This episode is quintessential Eric Rosen: Hedgehog thumbnail. Hot Tea Szn. Funny mate. Clipart hedgehog walking across the screen. London. Someone call an ambulance meme IRL . All that was missing was a rubber duck or a photo of a goat playing chess.
The clipart hedgehog walking across the screen had me laughing so hard people around me were, like, "How are you finding chess so hilarious?" and I didn't know what to say 🦔🤣
The opponent's name in the second game in original greek is Πτολεμαῖος, which is Ptolemaîos with english pronanciation, and Ptolemy as the english decided to say it. He was the successor of Alexander the Great and became the Pharoh of Egypt and was the ancestor of Cleopatra.
@Eric, this video is missing the timestamps in which we could see the opening names. That piece of info was really helpful as many times we are not able to understand the name of the opening in the oral format.
22:34 that name i believe is just a Hungarian for an ancient scientist (Ptolemy in English), and i remember him as a geocentrist from school! (yes with my >90% absence its pretty crazy to remember the random stuff)
Judging by the name, I think you played a famous Dutch person in the beginning. Tex de Wit is a journalist working for several Dutch TV programs, namely Zondag met Lubach and...Makkelijk Scoren. Tex is a great player, once having an over the board rating of 2300+.
Can’t help asking. Since you play Taimanov a lot what is your take on O’Kelly? I have played a6 on move two for years. I recognize familiar positions when you play Taimanov. I suppose for one thing a6 seems slow, but then after that the game flows easily. I learned the Sicilian by my mistakes mostly and at some point I was desperate for more aggression after playing c5. People recommended the O’Kelly and since then it has been my main weapon. I’m just curious if you ever came across it or considered fun
In Game 3, I never much liked N:c6, bc:; and I believe you handled the ensuing tactics very nicely. I feel like I learned something watching. Thanks. Game 1 was a textbook Sicilian and it looked to my amateurish eye that f4?! was a mistake, especially after Kh1. Pawnstorming is often double-edged, IMHO.
Then the king takes his bishop. So it's either knight for bishop, or pawn for pawn. Doubling up your pawns to save a center pawn that is hard to defend is not a great prospect.
There is so much rampant cheating on that website I'm surprised you haven't had more losses and rating refunds. Maybe you're just beating the cheaters!
I care because gen ai takes a lot of resources, power and water from local communities, and it generates images based on art taken from human artists with no compensation for using their art to train their machines. Plus, it often looks kind of bad. It has a weird quality to it. There are thumbnail artists that online people can use that often make better images more appropriate for the video. And support artists directly rather than the subsidized hidden cost of all the gen ai stuff
It's just my opinion but I prefer the first episodes from this series as I can relate much more. At this level I have a really hard time following. This is still entertaining though.
Seriously? He's an independent creator. It's a resource that can help indie channels out. I'd complain if large companies did this, but a guy running his own chess channel, there's no problem here.
Mr. Rosen! I’ve gone from 1000 to 1700 since I’ve started watching your videos! You are the man!
Impressive!
When did you start watching him?
Started religiously watching the speed run in July
he is the guy!
I've gone from 950 to 950. 😥
This episode is quintessential Eric Rosen:

Instead of the photo we got a whole hour watching the goat
The clipart hedgehog walking across the screen had me laughing so hard people around me were, like, "How are you finding chess so hilarious?" and I didn't know what to say 🦔🤣
These episodes are getting super interesting considering the rating level, also love the frequency of the episodes lately!~ ❤️
Seriously! My first thought when I saw another video
Actually impressive how little you lost on the way up to this rating. So entertaining to watch!👏🏽👏🏽
For me it’s “oh yes my sleep schedule” Eric’s soothing voice helps me sleep
I better go to bed; I halucinated that an actual hedgehog walked across the screen.
Lets gooo. Last couple episodes have been awesome, cant wait for the gambits speedrun
Oh no my sleep schedule.
Hi honey it’s mom, go to bed you have a test tomorrow love you mwa
Oh no my original comment
Oh no this same comment on every video
Same but at 3am
@@thetree1994oh no my cringe

Greatest chess series on yt
Eric is such a humble and mellow guy. It makes learning much easier because we are not contending with a huge ego.
Love the hedgehog, so interesting to see what you do with it, your games are so instructive.
I love your chess content as it never fails to educate and delight in equal measure. A cup of mango lychee grean tea ready, let's go 😊
Love the speedrun videos! Happy November to you too!
Awesome as always, congrats Eric the King!
That final endgame was very well played, especially considering the clock situation.
I got terrified when the hedgehog walked across the screen. So I obeyed the title of the video.
Thanks Eric! I appreciate every video!
2:50 "Maybe rE8" This is a move I would never consider, because not only is the file not open with both pawns alive, but is almost fully occupied.
2000+ speedrun is super good... Love it
Well played today and good lessons on defending against dubious but dangerous attacks!

