Alex, part of your approach, as I understand it, seems similar in discussion to the work promoted by Dr. Thomas Lewis in the book "A General Theory of Love" where he talks about the therapeutic process as "limbic revision." More broadly, this is why the 12 step fellowships are so important as they aide in limbic regulation. A good therapist, the book states, will take the emotional ride with you into your dysregulated psyche and lead you back out to a more functional state. This is where I've come to learn that the opposite of addiction isn't merely sobriety, but rather the ability to connect (healthy connection). Are you familiar with that book? Your thoughts?

What about the trauma they cause to unsuspecting partners and children? It is abusive to partners and children. Just perpetuating the trauma upon others..

I wonder what it takes for the addict to ask or seek help.

My wife is a Covert NPD\Sex addict and has been having affairs now for near two years. Nothing is off limits, mieghbour, boss and married men. She has already caught herpes and Syphilis and she just keeps on going. She has been away from the home and left my 12 year old with his friend at the house with no adult supervision. It is the craziest thing I have ever seen........ I thought I had problems LOL
