Really ,awesome I so sad ,spend a lots of money and my peonnie almost 3 year and don't blooms I live in zone 9 ca ,Ontario cal o did everything ,nothing. you are so good to teach ,how to grow peonnie ,I should be watch you channel, thanks.,have good afternoon. and my thanks.
My clay soil can be sculpted into pottery. It's like play-doh. I can literally press it into a cube, with pointy sharp corners, and it'll stay like that, for days. It's really really bad in our area. We're in between 2 lakes, which probably has something to do with it. Any beds that i want to create on our land, means I have to grab the spade/shovel and dig down more than a foot, and amend with tons of organic material, whatever I can find -- leaves, grass clippings, peat moss, wood chips. Otherwise not too many things do very well growing here.
Amending the soil in this way is not advisable. It creates a pocket of nutrient rich soil around the plant which causes the roots to circle instead of stretch out to look for nutrients. It also causes a pooling of water like a bath tub in the planting hole because of the inconsistent texture of the soil.
If the 2 are combined together this is not a problem. They can be planted on a mound for good drainage or the soil if clay can be improved with gypsum at rates up to 1 kg sqm. The more organic matter the better. Cow manure and chicken manure. Peonies lap it up. Later on they'll need more potash for flowers but initially it's blood and bone and these nutrient rich ingredients to get the roots established.
Mair Colomniana, Here are some places to buy tree peonies in Oklahoma according to a Google search, Keathly Nursery (Ponca City), Under the Sun Garden Center (Edmond), Bob Scott Nursery (Yukon). I hope this is helpful to you!
Outstanding Peony Video!! The best so far and I've seen a ton of them. Clear, concise, and straight to the point explanation!
Well done!
