destroy Oryx to ensure if Oryx was weak that there would be something powerful enough to destroy him or him to destroy if he is strong
I don't care what anyone says... Hive Ogres will ALWAYS remind me of Menos Grande Gillians from Bleach... I mean come on they both shoot a Cero Beam out of their mouth/eye...
Golgoroth is likely derived from Golgotha, the site of Christ's crucifixion, which could be a clue to its meaning given the heavy Christian allegories present in Destiny. Golgoroth may in effect be a marker, whose death activates a spell intwined in the Tablet of Ruin it is bound to, that when Oryx falls, his soul doesn't fade from existence but goes instead to the Deep, to return after the pilgrimage of true death. Savathun did say something to the effect of the Taken King returning, I don't think she lied, Oryx's death seemed to trigger her acting directly against the Witness by receiving the Light, she plays a very similar game to Mara Sov, she doesn't tell the truth when a lie would suffice, but she also doesn't tell a lie when she can tell the truth instead.
@@markricheard1870 bro, you have a silent god who watches over the last city of mankind after a worldwide apocalypse who brings the worthy back from the dead to fight a final battle against good and evil to preserve the remnants of mankind. I ain’t shoehorning nothing, it is quite literally a Christian allegory
@@xvx_k1r1t0_xvxkillme7 Godhood is relative, Omnipotence is actually less common amongst religious groups than much more limited awareness and control. But the differences between the Traveler and Witness are more akin to passive vs active gods. The Witness appears more impressive because of its active and showy nature, it appeals to your identity, your fears, your ego, your desires, so it fits the mold of what most would consider a god. The Traveler does nothing, it gives according to an enigmatic nature, its existence drives the Witness to muster all of its power to destroy it, at a minimum this confers a level of respect for it, more likely, the Traveler is a danger to the Witness. One does not muster all one's power to destroy the impotent and obliterate a group on the brink of extinction, who have no desire to leave the confines of their system, if they do not fear it.

Woah really!?
The DPS was very optimal, the frames said it all. Respect.
Byf i hope you know the community truly loves you. You are like that one brother who knows everything.

the lore does mention that an oger was created which was prophesized to destroy oryx if he became weak, that Oryx twisted to his own design
