    Update: removed stuck blade. Diagnosis: If you look inside where the blade goes and at the same time move the removal mechanism. You will see it pressing down on a little release lip on the saw holder. Problem is of course it doesn’t release. Ok now the fix: use a flat head screw drive to press it down instead. Make sure you try to move it in the same direction as the release mechanism was attempting to move it. This got it unstuck. Essentially the little removal action is very weak and it can’t push hard enough on the release lip inside. Once I got out it was fine putting the blade in and out but it is clear this removal mechanism is not well designed.
    Why this is a big deal. You DO NOT need to take it apart when a blade is stuck.
    Original post: Took me all of one use to get a blade stuck in it. Other than it worked fine. Now I just have to figure out how to get the blade unstuck!

    Just purchased the saw and battery combo 2 weeks ago...used it yesterday for 1x. Had gotten the one hand model but got rid of it due to under performance and hard to work with--osteoarthritis the reason. My main use was and will be cutting fallen limbs/branches from my Live Oak Trees. Polished one large limb off yesterday: 8.5 feet long, 5.5 feet wide due to branches/leaf off shoots, thickest diameter of limb was 4.5 inches. This saw made short work out of this said limb. Former bow saw and lopper days are over. BTW, used a 9" Diablo Pruner blade. What a great experience and we are going to have a lot more fun coming up!! Thanks for your video review STR!!!

      That's about all it's good for. I smoked this saw in one day, cutting T-111 siding around some windows I had to replace. It only made it half way around the second window (with about an hour between windows) before it started smoking bad. I pulled out my old, blue Ryobi recip to finish the job. The sad thing is that blue saw has been doing worse jobs for 15 years and never smoked.

    Definitely should have tried a new metal blade when it popped out a second time, really curious if it's the blade or the tool considering it had no issues holding the blade while making the other cuts.

      Most blades are rated for 3100spm and the saw is rated for 3200spm. So it's a 90% chance the blade was the problem

    Should have put a new blade in after it popped out the first or second time and retested with a brand new blade to see if the problem was with the tool or the blade.
    Also, would have like to seen it actually compared to the previous model to see the performance difference.

      It did the same thing with a new blade, when we were cutting at that angle, in steel. Any other cuts, in any other material, it held the blade just fine. We didn't have the earlier Ryobi version in the shop. Although, I'm confident this one is much more powerful...just by the seat of the pants feel. Thanks for watching.

    None of the hp tools have a 3rd terminal. It's the 2 extra terminals on the bottom side of the battery housing on the tool. So that recipe saw will take advantage of the hp battery cuz it has the extra 2 terminals. The new impact driver pblid02 however does not have the extra 2 terminals and does not require the hp batteries. Some do some dont

    Doesn't look to me like you were putting the blade in correctly. The tab need to be fully pulled up before the blade is inserted. My only issue with the saw is more vibration than I would like. Also, it really needs 8" or 9" blades because the blade is recessed into the housing.

    I’m confused, which honestly is normal. Jokes aside, you said it doesn’t have the HP terminals, but aren’t the two terminals at the bottom rear of the battery stem opening in the battery area the two HP terminals? Yes it’s true not all of the HP tools have these two extra contacts but it sure appears that this recip saw does. I know all HP tools can use HP batteries just like every other 18V cordless Ryobi tool ever made, but if it’s lacking the extra HP contacts, will it actually perform better with an HP battery versus a standard battery? I’d love to see a head to head with two equal capacity batteries. One HP battery and one standard battery used in two HP tools, one with the extra HP contacts, and one without. I’m really curious if an HP tool lacking the two extra contacts will actually perform better with an HP battery versus a standard battery. Thanks for the awesome video! I stumbled upon your channel somehow and really enjoy your reviews. Thank you and keep up the great work!

    It really seems like this isn’t much of an improvement over the previous brushless model. I’d like to see a comparison. The older model has a hold open blade release, orbital mode, anti-vibration handle and this saw has none of those features.

    • @chillstep4life
      @chillstep4life 2 роки тому +2

      Your right on the orbital mode. I own both, but I think the name of the game is size and weight. This new recip saw is a bit smaller maybe 2/3 the size of the last p517 brushless recip saw. I can also feel a noticeable weight difference. Not sure exactly but I would say it feels at least 2lb maybe 3lb lighter. As far as vibration goes they are about the same.

      That was very odd. We tried and tried to get it to reject the blade like that when cutting wood, but it wouldn't do it. The only time it would do that is when we were cutting at an angle, on the steel. It held the blade absolutely fine when we were cutting any other cuts.

      The only time we could get the blade to do this was cutting across two surfaces, at one time, in thick steel, while also applying significant downward pressure on the blade. Otherwise, it would eject, and we tested other blades too. Even putting significant downward pressure on the blade, while cutting on a single section of thick steel, it did absolutely fine.
