- Welcome to my channel where I share my simple and peaceful cottage lifestyle with a big focus on gratitude.
It's a brand new year! And to get started, I made myself an easy DIY hanging clothing rack with driftwood and plant hooks for my bedroom. It was a cheap project costing less than $4, but I love this new little rack in the cottage.
The goal of this easy DIY home project was to give myself a spot to hang five "goal outfits" for each week. I'm challenging myself to refind my style, which I kinda lost the last few years.
I also took a trip to a veeeeery beautiful spot here in the Hudson Valley : )

Hey. I found your channel by accident about a month ago, & I’m really glad I did! I find you to be such a brave, inspiring & lovely woman. I admire the way you’re living your life, & often think if I could go back I would want to do the same. Todays video touched a nerve, you talking about your clothes & how you don’t wear things you used to love. I think I have those thought literally every day! Now at 63, married, no children I’m not sure I recognize who I am at times, especially my clothing! I’ve always loved beautiful clothes, & in my younger years I wouldn’t leave the house unless I was head to toe put together! Blazers, long skirts & dresses, boots, hats, all things “boho”. I came out of work 12 yrs ago, & now I live in comfort clothing, especially since I don’t go out much at all. Life is short, wear your beautiful clothes & do all the things you dream of doing! I too, can completely relate to this. Since I was even a child, I loved putting little outfits together. Born in 1962, I was exposed and inspired by so many fashion styles, especially Stevie Nicks gypsy bohemian fashion. Anything flowing and feminine with floral prints! At nearly 62 years (young at heart), I am still dressing in beautiful boho dresses because it's what makes me feel comfortable in my own skin. Always be true to yourself. I think as we age as women, we tend to lose the essence of who we are. We, little by little give up on ourselves and settle into a neutral comfort zone. What I am realizing is that we need to actually fight for what brings us joy and simple pleasures. It's easy to let our selves go over time, especially when life throws us curve balls and unexpected things. So to all you lovely ladies out there, have a beautiful blessed day!
The view from your hike was glorious! I never liked marigolds either, until I had a little chick that got sick and gave her turmeric with other supplements to help her get better. She was a white chicken and the turmeric stained her feathers, so I named her Marigold. When she died, I planted marigolds and they grew like crazy. Now every year, marigolds🏵 must be part of my garden. ❤️🐔

I always love your boho design experiences. They are my favorite videos. I get excited and do the same thing, regarding starting a project in the wrong clothing, and then I have to change clothes. And of course what is a Little Boho Cottage video without adorable little Charlie. You are brave. My stomach did a little flip flop when you were on the edge of the cliff:) You're always beautiful.

Love the coat ❤ and yes the Marigolds from seed will do just fine ! You may get other colors than the yellow ,oranges and reds , plant them near your tomatoes too 😊

The lovely dresses on the driftwood hanger looked beautiful I was brought up to keep 'best ' clothes which didn't get worn very often now I try to wear what makes me feel good even if it means silk and feathers in the garden ! The view from the mountain was wonderful and a great way to start the new year lets hope it's a good one for us all 😊❤
Kate, I know what you are saying about your clothes! I can totally relate. I used to have a ‘style’ unique to me, but now I’m not sure what it is at this time of my life. So, I have been experimenting to see what exactly is my personal vibe. Having this quirky, creative side to me can make settling on one ‘style’ difficult. But it’s also a lot of fun figuring it out along the way. One moment, it’s boho, the next it’s beach, and so on…

🤗 Oh, I hope you try starting some of those seeds inside on your windowsill this winter - February or March would be a great time to see fresh green leaves sprouting into action, readying themselves for transplanting back into the garden!!! 🌼🌞

@@littlebohocottage I recommend that you splurge a little and buy some hyacinths in pots in February (I've found them cheapest at Trader Joe's). The scent and color are like a promise of Spring when the world is still pretty dark and cold. When they're finished blooming, I just stick the bulbs in the ground (among the ivy on the edge of our yard). Over the years that I did that at our old house, most likely got eaten by squirrels, but some bloomed and in the spring, I'd get happily surprised by a few hyacinths appearing.
I wanted to say that you are even happier than the first time I saw you here. Stay your happy self!!! I pour our brightness and I bet a million bucks that when your not present people feel a void!!! You have encouraged me to choose happiness even when the world wants to be miserable!!!

Your clothing hanger looks great, maybe you can make homemade tassels to make it more Boho style, add them at the end on each side and let them hang with the same rope you used, that will be super cute in my opinion 😊

I have had many more flowers since putting uo bird houses. The birds tend to go to my other flowers and poop out the seeds in my flower gardens bringing me lots of great surprise flowers. It always amazes me how I can fuss over getting a flower to grow, but bird droppings with flowers seeds in them grow amazingly just as nature intended. I hope you got your snow. I love walking at night on a full moon hearing the snow crunch and the beautiful silence it creates.

Maybe it's the New year but I have been feeling the same about fixing myself up more. For the last few years I just haven't been putting that effort into my looks. Lately I have been trying to. Love the idea of setting up the outfits ahead of time. Might have to steal that idea, right down the the driftwood. ❤

Marigolds are great to plant around tomatoes. Start them in the window in spring as well as some tomatoes and plant them together in your beds. You will have fewer bugs. They are considered companion plants.

Love the 'considering rack'! I forget items of clothing, shoes, and jewelry, and then it feels like a brand-new discovery! Your Charlie is so sweet. Our little dogs are now "NOT happy" as we are starting into a snow shower cycle and it is cold and they are just not having it!

