  • There are three types of snapping hip syndrome: external, internal and intra-articular. Here are some exercises to help with external snapping hip syndrome, which is the most common of the three.

Good video but too quick of a pace could have done a slightly better job esp with the last exercise. What's its purpose? What muscles does it engage? How long to hold the position for? Pace ? Is it a stretch or done for repetitions ? I'm going to try it anyway since its a new position with one leg hanging ...it might unlock or activate something new but please bare in mind for future videos.

Extremely useful to see the description of the mechanism using skeleton there. I am left wondering what is the mechanism by which these exercises could help. What prevents snapping in a healthy hip?

If the IT Band is snapping over the greater trochanter, therapy will focus on loosening what pulls on it (usually hip flexors) and strengthening muscles that can reposition the femur where it should be (resolve any potential knee valgus, ie strengthen the glutes). The adductor magnus are antagonist to the glute medius, so if they are tight, they will also contribute to week glute medius, thus the stretching of adductors. I hope this helps to clarify 😳. I am not sure about the rolling to standing exercise.

Question, for intra articular, is there a correction/exercise that I can work on?
I have a lot of pain when my hip "snaps", it does feel like it's deep inside, but the external and internal and where you describe where the pop is doesn't seem like the location of mine.
How it happened, I was doing "flutter kicks" in the Army, for 2hrs straight and my hip popped, my leg fell and I couldn't move it. It wasn't until I, with my hands lifted it and moved inwards towards my other leg, that it made a louder pop sound, after rolling around from the pain, I lifted my leg again, and it snapped again and fell, again and I couldn't move it. I spent 5 years in the active army running on it and doing all the other exercises, and it got worse. My leg is now being "dragged" by my body causing severe back pain and misalignment, and I have lost mobility in the joint as well as strength. The military just issues naproxen and says that I'm malingering. I then exited the Army and filed a claim with the VA and they agree that it is "not right" with how my hip acts, but have given me no directions on how to soothe, or correct the issue. Any insight on what may help, or if what I describe sounds like something else, would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.
