Thank you for doing these behind the scenes videos. I would love to see and hear more from different members of the teams, like footage of motion-capturing the aerial silks or watching the sound designers getting their different sounds.
This DLC is awesome, and I'm not used to pander CA. On the main campaign map, the new gameplay totally reinvents the traditional "conquer and settle" or "raze everything" Total War campaign mechanics. You have to focus on your homeland and make clever diplomatic choices. Don't conquer too far away, make valuable allies, let Orcs and Chaos destroy your enemies, then help your Allies vs. them, etc. "Realpolitik" 101. The Wood Elves campaign itself is also quite refreshing and different. It's a real challenge, especially at start. The units are effective but not overpowered (unlike Chaos). Their armies require some strategic skills, not like a mad rush (orcs, undead) or a "fortress position" strat (dwarves, empire). If you like stealth and mobility, they're nice. Graphically beautiful + that "savage" look. My favorites are the War Dancers and the Treeman. I won't spoil no more, but It's definitely worth the price.
Well, you could always play clever with all the races (though turtling was generally more effective with the dwarves, but got boring pretty quickly), but it's nice to see a faction designed for it. It really gives off the feeling that the WE's greatest asset is their cunning, and arrogance their greatest weakness (if you relax for one moment, your army's going to suffer).
That's on the tactical level (battles) but I also agree. Very offensive light infantry, deadly archers, but a lack of armor and toughness that makes them unpredictable. For example, the War Dancers make deadly strikes but get slaughtered if they stay too long. They don't flee, so they always take heavy losses, but they worth it. I'm sure the WE can do well against all Armies, but some might be very difficult, like the heavily armored dwarves and chaos or the heavy bretonnian cavalry (that I wisely avoided or allied with during my main campaign) but then, a lot of WE units have high armor piercing stats. Just don't let thewalking tanks come too close. I bet It's quite different with Argwylon, with more huge monsters (Treemen, Great Eagles, Dragons and Lemurs) available. I started a campaign with Durthu by spamming Dryads! That's another positive point for the DLC's diversity.
Knight of Gascogne I'd say that Bretonnia is the armored faction that WE are most prepared to take on, actually. All their higher-tier infantry that have armor-piercing have anti-large to go with it. My main problem in the campaign was the dwarves, since they have a defensive style to go with their heavy artillery. Made it more difficult to draw them into a trap when they were shooting faster than they could waddle. And yeah, I'm hoping for that sub-faction trend to continue. It adds a good deal of replay value.
Ah! Those damn' hairy midgets xD I have the same problem with them playing Argwylon. They make firewood with my dryads. As the WE (main and special campaigns finished) It's easier because of the armor piercing elite archers but nonetheless I preferred to ally w/ them even vs humans. WE are allied w/ Angrund at start and I suggest to keep the best relations w them, but playing Argwylon, you're at war w Karak Norn and that doesn't help. Maybe high tier units like Treemen and Lemur will be more efficient. Eagles will help w the artillery... later. Also, you're right, Bretonnians are a joke right now, but IMO that's due to the silly AI spamming inefficient units + their lack of diversity, until the FLC comes out in february (I hope!).
Knight of Gascogne Don't bet too much on it. The Bretonnian roster is about 4 or 5 units away from catching up to the tabletop. Apparently, it was poorly supported there.
Been playing TW since Med 1, and I must admit from a design and animations standpoint the Wood Elves is your best work yet. They look and feel spectacular. Honestly the sheer amount of stunning animations put into this from the eagle to the treemen to the basic melee attack of the simple spearmen is great. Well done to everyone involved.
Really love all the effort you guys put into the Wood elves :) Also, I will definately look forward to seeing the Lizardmen in the future. Maybe something where they are besieged from all sides in Lustria, and in the end have to find gates to the Southern colonies they have in the old world in order to help against the Skaven? Maybe throw in the Amazons as allies/mercenaries for them?
the great book of grudges more bad news m8 data mine is outdated meaning it will take longer but who knows? maybe we get them on january but thats a very very low chance
I hope you make more videos like this in the future, is good to see the employees talking about their work and how they do it. It really connects CA with the players.
this is honestly one of my favorite games of all time!! Great work on the wood elves im in love with and i cant wait to see the amazing work you do on the other races!!
More like Brettonia, Skaven=> Dark Lands map expansion with Chaos Dwarves and Ogre Kingdoms=> GW stops being a//holes about Dreadfleet intellectual property rights and allows CA to do their job=> naval combat expansion and High Elves=> other continents expansion with Tomb Kings, High Elves, Lizardmen.
