So what's the exact connection between sex addiction and childhood trauma? Of all other addictions, why some victims of childhood trauma chose sex addiction instead of other addictions? I think answering these "specific questions" will help immensely. Thank you Dr Doug for the great work you are doing. God bless you.
Trust me! NO victims “Choose” to become a sex addict over the typical drug addict. It just happens. Some of them probably don’t even know they’re a sex addict.
Because thats where the addiction behavior starts, when you’re sexualized and orgasm at 8 years old, its all you wanna do. And it makes you more prone to additional addictions in the future, all the secrecy, incest behavior, masturbation. The shame and guilt. thats my story atleast, by older brother just hitting puberty. But that ended quick, turned into my other bro and neighborhood kids. Emotional neglect from parents and being add sucks too…
@@qtben17 a shame that society protects the abusers, and deems this topic as taboo to talk about. or they are protected mostly bc the abuser is a close family member. Victims are always covered up, and their mental illness grows bc they are ignored. just sad all around
My addition stems from childhood as like most of us here. Like most of us who had it happen in the early school years, we likely had neglect in the home. I imagine I'm not the only one who has a disassociation yet attention seeking personality. How do you tackle these issues? Where do you start? How do you make time away from the family and work responsibilities. It's destroying my family. Ruining my life and value of self. There is so much truama and trauma response, where do I even begin? P.s I am Canadian, I'm unsure if you can help me. Anything helps.
I'm currently reading your book, The Final Freedom, and studying the "new addiction cycle." I'm trying to see how it applies to my relapses and sexual behavior. I was just confused about the transition between "dissociation" and "altered state (Fantasy)" as I was reading the book. These two stages sound very similar. Can you please explain the difference and give an example of how a sex addict goes through both stages?
Well, in my past fights/arguments with my husband who has had issues with this exciting and interesting topic… I tell him that he should literally have NO access whatsoever to the internet and needs to only use one of those old school Nokia cell phones if which can only make phone calls. I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA if this is the correct approach or not. But I tell him this is what he should do for a good long while at least until he can manage his self control better.