Beautiful video. What a coincidence as I was rethinking my style as well. I will change it up some, but I still love my boho dresses. I live in Florida in the winter and need cool, comfy and lightweight. I’m 65 now and a retired nurse and my thought is I can wear what I please. That means cool, lightweight clothing (modest). I really love the clothes hanger. It reminds me of something you would see in an Italian or French country home. May 2024 be a phenomenal year for you. I am still working on my husband to rescue a senior chihuahua 😁

I found Monkey Hooks avoid big holes like molly screws make. You push a Monkey Hook in the drywall with your hand and it only makes a small hole. I love your white dress and the black sweater with stars!
When thinking of losing weight I like the way you think about it and that is “finding yourself again.” I’m stealing that mindset because this year I’m going to find myself too!❤️
For the hanging stick, that’s cute but I think a straiter, stronger stick would look better. Great idea to hang a couple outfits you want to wear in the future… the clothes items which only require a few less pounds. I’m going to do that as my motivation. 👍🏻🙌

So easy to gain weight during our long dark Ak. winters so I hear you. Every since covid I cant stand to wear anything but soft clothing. I gained my most weight when I wear lose fitting clothes all winter, so I use to wear jeans everyday and not change until bedtime and that heloed my weight gain alot. Now when I put jeans on they last maybe 2 hours against my skin😅 But because I also deal with depression I make sure I get dressed everyday and put a little makeup on. I can never get enough of Charlie so thank you ❤ I love that you see the world with all its beauty.❤

You can eat the Marigold flowers in salads, soups, and stews. Also, you can make tea or an herbal tea with them.
I love that atomic or sunburst clock in the background. Love to collect midcentury.
I've discovered that studs are usually one or two set distances apart depending whether walls, ceilings etc. Its worth finding out because that will make it easier to hang things :) Rubber bands will help hold things separate too. Your walk and mountain, wow! Such incredible beauty.

I'm right there with you ladies. I'll be 70 in April and for the past couple of years have found my silly concerns about what others think have finally given way. I would wear more boho dresses but it seems the ones I like are too pricey or have no pockets, which is probably worse than the price tag. 😂 Tight purse strings aside, the lovely part of retirement is discovering it's not just ok to follow your own needs and wants, it's fabulous!

Marigolds were never really my favorite flower also. However this year I strung the flowers into garlands. I strung them all over my home. And also sold some at farmers market. They look beautiful!
The mountaintop view reminds me of some of the glorious views in the Lord of the Ring movies (filmed in New Zealand). Your views just opened me right up and filled me with hope.
Watching you create your decorative/useful (very pretty) clothes rack is inspiring me to do something I planned to do almost 2 years ago when we downsized into this much smaller house -- to find a way to hang the scarves I've woven and knit so that they form a curtain or a wall hanging but also make my scarves more accessible so I use them more. I just have to figure out the right place and the right method.

I've been following you since you first posted from the original Little Boho Cottage because there is something so honest and charming about your vlogs. I first read this particular post shortly after you put it on line this morning and it's been rolling around in the back of my mind all day. So, here I am some hours later because I need to tell you what conclusion I've arrived at about your clothing style. Have you considered that after this extended time span of dressing for your comfort and the occasion of the moment, you have arrived at your Authentic Self? So many seem to be seeking what you may already found. Of course, you can add, subtract or change altogether..... It's just my thought and because you seemed to be putting you style in a dim light, I want to give you a little brighter perspective. Your style is wonderful, free flowing and relaxed and it just suits you so well. {I have to admit, though, the red coat in the garden was a bit off. It's a great coat just not a great garden coat}❤ 😊❤
I am so in sync with you on dressing up. I wore a more tailored 50’s style dress yesterday. I got tons of compliments. Was I as comfortable as I had been? Nope but that was more about the extra weight than the clothes. I am going to try and be dressier at least 3 work days a week. It should keep me on my healthier goals. I have so many cute things I need to drop 10-20 lbs to fit again.

Once again , I couldn't wait until your next video, this brand new year! I live in Florida now with my daughter. I miss Ohio so much as I had the woods in front & in the back of my home. I would take great strolls through the woods & discover what was in front of me. Those days are gone as I live nowhere near woods here. I am so happy to watch you, & how you live. So glad you've discovered marigolds. I love them. My mom always had borders of them, and their fragrance, altho strong, is a warm and welcome reminder of my childhood. The seeds start so easily too. Often planted them with my 2nd grade students to sprout, care for, and finally send home as Mother's Day presents. Enjoy! By the way, your mountaintop video was amazing, but my old bones hurt to see you sitting on that cold stone. 😜
You might want to look for calendula seeds or plants in the spring. They are in the marigold family but a bit prettier flower and can be used in tea and body oils, etc….many uses. 😊🙏

I planted more marigolds last year and fell in love with them, I never really cared much for them. But they got soooo big, flowered all year long, and I found a few different colors so I will be planting more this year,

I am SO hoping we get a good snow this weekend! so close to the coast we can be hit or miss even though we're close to you. I love the rack- I hang especially pretty pieces outside the closet to look at, it's easier to enjoy the look than when I am wearing it haha.

Your home is so cute and cozy! I too have nice clothes in garmet bags in the back closet. Hubby is supposed to be redo-ing the walls, floors and lowering the clothes bar as i cant reach it to get clothes down!😂 I keep thinking i should be wearing some of those clothes at least to church. Wow! Those stairs, those cliffs! Breath-taking but scary! (For me)

You can always start them in paper Dixie cups then plant in the ground in spring