I know most people talk crap because there not getting what they want in total war Warhammer but I would like to say your doing a great job and keep up the great work
Real history: see: Aelvaeones, Elouaiones, Elvaiones, Aelvaeones, etc. "Elves" were ancient human tribes of Indo-Europeans - mostly Germanic and Nordic. Because of color of hair and eyes, Nordics were called 'light elves' (Ljósálfar), while Germanic/Gauls were 'dark' elves (Dökkálfar) - also wood elves, river elves, etc. see: Elbe River,. et al. see: Proto-indo-european etymology dictionaries. Adel, athel, Albus, Alfheim, Ynglinga saga, Saga of Thorstein, King Alf, Elfsyssel, et al.
you guys are doing an AMAZING job honestly i have the same feeling was when i was playing tabletop , the armies respect that , people didnt understood how to play wood elves yet , because they try them as a regular faction and try to form battle lines , which they arent designed for ! so breat job guys once again , the feels are here fore sure !
There is so much here that I feel like they could work on warhammer for decades. I also like how when they add things it isn't "oh yeah well wood elves now." Nope, when they add things it is a new revolution to the game.
FabianTheCownip *''That use to.''* Rome 1 and Medieval 2 defiantly uphold that tile. But with warhammer (and for sometime now); they've gone completely corporatists. $16 for a single race that should of been in the game to begin with. The Call of Warhammer modders did far more than CA did for free.
The call of warhammer mod has more of basically everything in it. More races, more units, more cities, more features etc. They even have monstrous units and wizards modded on basically an ancient game without all of these things. With no budget. Although it is buggy, I would say that although I like total war: warhammer, the call of warhammer medieval mod is the greater accomplishment.
The reason the Beastmen DLC and the Wood Elves DLC have low scores in steam is because you don't let us play as other factions in the mini-campaign. We wouldve loved to play as Todbringer Call of the Beastmen mini-campaign. And we wouldve loved to have played as Mousillon on the Season of Revelations mini-campaign. Next race DLC, do not just include stuff that we can use in custom battle. Allow us to also unlock a faction in the grand campaign. I would love to play as Middenland or Mousillon in the Grand Campaign. Forces me to play your mini-campaign to get them. And in the end you improve the Main Campaign by adding 2 new sub-factions. Hope your next lord pack adresses the fact that Chaos and the Beastmen are very weak. Add Throgg the Troll King as a new Chaos horde somewhere in Troll Country and add Taurox the Brass Bull somewhere in Talabecland. Making these 2 your next lord pack will allow you to complete the Beastmen Roster and complete the Chaos roster. Leaving the Daemons for your future expansions. Also please make Mousillon and Middenland playable. Even modders can do that, so i don't think its impossible for you guys!
4:56 the two wardancers moving what looks like to be one unit, could be a tester for the twilight sisters. Instantly what I thought after seeing that section of the video
guys stop ask for naggaroth , ulthuan and lustria . they are three continents ! (plus an ocean) right now wait for brettonia in february. (same for skaven [underworld?] , demons of chaos , khemri [open another possible continent : the southlands] , chaos dwarf and ogre kingdoms [the dark lands. ... divide the old world and the southlands from the cathay empire and the kingdom of inds ] , and the four chaos gods horde. not to mention other part of lands like the northern wastes , also naval battles and better siege battles , or other factions important or more important :kislev, estalia, tilea city states, the electour counts ecc. ......)
Amazing insight into the hard work from the Total War team, keep it up ladies and gentlemen, your doing a terrific job ;) ps any spare computer lying around lol to enhance my gaming experience ;)
Ian Bailey Well, I suppose you might get some in this game. There's a faction of lizard men who live south of the tomb kings, and the tomb kings have been verified for this game. However, even if said lizard men do get added, they will probably not be playable and have an incomplete roster at best. I guess there are always mods though. :P
The dedication for this game is great from the devs, and amazing attention to detail... even murdering trees to get the right kinda sound and details on place. No but great work with this, impressive animation, the tree speak is great I found it amazing tbh, and hope you keep doing these other languages into the game. I personally love that. I would have loved if the elven spoke elvish and the dwarfs spoke their language but I accept the compromise where everything human esque/not monster speak english sort of with some exceptions. Great dlc.
Well, if you HAVE to follow Paradox's example and continue building the game gradually with DLC, go ahead. Time will tell how your game will stand. Keep in mind though, that I'd rather spend my limited money buying their DLC than yours - and I'm not the only one. I've said it before, this is the first Total War title I didn't buy on release and do not intend to buy until years from now, when it's finished and on discount.
