The crazy thing is that this band played for three hours a night with this same kind of passion and intensity. Definitely the greatest band I ever saw in a live setting.
This was filmed in November of 1969 at a television studio in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The audience was very small, but this was shown on national television, and they were just becoming really big in 1969 when their first album came out earlier that year. Between 1970-75 they were one of THE biggest bands in the world. The intensity that they performed with was typical at every show, it didn’t matter where it was or the size of the audience, they played HARD. They usually played for 2 or 3 hours.
GFR sold out Shea Stadium in 1971 in just 71 HOURS! The only other band to sell out Shea was the Beatles and it took them weeks. In 1969 they were unplugged and kicked out mid set when opening for Led Zeppelin in Olympia Stadium in Detroit because they were blowing the roof off of the place! You need to watch “Heartbreaker” and “We’re An American Band” live in L.A. 1974.
Keep one thing in mind #MDreeezy, as you react to ANY song before 1997, especially the music from the 60's, 70's and 80's ... there was no such thing as 'auto-tune software', digital/stereo equipment and any other hocus-pocus BS studios use today to enhance a singers voice. The music created by my generation {perhaps your own parents generation} came from raw, unadulterated talent with heart & soul layered in between. The artists back in the day had to have actual talent to sing, play instruments {singing & playing at the same time was common theme to}. The person's 'looks' came in 3rd sort of speak. They weren't looked upon as most important as they are today. I don't know if you have had the opportunity to see any one of your favorite artist LIVE, but if and when you do, I guarantee they won't sound ANYTHING close to their studio versions.
Glad you listened to this great band from the late sixties to the mid seventies. I met the lead singer, Mark Farner, several times. He’s a really nice guy. I recommend you react to Heartbreaker live 1974 next by them.
I appreciate your input on these classic musical artists. I grew up with these guys. You are very advanced in your musical appreciation of great music. Keep up the great music choices.
I saw them at Shea Stadium in the early 70s, about your age. You ever wanna get blown away at a live concert, Grand Funk is the group to see. That's what appreciate about you. Got an open mind and always willing to learn about all generations.
People back in the DAY they DID THIS with no HELP other than their guitars, drums, and TRUE vocal abilities.... Over the years, Ive witnessed more and more people on stage DEPENDING on BACKUP, from technology and other unseen people making it HAPPEN with those assistants... This is WAY WAY BETTER than you'll SEE TODAY.... LET'S SEE them try...
@@cindyshawver9986 per Google: November 1969. Mark Farner & Don Brewer on drums were 20 & Mel Schacher on bass was only 18 years old at the time of this performance. We were close with two of them.
Now that is real music. Technology has advanced a lot (i.e. auto-tune etc...) but not musical talent. I'm not a fan of rap and have never really considered it as music. It is definitely an art. But music? Not IMO. Good reaction. I would suggest some earphones to get the full experience. This bassist was often referred to as the " God of thunder."
This band has a lot of bangers them and Deep Purple was my favourite bands growing up . I’m with you on the new stuff rock ,hip hop but I did come across a artist that changed that REN he can rap with the best and he plays Multiple instruments. He’s been around but not mainstream check out money games ,theHunger Because he has a band called the big push it does live bus game in England you won’t be disappointed plus your Prescribers go to the roof yourself
JUST IMAGINE...............THESE boys were 20 & 21 yrs.old @ da time! Bass player was 18 when he joined..........WHAT!!!! and then THEY started hating each other over money.
A more modern rock (?) band is falling in reverse. My favorite song by them is watch the world burn. Popular monster is another good one too. Oh and if you get a chance, gorillaz are awesome too. Clint Eastwood is one of their most popular songs. Thanks for the reaction! Kerp up the good works 👍
You need some modern rock too! Check out The Warning ⚡. "Evolve" live at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. They are a 3-piece power trio like this. They will blow you away.
"... pain and blisters, on my mind and hands, workin all day makin' up nickel bags". Have you heard of "nickel bags"? I'll give you a hint. Back in the day weed was much cheaper.
A lot of their songs are more than 8 minutes, and they play them just like this one. I'm 65 now and I started listening to them when I was 8.
The crazy thing is that this band played for three hours a night with this same kind of passion and intensity. Definitely the greatest band I ever saw in a live setting.
That is insane!!
@@MDreeezy that's the way it was back then with performers. James Brown as well. I saw Jimi Hendrix in concert in 1969.
Everyone should see this video, this is what music with passion is.
I seen the band live in 1970 . They were Amazing and loud. My ears rang for a week, but it was worth it 😅 Thank you for sharing .😎☮️
No problem!
These guys are all around 20. They went to high school together. Love this band. Thanks for reacting to them.
Mel was 18 and the Mark and Don were both 21, so yep, around 20.