Anyone else here to ask about the critter that looked way more like an albino possum than a hedgehog?
Whatever double macha means, playing Makkel something something. Eric getting loose in the hoody season. Go Eric.
Usually I am sitting here, hoping, that a new video will be released soon. No I am here, with 3 clips unseen. What a day :)
Wow, almost one episode per day, Eric must be having so much fun now that he gets to play the best players at 2200+ x)
Opponents now tend to hold their own in opening and middle. Eric's quality in end game still markedly stronger.
22:34 that name i believe is just a Hungarian for an ancient scientist (Ptolemy in English), and i remember him as a geocentrist from school! (yes with my >90% absence its pretty crazy to remember the random stuff)

Can you play the urosov gambit pls
When the opponent makes the move at 5:47, why not play pawn h6 as defense? Preventing the opponents pawn from kicking the knight?
He explains it during the analysis of the game
Ya thanks saw it! Turned out to be the best engine move lol!
Really enjoyable and instructive episode you seem to need more patients as the rating level increases
Yay!!! One more! Thanks Eric!
These higher rated games have been good. Very enjoyable.
Yay. Happy hoody season to you.
For the dutchies, did Eric play the first game against Tex de Wit? :)
Hedgehog for the win ;-)
Eric’s favourite weapon: Getting squished in the Sicilian
20:00 a hedgehog setup, goddamnit
Is Eric's Hedgehog-Opening the natural counter to Anna's Cow-Opening?
All these ambulances and eric asking himself if one of these ambulances is for him.
at 30:21 how come a pawn just doesn't take his knight??
Then the king takes his bishop.
So it's either knight for bishop, or pawn for pawn.
Doubling up your pawns to save a center pawn that is hard to defend is not a great prospect.
I have that same hoodie. GGs
Need a gambit only speedrun next 🙂
I think Vampire Chicken’s hedgehog got loose and walked across the screen!
There's so many ambulances outside... but not for me!
Since your taking suggestions on openings, you should play the cow.
Love the series and I know you have to get paid, but the ads on this video were out of control compared to all the previous episodes.
I think it means twice the amount of macha.
Now that it's November, please don't shave!
Its amazing how you are at 2250 and your only loss is still due to a mouse slip
the grand speedrun
You should have transposed from the hedgehog into the hippo!
There is so much rampant cheating on that website I'm surprised you haven't had more losses and rating refunds. Maybe you're just beating the cheaters!
Seasons don't fear the Hedgehog,
Nor the French nor the Caro-Kann.
Oh no my queen! Has never been on b8 or a8 lol
I think Ive mastered the hibernating bishop strategy.
Your first opponent's name translates from Dutch as something like "easy score" or "nice score".
Getting tougher now
It’s also beard season Eric.
Wohooo!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Wait a minute. You have played another speedrun account 😆. Your last opponent
Uh oh. I haven’t finished watching the last one 😂
someone called an ambulance but not for eric
It's rare that a 2250 would play Qxb2 in the second game.
Yes, they usually do that in the 3rd game.
OK...but is it *beard* season? (the answer is yes, btw).
The need for more detailed explanations in the opening becomes less and less the higher rated you go.
Please do not use AI images for your channel. I'm a longtime subscriber who is deeply disappointed by your recent use of generative AI
HEYYY ERIC..... hi :)
Something something, woman, from the Netherlands, this is too ez
To get the marocsee setup
You are incredibly good at this
Have sex no

next series, beginner to GM slowrun.
I don't think you should use genAI for your thumbnails honestly
Honest question. Why do you care?
AI generated thumbnails look like trash imo
Rosen is the one on the left
I care because gen ai takes a lot of resources, power and water from local communities, and it generates images based on art taken from human artists with no compensation for using their art to train their machines.
Plus, it often looks kind of bad. It has a weird quality to it.

I agree. The AI art is as bland as it gets.
It's just my opinion but I prefer the first episodes from this series as I can relate much more. At this level I have a really hard time following. This is still entertaining though.
AI thumbnail much?

I love a hedgehog. On toast, usually. No - only joking.
It often appears in the Symmetrical English, I've noticed. Or a Modern Defence.
Sir sir plz it is a humble request just play the move and dont explain too much bcz it get frustrating that WHEN IS ERIC GONNAAA MOVEEE PLZZ
Oh yeah! I saw this movie. Denzel plays the role of Joe Biden, the captain is Trump, and Cob is Mike Pence.
please stop using ai generated images in the thumbnail. extremely disappointing :/
A cute lil hedgehog photoshop would have been so cool. Too bad Eric Rosen isn't cool. :(
Seriously? He's an independent creator. It's a resource that can help indie channels out. I'd complain if large companies did this, but a guy running his own chess channel, there's no problem here.
What’s the problem with that lol?