+lonekanone1 What's the point of you replying to someone who seems to have his mind made up and his arguments well thought out? See how the "what's the point" logic works out?
Does anybody else think that it would be super cool if they aloud you to corrupt generals say to chaos and show he gradually turns into a chaos warrior or they get turned into a vampire, or is it just me
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CA, When you include skaven, don't just give them bases and a special underground/efficient travel mechanic. You should add an entire underground map for dwarves, orcs/goblins, and skaven. FAR smaller than even the release map, but still present. Perhaps allow other races to get it, but include something! Perhaps this would be too difficult/complex to implement, but it's certainly possible.
Great job guys, I don't have time to play the game since I am currently in grad school, however, I still bought the wood elves DLC to reward your hard efforts.
The game is certainly much more entertaining to play now than it was at release. The animations are great, but I do feel like there are a lot of odd gaps between individual animations which jar me sometimes. A war dancer will do a beautiful fluid pirouette but then stop stock still before the next move, which spoils the overall affect a little. Same goes for other units like the forest dragons etc. Anyway I'm no animator and just nit picking :)
I think its common to a lot of games- but for some reason I feel like it's more obvious in TW:WH? Another issue is units spinning on the spot- which for big units like the Aracnarok and the Dragons is pretty obvious. Maybe in future releases they might address it :)
Fabulous. I hate to drag up old History but I must. The difference here in this game and it's Dev videos compared to Rome 2 is staggering. I'm just glad CA are back on form with this game and I can't wait for the Tomb Kings. Keep up the good work.
It felt like the end of the video is describing how games have changed. It sounds as if they are saying they released a game that could have been made better if they waited to released. I know the days of releasing complete games are gone for PC games but a guy can dream cant he.
I think this DLC was special , I've been a fan since day one. Keep bringing DLC factions with this complexity .... Expect my money with each release. But please do not forget the original factions I strongly feel that with every DLC should come more ROR for empire and new units to chaos , chaos I am still yet to see win a multiplayer they are unbalanced in my option at the moment. For me the next big step it an army painter and maybe a avatar like multiplayer , building your own army and making one general your own. Really getting into the feel . These are YOUR men. I know I'm ranting now and I don't know if comments like this are read by the producers but please introduce a reload ammunition system as it would be amazing , some Heros having the ability or special no attack carts providing extra ammunition to really lengthen out matches and take advantage of the size of the maps. Last thing you should choose a faction before the match , so if you pick a faction your opposition does not just pick the counter. Maybe as you level up your leader you unlock say new skins for your army ect just an idea
You should make a video about the voice actors! I wanna know how you learned the language of Chaos to voice the Beastmen, and i wanna finally see who the hell is the old man advisor in real life!
I'm hoping that he let slip something that will be added to with the old world edition, some more units for existing factions like the aracknarok mount, middenheim and mousillon as minor factions for campaign and some major updates the community wants to see. But as I said I'm hoping.
I found the forest dragons to be a little bit underwhelming but the Treemen are amazing. Also,Durthu getting beat by a goblin? I killed both Sarthorael and Archaon in the same battle with him.And 2 giants. And a Hellcannon.
I personally favor High Elves, prob coz i use them for table top warhammer, but I'm genuinely optimistic about Ulthuan or New World as the next TW Warhammer sequel game to be released in its series.
For our next DLC, we're going to record the actual sounds of rats being stomped on.
Or have a man being eaten alive by rats, that would rock.
please not ...
PETA enrage incoming...
It's strange silence about death sounds of orcs and dwarfs in the base game >_>
Sound provided by Jake Paul
Cutting down trees to create the wood elves. That's a paddlin'.
It is funny though. You have to admit.
yep, they should have left that bit out of video.
They're only trying to lure the wood elves out to have an interview
wood elves wouldn't approve.
+Enoch Tong some risky interviews
You killed trees to make a wood elf army? Heresy!
thats what I was thinking.
more tree racism from CA
thunder2.0 yep
I was cracking up when they said that!
They were sacrificed for the greater good.
Not gonna lie the DLC work is getting amazing.
Makes you almost wish for your favorite faction to come late, so it'll have the most awesome mechanics. :P
Thank you for doing these behind the scenes videos. I would love to see and hear more from different members of the teams, like footage of motion-capturing the aerial silks or watching the sound designers getting their different sounds.

