- From April 1972, Glen Campbell sings the Badfinger/Harry Nilsson hit "Without You". He even recorded the backup vocals for this performance. If he did record this song during this era, he never released it, which makes this performance even more special.
Such a classic song , but lets just spare a minute for the two guys who composed this gem, Pete Ham & tom Evans, of Badfinger.R I P.
RIP Wichita Lineman. :-(
robert harding They wrote a classic, here. Harry Nilsson did a wonderful job on his recording, of it. Glenn holds his own live, here.
They should have shown the backup singer.
@@buckjohnson1119 I agree Buck,
I think Glen was the backup singer. I think they made a studio recording and the video was a lip sync performance... My guess. The backup singer sounds a lot like Glen
Um… Harry Nilsson wrote this in 1971
WOW!! Hearing this for first time!! Glen Campbell could sing any song so beautifully perfect!!! WOW!! 💕
Saw Glen sing this in concert in 1973 in Houston. Extraordinary performer! Miss him every day.
Words can't describe how fantastic Glen Campbell was!!
Thanks for remembering Pete Ham & Tom Evans of Badfinger, Robert. Without a doubt a classic song, Glenn does it great justice in this performance.
Glenn knew good songwriters this is a great song up there with Jimmy Webb’s best!
This is an OUTSTANDING performance. What a voice!💛

It certainly is an outstanding performance! Today is the first time ever I have heard it. Harry Nilsson's is even better but this is the next best version I have heard and there are quite a number being recorded by now. Beautiful!
This is the first time I've heard Glen sing this. It takes guts to do this song. Not only is it difficult in range but Harry Nilsson did such a great job with it that set the standard really, really high. Yet Glen did a good job. I'm impressed.
Me too. I had no idea that he ever did this song Yes,it took a hell of a lot of guts,Nilsson crushed that song.
the range is not that difficult, I know your talking about the chorus when the voice goes higher and you have to go higher to give it more power and feeling to it, but its just a small part that can easily be sang without trying to make it too hard to sing
other than that the verses are easy to sing
Glen could sing anything and I'm quite sure the harmony backing track is Glen.
I can’t stand Nilsson’s version.
Why?@@thomaspappalardo7589
Glen was so multi-talented, bless him! Self-assisted here. This song needs to be sung by two or else retro-engineered. You were amazing, Glenn!
Glen Campbell is one of the best singers, guitarists & pickers ever!
One of my all time favorite music legends! Miss & love him always!🎶🎤🎸🤠🎥💞 His music lives on. RIP GLEN CAMPBELL 🙏
It’s very rare to be the best guitar player AND singer on any stage you walk on.
Glen Campbell was so talented and mastered everything he did. Great song, great singer.
Vurtuoso guitarist
This man could sing anything and WITH everyone. So much talent and so handsome. Forever missed.❤❤
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you..his voice just got right to my heart. I would say he was the most handsome man I'd ever seen.. Such an honest face, looking straight at whoever he was looking at.. so terribly missed... xx
Glenn was a superb guitarist.singer and actor, he was so talented this world is a worser place since he passed
I agree with you, Mel...
A much worse place!!!
Even the mic placement is an art!
Had no idea Glen had ever sung this song. Man but he does a stellar job of this incredible song!
We're now gonna have to live without you, dear Glen. You may be gone but through your music, you'll never be forgotten. RIP, Rhinestone Cowboy.
Amen brother! He's in Heaven now, He gave his life to Christ, and hopefully he's still singing there!
Not only he can sing, he's also one of the best guitar players out there.
Cried when it first came out...crying again. Miss you my darling.
A talented gentleman and a true master of the guitar. He’s definitely one of Gods Blessed ! I miss him!
such a beautiful cover .Hard to pull off but Glenn Nailed it.
very few male vocalists of that era could have attempted this without either crashing and burning or just sort of stinking it up. But if there was one that could nail it and do Nilsson proud it was Glen. Both men had beautiful tenor voices with incredible range and signature resonance. I love it - thanks so much for posting!
Maybe most under rated singing guitarist of all time
I don't recall Glen ever singing this Badfinger classic before. It's really an outstanding performance. Wow, he could really sing.
The world doesn't realize what we lost when Glenn passed.
I am not the 'World', but I do...!
That's right - YOU are the only one.
