      This statement is SOOO wrong. Death is an abstract construct; which, can not anything except to just simply happen. those who benefit from War are those who fill the power vacuum created by the turmoil. modern war is slightly more complicated since you now have a permeant war economy and production industry in America and a military complex so vast that no one could have ever imagined such an infrastructure existing simply for the off chance that we might fight a war every 15 years (which is healthy). for really, the American government does not rule the world, the American military does. doubt me? go and ask JFK what his thoughts are on this subject, or maybe his brother? every year we sell roughly between $250,000,000,000 and $500,000,000,000. that's about 1/6th of our yearly income of about 3.5 trillion dollars. the 2nnd most successful economy is china, and, they make, yearly only about 900 billion to, at most 1.1 trillion, in total. that is why America can, and does spend roughly $1,000,000,000,000 (1 trillion approx.) on our military. and china thinks that we OWE them money! Ha, what a joke. if they actually think we will EVER pay ANY of that back then, well they are far more retarded than I had imagined. for, we do not owe anything to the Chinese people, no, we only owe to the Chinese government, whom, I may remind, is our number 2 enemy under soviet Russia (its not a soviet anymore, but all the same people are still there with the same mentality of "down with the US of A!) so, all we need to do is to knock off the government and poof! there goes our debt. I mean no nation on Earth can actually defeat America. FOR ONLY AMERICANS CAN DEFEAT AMERICA by way of themselves. I bet you all fear our thermal nuclear warheads the most, correct? WELL, WRONG! fear, more than all else our SMALLPOX missiles. humanity eradicated smallpox from off the planet over a 100 years ago and thus, no one alive has any immunities to it. just one broken or fired smallpox missile and, no joke, every human could be dead within two to three years. for you see, we grew these new, super strains of smallpox in low earth orbit. strapped tot he outside of the shuttle, the cultures would be bombarded by the solar radiation, gamma wave and microwaves. however, such things only augment virus's strength, resiliency and pace of growth, and we have tens of thousands of missiles full of at least a gallon each; as do most 1st world nations. VX-poison gas is ice-cream compared to SMALLPOX. Nukes are for show, our smallpox supply is what truly is a weapon of mass destruction for it'll kill every human, not just the enemy, if it reaches the ocean currents.

    I always loved how the early TW games made a point to paint the wars as tragic and deadly even as you are intended to fight them. It's not just smacking around enemies, there's a small amount of anti-war thinking in the music direction and sound effects.

    Honestly I love the contrast between this song and the Shogun 2 counterpart. Not really in message as they kind of handle two different matters that apply to their realm of the world. It’s more of just the composition and instruments. Yet with the same singer and composer, you can still make out similarities.

The fact it was made for a game makes it that much better for me! Hopefully Musical pieces like this one get more popularity with people so that true talent can be more appreciated in the musical Industry and inspire more artists as well as make them successful! PS: I am not a musician or anything like that I just want people to be appreciated for their hard work and talent properly, since they put themselves out to share their passion with the world :)

    I love this song dude. Like in my moment of victory I'm left to think. It was fucked up that I looted and invaded Egypt just because the Pope said to, and he only said so because they're not Christian. It's fucked up that I exterminated the population and looted it for the most money and left it to revolt, but that's what got me the most profit. It's fucked up that I started wars with my neighbors just for more power, and that I recruited peasents for the explicit purpose of being cannon fodder and pushing the siege weapons... But I did it without hesitation.

      Veloziraptor111 Medieval 2 graphics already past the quality where graphics doesn't bother me anymore (especially for an RTT/RTS); I don't need more polygons to enjoy a game when they can invest their productivity somewhere else.
      One thing that I really liked was that when you upgraded armor in ME2 it affected the unit cosmetically.
      At least they are heavily patching Rome2 as we speak, so we'll see.

I was really hoping they'd go for Medieval 3 next, but now I fear what they might do with it. On the other hand, Medieval 2 + mods is probably as good as a Total War game is going to get gameplay wise. Now if they just took everything from that game and applied the fancy shmancy new gen graphics- I'd be happy with the result.

    Those who are arguing that the Crusades were brilliant, remember only the First Crusade and the Baltic Crusade were successful. The only good that game out of it was that the Crusader States was incredibly diverse. Tolerant to Arabs, Jews, and the various Christian sects. To be honest, it one of those rare moments in medieval history when there was a bright glimmer of tolerance and peace.

    • @TheTokkin
      @TheTokkin 9 років тому +33

      Andy Russell The Crusader states had virtually no Christian peasantry, so for them to be tolerant of nonchristians was a practical inevitability, not some high-minded choice.

