    Watched your video again, followed the procedures with preflight check as you described. Turns out the altimeter knob is there and I can click on it, it’s just very dark, so was able to adjust with the mouse. Starting to figure all this out, would take forever doing it on my own, so your videos are very helpful. The extra can pull constant 6 positive g’s, at 8 it starts losing control/stalling. 6 negative, And if you try to go beyond that in an outside loop starting at altitude, the plane won’t let you go beyond that, which was the issue I was having originally, it would stay in a vertical dive and wouldn’t allow it to go over further.

    Great tutorials but as soon as i try it with a different plane with different avionics then i'm as good as flying blind (as for as instruments go). Non of the planes I really wanna fly use the Garmin G1000 (who everyone uses in tutorials).

    Yeah, well, it´s a simple way of flight planning, as you said yourself. Doesn´t have to be ultra realistic because it´s a Sim an nobody will get hurt.
    However I have a few concerns about this specific example.
    First of all: If you still need a GPS to find your destination (like you mentioned for the last leg), your plan is bad if you call it a VFR plan. VFR means to find your way by looking out of your window. All additional radio or GPS navigation is only there as a backup and you must(!!!) be able to complete the flight without. In VFR you have to be able to find your way and to know where you are, even if all navigational equipment fails. If you can´t, you are not flying VFR.
    Second thing is: You completely ignored all airspaces. Yes, again, it´s a simulator and nobody cares. But I´m not sure if it´s the best idea for a tutorial to plan a flight that crosses the final approach sector appr. 2 NM in front of the runway ends of an international major airport, risking mid air collisions with anything from a Dash 8 up to an A380. (Since you weren't planning on communicating with anyone, chances are good that for the rest of the flight you'll be politely asked by two Belgian F-16s on quick reaction alert to please follow and land at an airfield of their choice and to hand over your flight licenses. Which you wouldn't see again. 😬)
    In the end, what you did here is to set up a GPS flight plan which you wanted to follow using the autopilot. And that´s OK.
    But it´s basically IFR on an illegal route and it has absolutely nothing to do with VFR flying.

    Thanks for all the helpful tips! I just set up Xbox flight sim a couple of days ago, and already have 20 hours in the extra 300. Really enjoy doing aerobatics, however the plane has some glitches, at least in the Xbox on maneuvers doing extreme aerobatics, hopefully they work that out. I do have a mouse, stick/throttle/pedals, I can’t locate the fuel mixture anywhere. Maybe you can give me insight on that. Also, can’t seem to set the barometric pressure, wish that just set automatically for whatever airport you start at. I’ll watch your video again a little later today and follow your instructions while looking at the panel, maybe it works the same on Xbox.

      You can go to options-control settings and then you will see on the left "Filter". Set filter to "All" and now you can search for whatever you want and then set a button for it.i made it rb+pressing right stick.

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  3 роки тому

      Yep that's what I'd recommend as well, go in the controls and assign a button to set it automatically. Also, you've probably seen, but I created a few aerobatics videos with some basic maneuvers to start out with: ua-cam.com/play/PL6zBzRRsfGL_uhSxqdNV2h2NA9bpNj-NZ.html

      @@FlightSimSchool done RC planes forever, doing all the craziest stuff, including 3D. Took a few private pilot lessons, and a few lessons at Shawn Tucker’s school of aerobatics in a Pitts. The Extra in the sim seems to stall easy and loose control. Not enough rudder authority for knife edges. Can’t really do true snap rolls either. Hopefully they will fix in update. On the sim extra’s panel, I can’t locate the fuel mixture anywhere. If it was a knob, I’d use the mouse to change mixture, just can’t find it. I’ll look once more, and really need to be able to set the altimeter correctly before taking off. Sometimes it calibrates correctly by itself, but most the time it reads -1660 at SFO airport, which should be at 50.

      I do buz the airports quite a bit. Even short distance travel, longest is SFO to Monterey along the coast, I fly as low as possible, doing aero and fly upside down quite often. No speed rush at altitude🤣. Main reason I want the altimeter accurate is when doing low aerobatics, I need to know how low to the ground I am when I start, I want to figure out how low I can get away with outside loops, stalls, hammerheads, etc. pulling out of all these aerobatic moves with less than 50 feet to spare it’s a blast🤣

  • @pauldanrich3919
    @pauldanrich3919 3 роки тому

    Do you know if there’s a g meter in the sim? I searched online, couldn’t find anything. For aerobatics, would be great if it was a number reading you could quickly glance at at all times. Sorry for bombarding you with so many questions, I’m trying to learn this sim. Just noticed last night there’s a pulldown menu bar at the top of the screen for communicating with the towers, getting gas etc. Glad I found that, works great. Still can’t figure out how to adjust altimeter, that would be a great feature at the top bar pulldown menu.

      @@FlightSimSchool thanks, didn’t even notice it. Very helpful. Red Bull air racers are limited to pulling 10 g’s, or they’re disqualified. They are wearing g suites, and very acclimated to g’s from years of working their bodies up to it. I’ll check what the extra can pull. Glad I’m not in it!🤣

      The weekly challenge is usually on the home page but it's not clear what the latest challenge is. I had a look on the official forums and didn't find any answer but there is a thread about it: forums.flightsimulator.com/t/what-is-this-updates-actual-spotlight-community-challenge/428302
      I suspect the answer is that the current weekly challenge is just the discovery flights.

      I got the thrustmaster stick, throttle, and rudder pedals. Makes the experience so much better, so the way to go for now, however the throttle moves too easy, rudder pedals need more spring to center. If it’s helpful, I set both aileron and elevator sensitivity to -40/-40, rudder to -60/-60. Throttle stayed linear. Seems to work really well, especially with the extra 300 Taildragger. Only plane I’ve flown so far, never had any assistance, jumped right in the cockpit. Also got a flight simulator cockpit stand from Amazon. Modifications include lowering the monitor stand and moving it much closer to my head, within a couple of feet. 32” curved gaming monitor is incredible👍😁

    Need help. First, all settings are set to “hard”. I want to start from the hanger, or at least off the runway on taxi way, engine and all switches off. My sim is still starting on the runway, engine running, even set to “hard”. Also, please share, from starting point, process of setting everything from cockpit, including altimeter. Still can’t figure out how to set for proper starting airport altitude. Also, do I need to set a switch for the barometer to click while in flight to keep accurate altitude? It’s been so long, I can’t remember the procedures, so any assistance would be so helpful. Just flying the extra 330 for now, so simple enough settings, just need a little help to better understand. Thank you so much!

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  3 роки тому +1

      On the flight planning screen, in the runway dropdown, you should be able to select a parking spot instead of a runway. If you're just doing little jaunts with the Extra and taking off and landing at the same airport, you shouldn't need to reset the barometer, but it doesn't hurt either, especially if weather conditions change.

      @@FlightSimSchool I really appreciate your help and your videos.They were how I found out about the flight simulator in the first place, so thank you! What part of the controls do I set the barometer? Do I need to have a toggle up/down switch? I’m just a bit confused on what I’m to bind in the control options. I have barometer set to why button, but it doesn’t do anything. Or do I need a button or buttons for altimeter? Lastly, is there a way to videotape my flight from the ground somewhere at the airport. I can do crazy flybys and aerobatics, like an airshow, and would like to go back and watch from a spectator’s perspective on the ground. Thanks again for all your expertise, much appreciated.👍