I know.💔
I always crack up at people who listen to an artist for the first time and says "he was so underrated"...by idiots who missed his life!
@@danc3693 are you just a troll or have a third grade reading comprehension?
I have a great admiration for Glen lately, never did when I was young ,( 68 now ). He did accomplish many things in his life, and I am just finding out about them. This song is a very difficult one to do, but he nailed it.
RIP
Ditto, Ditto, Ditto!!... And at 68, I'm just finding out, too!!
@@parisbest105 Don't forget, Glenn filed in as a replacement for Brain Wilson in a BB "s concert tour back in the mid 1960's.
A great singer, and a very good version of this Ham & Evans classic.
as i take a moment to be thankful for Tom's name being Evans..
and not ..Eggs.
That is a hard song to do live. Glen did a good job. He had a great voice.
One of my all time favs.
Yes he did
BADFINGER
Yes he does. Fantastic job.👏👏
Theres a vocal double in the chorus that didn't get any credit.
Cracking version of this classic Badfinger song, That guy was really talented,
Glen puts so much emotion into his songs
Absolutely LOVE hearing Glen sing this! Best interpretation of course, I Love everything he sings! Such a Brilliant vocalist and musician... really love his vocal range flexibility He lowers his key on this and also really raises it! What a singer! So loved and missed
Beautifully written song..... Glenn sounded great. R. I. P all... Thank you for the music💞💗💜💜
'Glen' not " Glenn ".
Always loved this song as a young girl....wonderful to hear Glen Campbells version ... even better
Sums up my thoughts about my best love too
He's among the all-time greats
He was such a wonderful singer and guitar player. He really could sing anything. I will always remember him for Galveston. It was such a beautiful song.
I heard Galveston was written about a young man going to fight in Vietnam.
I also love duelling banjos!
Glen just made my jaw drop he knocked this one out of the park sounded great .
I'm crying yo. Miss him...genius...
Thanx for sharing this , it's beautiful. 🌸〰🎶🎵
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan.
Great song, R.I.P. Glen.
It’s tough without you, too, Glen.
After a year or so, I just listened to this performance again tonight...if Nilsson had not released this song first, a release by Glen would have hit #1 on the pop charts. This performance is Sublime....and leaves me (an ol' seasoned GC fan) in complete awe. Thanks again for posting it.
Agree.
BringBackMyYesterday
Badfinger wrote and recorded it first
Great voice and a super guitar player. Too bad he seemed to be under appreciated.
Bradley Bankes I think the trouble is some of his stuff is borderline cheesy. Dress sense probs too but I like a lot of his stuff.
by whom?
That is simply wrong. He had a terrific fan base and was highly respected by his musical peers as a virtuoso guitar player and wonderful performer.
I love his outfit here. Exquisite.
What a singer Glen was, and will never be equalled or forgotten... Absolutely stupendous. xx Rest Easy Dear Glen. xx
Wow, my favorite version was always Nilsson, but I loved Badfinger for other songs. Now I might have to say my favorite is Glen.......no...close, but Nilsson is still my favorite but this is good!
Nilsson will always be my favorite but this is outstanding
Wow ,he is phenomenal !
This is a great video, thanks so much...I love this one..
Wow. He nailed it! Glen could sing the phone book and sound great. Sorely missed ❤
And What An Extraordinary Musician He Was Too!!💓
I love this. Glen coul sing anything & did a great job on all..
such a shame he never recorded this song on a LP. great backup vocals!
You're missed thank you for all your music and songs..🎶🎶🎶🎶🙏👍
Love his voice!!! ❤️
Glenn can sing anything, his voice second only to very few. Though no one sings this song better Harry Nilsson. I think he won a Grammy for this song.
perfect pitch! never heard it better!
Glen is at that same high level like Elvis that he can cover any song and sound like he owns it!
glenn was clearly a great help to a lot of people, made them better than they were.. what a guy
'Glen' not " Glenn ".
Incredible vocal range.
Hard song to sing for sure.
Beautiful.
A great writer and performer and picker...he was not without demons ...I was a secret fan not fashionable back in the late 60s and 70s to be one....loved them all
Beautiful!
Apart from his own greatest hits, Glen used to perform absolutely great covers as well.