More DLC now!
I would LOVE a one hour long documentary of how you made the game !!
"We wanted them to be more readable at a distance"
Y'know, the exact thing that Dryads aren't supposed to be.
Really love all the effort you guys put into the Wood elves :)
Also, I will definately look forward to seeing the Lizardmen in the future. Not going to lie, you guys did a wonderful job with this dlc
this is the most fun I've had with TW since medieval 1. please keep this formula going, I haven't been this happy with a game franchise in forever.
Can you show us bretonia
Total War soon tm
that moment when they reply D:
i not going to buy the game untile bretonia is out! i more for the human medieval style, not the imperium
Well there are Bretonnia faction Unlocker and unit mods for the game already so you could play them till the Expansion comes out.
i think they will be out in february
2:15 Hugh Mungus? Is that sexual harrasment?
She can sexual harras me any day
too soon
hugh mungus? what?

Well, elves, I'll see you in a little over a week...
waiting for skaven :P
Based off Datamined info that has proven correct thusfar, Skaven are the 10th paid DLC. Wood Elves were the 5th.
Dr Vanillastein datamined is outdated now so we dont know
Dr Vanillastein thats some serious grudging :(
You will have to wait for awhile.
the great book of grudges more bad news m8 data mine is outdated meaning it will take longer but who knows? maybe we get them on january but thats a very very low chance
I hope you make more videos like this in the future, is good to see the employees talking about their work and how they do it. It really connects CA with the players.
this is honestly one of my favorite games of all time!! Great work on the wood elves im in love with and i cant wait to see the amazing work you do on the other races!!
I hope Khemri´s are next. I love them ! And btw : the wood elves are great! Very creative playstyle !
I doubt it, they surely put Skaven next. Or deamons of chaos.
If only the land of the dead could rise in next DLC
More like Brettonia, Skaven=> Dark Lands map expansion with Chaos Dwarves and Ogre Kingdoms=> GW stops being a//holes about Dreadfleet intellectual property rights and allows CA to do their job=> naval combat expansion and High Elves=> other continents expansion with Tomb Kings, High Elves, Lizardmen.
Chances are very good that Tomb Kings are actually next. If we can believe the russian leaks which have proven 100% accurate about TW:WH until now.
DontKnow9000
except that they're across a sea from current map.
total war warhammer 2 wood elves dlc brought me here.
News regarding the DLC: twitter.com/totalwar/status/1317042608976388096
Great job CA!
Because of color of hair and eyes, Nordics were called 'light elves' (Ljósálfar), while Germanic/Gauls were 'dark' elves (Dökkálfar) - also wood elves, river elves, etc.

the girl at 1:23 takes a massive terrified breath at the start before she talks, so cute
Stelios the greek God of game development!
That little cinematic with the Wardancers was nice.
Creative assembly has only gotten better over the years and im more excited for the future now than ever before. Keep it up guys!
Really loving the wood elves, great work :)
This company needs many rewards
The irony of murdering trees just to get the sound for a wood elf unit.
Amazing work! Love the Wood Elves DLC and the whole game in general. Keep up the good work!

High elves or riot...ehm...High elves or order?...God damn it. I'm waiting for the Asur.
Dark elves kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CommanderTano CT Fair enough, and true.
any possibility that there will come a DLC on the cult of Ulric? :)
4:55 Naestra & Arahan, the Sisters of Twilight.
unfortunately not. Naestra has black, Arahan white hair. Those elves at 4:55 are "just" wardancers
Allow this man to have dream
Granted
This came, when all its DLC's are included will cost like $160+. Honestly some companies could of done more for 40 dollars.
And yet there isn't a single company that can do RTS as good as CA.
Ok, where's that game then? I would love playing it.
FlyingBison It's a mod for Medieval II Total War Kingdoms, but probably not comparable this game though. This one is better as such.
When can we get Santa Claus as LL for Warrior of Chaos?
Upvote if you want to see more Ms. Gymer. Doing anything really.
one of the better races so far, thank you!
I bet that Senoir sund designer got the moustache for this job. Nothing spells "senior" like a moustache.
Next behind the scenes: a rare insight into our council of 13 collaboration.
Just keep up the good work guys! This is the best game you've made so far!
Still waiting for the High Elves and the Dark Elves. For me it would be magical, like Light against Darkness.
Cut down trees in real life to make virtual tree man, that's pretty cool actually
That tree will forever live on in game!
really looking forward to your eventual take on dark elves in the future :D
Did I hear correctly? Are we getting Arachnaroks as mounts for the Goblin Great Shaman? Forest Goblin Spider shrine?