But all good brother
You're wise beyond your years young man. There is hope. Thanks

7 weeks for Beatles to sell out at Shea stadium.
Robert Plant should induct into the hall of Fame. That would be epic.
Growing up with 70's music was the best! More great songs from them: We're an American Band, I'm Your Captain and Some Kind of Wonderful.

You’re so right about music from that era. You have to remember there was no Pitch Correct , Auto Tune etc and you NEVER saw any band lip sync live.
It's raw and live.
Truly one of the great bands that get no respect and should have been in the Hall of Fame years ago!
19 and 20 year olds,...wow!
Glad you listened to this great band from the late sixties to the mid seventies. I met the lead singer, Mark Farner, several times. He’s a really nice guy. I recommend you react to Heartbreaker live 1974 next by them.

I also met Mark in Flint, late 70's. Very nice
Enjoyed your reaction. The band members were 20 years old when they did this awesome performance
Wild Cherry Play that funky music❤

I'm 67. Appreciate you young folks taking this journey. Great Rock AND R&B music. Probably over a thousand great tunes back in the day❤
Another great review,👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Exactly! Real talent
I respect what you said about the different types of music over time. I am 67yrs old can tell you got your head together man. I subbed today thanks!
Thanks Young Man for enjoying the music i was raised on in the 60's and 70's
No Auto Tune or Pitch Correction back then. You must watch “Child In Time” by Deep Purple.
Live Deep Purple (1970) Child in Time.....
My era. They used to perform for hours. Lead singer is 19 years old
No,the bassist Mel was 18 and Mark and Don were 21 in November of 1969

Yep real music
I appreciate the realness of this channel! Continue to grow and flourish in the knowledge for music is the great communicator!

The drummer put in some work on this one!💯 Great 10 minutes of intense cardio!😂❤️✌️
A great primitive raw performance by 3 kids with modest equipment. #10.
Isaw them at sunken gardens in san antonio years ago ..they were just turning 50 but they rocked the place !!!!

He is in fact in prison. Singing about his weed. That's it. Period.
1969 !
Keep up the great work young grasshopper!
One little advice…headphones are a MUST with rock, and never EVER pause during a guitar solo! 💪
Noted!
Headphones are a must, and make sure they cover your ears completely, this way no outside noise interferes with the music.
Now listen to Chicago at Tanglewood playing 24 or 6 to 4. Talent will ooze out of your speakers.

Everybody and their long lost brother reacts to 'inside looking out'. React to 'into the sun' live gfr.
I'd love to see you get a good set of headphones! the music sounds so much better!
Another good one. At some point if you can, please do the Chambers Brothers, "Time"...long version. Thanks!

Flint Rock and Roll Ruled,
For rock, you need headphones.
“Back in the 1900s” 😅 So this isn’t too far back but this will blow your mind. “The Pot” by Tool. Be prepared.
To think that this is live and they were all under 20 years old.
Only Mel the bass player was under 20, he was 18.....the other two Mark and Don were both 21.
dueling tubas lol.
when they cry OK Boomer,, show them this,,, cheers