Such a talented man never got the recondition he deserved
What a great talent amazing guitar player. Is there anything he can't sing?
i think glen sung it better than the originals awesome
Glens musical gifts on display here. A perfectionist.
Simply the best!
Lyrics
No, I can't forget this evening,
Or your face as you were leaving.
But I guess that's just the way the story goes,
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows.
Yes, it shows.
No, I can't forget tomorrow,
When I think of all my sorrow;
When I had you there but then I let you go.
And now it's only fair that I should let you know,
What you should know.
I can't live if living is without you.
I can't live, I can't give any more.
I can't live if living is without you.
I can't give, I can't give any more.
Well, I can't forget this evening,
Or your face as you were leaving.
But I guess that's just the way the story goes.
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows.
Yes, it shows.
I can't live if living is without you.
I can't live, I can't give anymore.
I can't live if living is without you.
I can't live, I can't give anymore.
Living is without you.
"you always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows."
beautiful lyric..breaks the heart.
A truly great singer. RIP
I'd forgotten how much projection glen had... RIP Glen Campbell.
Glen could sing any good song or play any song. Extremely talented
All Around Super Talent.
Beautiful voice. ❤😢😮😊
What can't he do!!!
Absolutely spot on true
There's not one. single. thing.
Love it one of my idols
The harmonies are too beautiful
He has to be the original....this version is timeless.
The original is by Badfinger in 1970. It's was the last song on their 2nd studio album's 1st side "No Dice".
Harry Nillsson was the original
@@janinelazier5789 Wrong. Badfinger rleased THEIR ORIGINAL in 1970, written by Tom Evans & Pete Ham. The description even says so.

gods I miss those shows... so much talent...
Love him!
Glen Campbell was a fabulous performer. One of my all time favorites. That said, I still prefer Harry Nilsson’s version of this song, but Glen’s version is mighty damn good, too.
RIP glen campbell
Props to the backup singer. Killer harmonizing! ❤
Yes this is fabulous he really sing any genre music as play guitar he was very handsome on top of that 💗
love Nillson, but I promise his versitility as a singer overall was dwarfed indeed by the great Glen Campbell.
That is the silliest statement I've seen in a long time.
Glen Campbell was a badass. HE did everything at a high level.
i still can not believe glen as gone tragic the best
At crescendo moments he is harmonizing with a recording of himself. At first glance one may think it is just a poor lip sinc. I believe he was playing with this effect and its intentionality ( I know, intentionality isnt a word)
Intentionality is a word :)
Wow!!! That was awe some
He nailed this song!!
he's pretty wooden so a nail seems about right.
Wow!!
Harry nailed it!!
Love you still, Glen.
Glen was such a soulful singer
Sounds great...
Glen did a good job of covering the song. But I just do not feel the same emotional gut wrenching feeling that Harry gave the song. It probably has a lot to do with the musical arrangement that Harry used. I have heard several versions of this song and I still come back to Harry's version every time. I know Pete and Tom may not have been given the accolades that Harry did but without them this song is not possible. Harry wrote some outstanding songs himself. He just struck gold when he chose to cover this one. I wish Harry had taken better care of himself physically but the rockers of the 1970's seemed to have lived like there was no tomorrow. We now no that hard living and hard substance abuse will bring on a breakdown of the major organs as we age. I have loved all of Harry's music since I heard this song in 1972. A one of a kind. RIP Harry!
Your said it, J.R.. Glen does not have the same range but he has his own niche. He nailed "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and "Gentle on My Mind" every time he sang them. Harry's version is the definitive one and the way this song should be remembered, despite other singers who have higher highs (Mariah C. and Russell H. to name some). And yes, let's not forget the birth of this song by the Badfinger.
James Russell Well said.
Harry’s cover of this Badfinger original set the tone for all other covers like Mariah’s.
Incredible!
I saw this when it originally aired late 72 early 73?? And my dad commenting how well glen harmonized with himself. I think my dad was right he had a previous recording of himself which he sang along with. I dont think there was a backup singer.
Greatest love song ever written
大好きな歌です。綺麗な英語、歌声とても素敵です。素早しい歌手が亡くなられた事、本当に残念です…。心から素敵な歌声を有難う御座いました。安らかに…
Glen was a great singer and a great guitarist.
Never heard this version. It's really good.
Rest In Peace, Glen Campbell