He was talking about their TT matches, where Arachnorok is a mount option for goblin great shamans
Next:
Total War: game of thrones
Total War: Lord of the rings
Total war: ww1
Total war: ww2
Thanks!

That's my problem with Napoleon Total War. Why can't I play as the Ottomans!?
4:56 the two wardancers moving what looks like to be one unit, could be a tester for the twilight sisters. Instantly what I thought after seeing that section of the video
guys stop ask for naggaroth , ulthuan and lustria .
they are three continents ! (plus an ocean)
right now wait for brettonia in february.

Guys, when you interview someone please put back light to separate the person from background.
rip the tree that died for the tree units
So, you cut down trees to make the sounds of the treekin... The irony is rich.
Great DLC ! I also like that "behind the scene" format, it's really interesting.
i thought this was the new dlc
Amazing insight into the hard work from the Total War team, keep it up ladies and gentlemen, your doing a terrific job ;) ps any spare computer lying around lol to enhance my gaming experience ;)
u guys are doing great on this game keep it up
I was really hoping the spell singers wouldn't have the troll doll hair. But they did. And it makes it hard to take them seriously.
That's nice, now get started on Bretonnia, I want my knights dang it all.
Lizard men wont be this probably.
February
Because there on a different continent
Sevect gotta wait for at least a year or 2 sadly but dont worry i may wait longer i want chaos dwarfs

Whats the point in posting that below a behind the scene video of a game you dont play?
Oh piss off, do you have any idea how much it costs to create games, the people making these end up only earning as much as me in my factory job.
+lonekanone1 What's the point of you replying to someone who seems to have his mind made up and his arguments well thought out? See how the "what's the point" logic works out?
Kalieb Jones exactly just a load of wankers.
I'd rather play Total War before any Paradox game... Swings and round-abouts...
I agree with everything Stelios said.
Can't wait till the next dlc and flc comes out.

Hey, cutting trees to animate and portray Wood Elves, furthermore a treeman? Well, I'm amazed you made it out of that "fun day in the woods" alive.
The DLC -are- getting better and better!
These guys love what they do.
0:09 Daryl from the walking dead works at CA?
"...We played the tabletop to get a better feeling of the faction; [...] We changed how they look in the tabletop"
whats annoying is that they know when the next dlc's are coming out and whos next and were all in the dark! damn wish i worked there XD
I wanna know how you learned the language of Chaos to voice the Beastmen, and i wanna finally see who the hell is the old man advisor in real life!
wait, shamans riding arachnaroks?? when does this come??
I'm hoping that he let slip something that will be added to with the old world edition, some more units for existing factions like the aracknarok mount, middenheim and mousillon as minor factions for campaign and some major updates the community wants to see. But as I said I'm hoping.
He said they were doing TT battles. It is not in game.
well if you ask enough they will sell you anything i guess.
+richard round Well, they've already got the Red Duke and Todbringer as semi-LL's, so I guess they're thinking about it.
well there is Goblin shaman covered in dwarf beards. You can find hem as leader of goblins in Age of reckoning.
Till today, i'm still playing total war warhammer, for mortal empires campaign,
Elyse a real elf, I wonder if she was a model for a unit
I found the forest dragons to be a little bit underwhelming but the Treemen are amazing. Also,Durthu getting beat by a goblin?
I killed both Sarthorael and Archaon in the same battle with him.And 2 giants. And a Hellcannon.
YES KLL TREES TO CREATE THE TREE HUGGING FACTION!!
This makes me very happy lol
Great work!
Still waiting for my skaven and lizard men. please hear my prayers.
Can you make a video showing what designing sound effects is like?
Thank you, CA, for giving me the opportunity to slaughter Elves.
"raising the bar of quality ($$) with every dlc"
The Beastman A.I suck!
I know its ridiculous, but I want Total war : Star Wars as next Sci fi title.
will the total war franchise have sale on steam during the Christmas?.
tomb kings, lizardmen are the ones Im waiting for. No matter how long it takes
I personally favor High Elves, prob coz i use them for table top warhammer, but I'm genuinely optimistic about Ulthuan or New World as the next TW Warhammer sequel game to be released in its series.
cut trees to make a wood elf sound?! am I the only one to find this odd?!
can you say what the next dlc will be? And do you bring the high and dark elves?
They actually play the tabletop!?
I'm just waiting for them to fix the lighting.
High Elves!
