Usually you have to do both (higher intake and higher exhaust) to make more power. If you have high intake but lots of backpressure you won't get much done. If you have no backpressure but a restrictive airbox you also won't get much done.

You could make more power individually, but in this case if I were to do both I would need a tune which costs a lot and I would rather get a tune and exhaust at that point

@@muddymir3796 Its very cheap (or free) to take away all your backpressure (straight pipe).

I usually ride in a very dusty OHV park so the airbox delete is a no no. I straight piped it though and put a big jet.

I wouldn’t recommend this cuz the bikes already rich from factory… removing the lid & the spark arrester makes it run more rich. For better info look at curvo racings videos. I’m pretty sure he did dyno tests.

I think you might have gotten confused. Most quads and atvs are lean from the factory to reduce emissions (at least that’s what they say). Removing the lid or spark arrestor makes a bike run even more lean, which would make the engine not run as well. On a carbureted engine you have to tune with jets in the carb, so it won’t automatically adjust the tuning , but since this is fuel injected quad the ecu can accommodate for the very lean condition and bring it back to the original amount of fuel. Removing the air lid does not add as much flow as a slip on exhaust, so the ecu can supply just enough fuel to make it run alright. There is one video where Cuervo talks about removing the air lid and showing the gains in power, and saying it’s safe for the engine, he did say that you cannot remove both the spark arrestor and the air lid because the quad will run way too lean, so you just have to choose one or the other. I also think there is more videos where Cuervo talked about this but it’s been a while since I watched those videos so I don’t quite remember every piece of information.

@@muddymir3796 yea i had a 07 raptor with the lid off and a fmf exhaust with no spark arrestor and it ran really lean it was getting a lot of air but i also had a power commander 5 on it so i just plug my laptop into it and loaded a preset tune for air box lid off and fmf exhaust

@@antegrepo3536 4 strokes can’t run rich, it’s only 2 strokes as they have to have an oil:fuel ratio
