      I had the same “issue”. I often create riffs that don’t fit in 4/4 and i feel like my riff is wrong but it doesn’t, i only have to think in other time signature, that is it. My best riff actually is split in 2 bars: one is 6/4 and the seconde one in 7/4 and it sounds great.

    • @SugarpillProd
      @SugarpillProd  Рік тому +1

      Yeah GGD runs through Kontakt, so that should work fine in Reason. I believe they've updated to Superior 3 now, so I'm not sure if that's only VST3, but Superior 2 works fine, if you're still able to buy the older version.

    I love it and honestly I struggle to write outside of what I play. I can't tell you how many garageband files I have of pop punk songs I tried to write but just didn't work.
    I also really want to know how you get such a beautiful tone and mix. I use logic pro amps on garageband, but I still can never get anything close to that sound. Is it that I'm using garageband? Or am I just doing something wrong?
    I'll also add that I'm going through a steinberg ur-12 into a macbook pro. I have a gibson les paul as well.

    • @SugarpillProd
      @SugarpillProd  Рік тому +1

      I've heard out of all the DAW's that GarageBand can be quite limited in what you can do, but I can't speak personally, as I've never it used it myself.
      As far as my tones go, I use an Axe Fx II for almost everything. Sometimes I'll use the odd amp sim - usually a Neural DSP one - but it's mostly the Axe Fx you're hearing in 90% of my videos. It's not essential to have something like that though, there's plenty of great amp sims out there - both paid for and free versions. I think the biggest thing is to first work out what kind of guitar sounds you enjoy, and then look into what plugins / gear is out there, that can give you that sound. It helps if you at least have a few sounds you like as references, because "good guitar tone" is pretty subjective, so you just need to nail down the sounds you like first, and then try to chase that tone.
      Regarding the mix, there's quite a bit going on, as mixing is pretty in-depth. If you have any specific questions about certain areas you're struggling with, I'd be happy to offer you some advice. Unfortunately, I can't really give you one short answer of how to get a good mix, as it's really about doing lots of little things that will eventually add up to a great sounding mix.

      @strawbunnyoat Рік тому

      @@SugarpillProd thank you for the reply, sorry for taking like a month to get back! (That’s ADHD for you).
      The axe looks great but is waaay out of budget to me, the only two I could pick up would be Reason and the dbx 286s.
      In terms of gear/daw, would that make a significant difference?
      I’ve never used a preamp outside of my steinburg. So I’m not sure of the difference

    • @SugarpillProd
      @SugarpillProd  Рік тому

      @@strawbunnyoat I wouldn't suggest those as "fixes" for your issues. The DBX helps to give you that extra 10% when recording certain instruments, but it's not going to be a night and day difference.
      With regards to Reason, I just personally really like the workflow, and I'm so used to it that I find it to be the best for my personal needs. However, what DAW you use really comes down to your own preferences. I'd suggest trying out a bunch, and see what one clicks for you.
      There's no inherent sound or anything to any DAW, the main differences are the workflow, and what comes bundled with them - like plugins, virtual instruments, etc. You'll often find people who work in similar genres tend to favour one over the other - like Ableton is predominantly used for Electronic styles, and the Djent guys seem to like Reaper more.
      Part of your problem could also just be tracking. I find people spend far too much time worrying about their tone, but not enough time spent on how best to track certain parts in their song. Like should you quad track the rhythm guitars, or maybe a certain lead part would benefit from being double tracked. Those things are massively overlooked, and, to me, are far more important than amp tone.