    • @bishopoftrash7710
      @bishopoftrash7710 9 років тому +28

      TheTokkin Which allowed for diversity to flourish. I agree, the Crusader lords had little choice but to be tolerant. However, The Ibelin family as well the various Baldwin Kings (not the first two) proved to be far more open and tolerant because they grew up in such a diverse culture. Its why native crusaders were horrified when crusader armies arrived to help. the European crusaders were completely ignorant of how the middle east work.

    • @SamarTareen
      @SamarTareen 9 років тому +19

      Andy Russell Hmm...from what I've read in some articles, the crusaders massacred Muslims, Jews, and certain Christian sects (Syrian if I remember correctly) when they took Jerusalem in the first crusade. I can imagine maybe successor leaders/kings handling the situation better. But I guess all can agree that the massacre didn't make them popular with neither the locals, nor their neighbouring states.

    • @bishopoftrash7710
      @bishopoftrash7710 9 років тому +27

      Samar Tareen Surely you must have read articles about the massacre of Acre? Moreover, when Saladin conquered Jerusalem does who could not afford their freedom were sold into slavery. This act was considered chivalrous. Also incorrect about the Syrian sects. They resided in the Principality of Antioch. The Jeruslamite Christians were a mix of Catholics, Orthodox and lesser heretical sects. The crusaders were hardly popular with the "locals" nor the fatamid caliphate of Seljuk turks. However the turks and egyptians hated each more than they hated the crusaders. Namely because shia and sunni division. Plus Baldwin I was able to crush a Fatamid army with 300 knights. So the locals quietly submitted, in fact with their old lords gone many could renegotiation more favorable contracts with the new christian lords. There was significant social stratification that prevented outright rebellion. Ironically the shortage of European man powered forced the Crusader states to have a more complex relationship with its peasants and vassals. By Baldwin III many Arabs were far more comfortable working with Crusaders who far more lenient that either of the Sultans.

    Through our own greed and lust for oil, we foolishly hurt them. So they trained their children to avenge the perceived sleight against them. We responded by leveling their homeland. And now, beaten and bruised, they slay our innocent for petty revenge.
    As the old saying goes, "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind"

      Muslims wanted to take over the world. In 800's, they had infiltrated as far as France.
      In 11th century, Pope Urban decided to give them a taste of their own sword.

      The lyrics are truth, but, it is indeed out of place in a game where genocide is the only option you are allowed. It's quite the gut punch
      Instead of trying to understand and make peace with everyone, you kill everyone who doesn't share your beliefs. In the song the women is lamenting for the families of all the warriors you mercilessly slaughter and that you are blind to the truth that we are all one (and indeed we are all one yet we live as if divided because of different beliefs, desires, and values)

    • @Siegberg91

      there is truth in that but you could still play it in way were you only protect yourself and your alleys but its simpler to conquer just everybody and create peace under yourself in total war. It may even be harder when you try to keeps just the satus quo.

      Tyrany only ever ends in more tyranny, never peace.
      You conquer all your neighbors, one of your subjects assisted you and takes control of your kingdom, infighting ensues, the kingdom splits, and it begins all over again.

    I refuse to be ashamed of my humanity. And I see struggle and war as an unavoidable part of humanity.
    The Lion feels no shame upon consuming the cubs of the male he displaced upon conquering a pride. The Shrike feels no sense of self-loathing as it impales its prey upon a thorn bush. Humans are animals and we must be proud of what we are.
    I have no use for shame or guilt or regret, your dystopia is my utopia, your Hell is my Heaven. And it seems a purer place for being honest about what it is.

    You know, everyone is talking about war but no one is talking about the song. I think that this is an amazing song with a great voice and message. Just look at the lyrics.
    They are a perfect representation of the state of humankind.
    I think this is a great song although I would disagree with this part:
    "And the only thing worth fighting for In this world is love"
    There are tons of things that are worth fighting for more than love but other than that, it's a great song ^.^

      Great does not necessarily mean that the empire has to be huge itself.
      It has to influence culture, society, philosophy, science and many more aspects.
      And 2753 years of Roman history achieved exactly that.

      en example the british empire lasted 110 years , and the mongols lasted 160 years , the roman empire lasted 1200 years the most important thing is the roman empire did not conquer an empty lands like the mongol empire just huge empty forests trees with no people in it , the romans they were not looking for size they were looking for wealth and Densely populated areas take in concentration the roman empire was pretty huge and they rolled the world with a( sword and a shield ) for 1200 years did the british empire conquer the the world with a sword and shield and they had some technology and weapons and they could not last more than 110 .. nothing is like rome

      @@WMWMW7200 Its been a long time but the British empire lasted much longer than 110 years. Also the reason the British Empire fell was because of the formation of a national identity. People didn't want the British to rule them when the British were not like them.

      A) The Roman Empire was founded in 27 BCE. It didn't last 1200 years.
      B) In case you forgot, the Mongols conquered China.
      C) It's sad how many people are arguing about which empire was the coolest in this comments section and completely miss the point of the song.
