2019 Acura RDX Infotainment system reboot (How-To)

Just started driving to work and my CarPlay wouldn’t start. Thank you brother, the reboot worked! Whenever this would happen in the past, I would normally pull over, shut off the car, open the door, and restart the car.

Thanks for posting this Xray...I found it from your AcuraZine Forum post. This happened to me while driving into work today. Had Apple CarPlay going, heard the loud "beep" then lost all audio. The first reboot got CarPlay back up, but still no audio and lost all the other icons for radio, Sirius, etc. Just rebooted again, all is back to normal. Much easier than pulling out a fuse or disconnecting the battery. Hopefully, Acura can fix this with a software update as it seems to be affecting a good % of the new RDX's out there.

Just to add one thing: after my first rebooting, the system doesn't even have AM/FM all the audio stuff anymore, I did it for a second time and everything is back and working well.

This just happened to me today after a year of ownership. A loud beep while I was driving and carplay screen froze, music stopped playing. Infotainment screen did not turn off after stooping the car and getting out. So I tried this reboot process once and was able to turn the screen off. But the audio was still not working. Going to try the double reboot like others have suggested.
Update: Second reboot fixed the audio not working issue and also brought the radio icons and sound settings back. Thanks everyone for posting the double reboot details.

THANK YOU! my Acura dealer seems to be mystified as to how to do this. My system has frozen 4 times in the past few months and most recently, following the dealer's advice to "let it sit overnight" did not reboot - I'll try this! Acura MUST get this - as well as the new Bluetooth/AppleCarPlay incompatibility problem.

Thank you for posting this. I have had this happen multiple times in my new RDX and each time I had to bring it to dealership to get it "reset". I learned that all they did was unplug the battery and hook it back up. I will try this next time it happens. Its nice to know that its not just happening to me.

Thank you it sort of worked. At least it’s no longer frozen and my battery won’t die but now my Sirius XM isn’t showing up
EDIT: after Reading other comments I did this a second time and it works now

Thanks for the vid. It seems to work just fine so far. Did the same thing, had to reset 2 times in a row and everything came back (first reset, the radio and serius apps weren't there).

Thank you su much for this. Had the same issue on a brand new 2020 Acura RDX for which this has happened twice in the first two weeks of ownership. Had to reboot twice as others had mentioned but finally works. I can't believe that Acura allows this to happen?!?!?

@@demoqi No worries! It has not happened since - since then iOS had a major update for iPhone 11 which seemed to have made Apple Car Play a little bit more stable. That may have made a difference but hard to say...

TYSM! It worked. My RDX battery died and AAA had to come out. I have appt to take car in. Hoping they will remove fuse #37-Audio so this will work. This is horrible.

@@pbelani the system was going through an update at the time (at least that's what they told me) and there was nothing I could do. It just fixed itself a couple of days later...no idea how. If it's any reassurance though, mine has been acting up the past two days and it's driving me insane so I have a feeling it might happen again too. It's probably an overall Acura problem since it hits groups of people at the same time :/ wish I knew more, good luck!

@@miav2022 I called the dealer they said it was perhaps a system update although I am all up to date. I disconnected the battery so it wouldnt drain all night.plan to take it to the dealer tomm. .thanks for the help!

Curious if anyone has gotten any dealer fix since the lawsuit settlement. If I understood correctly it also included dealership training to fix the issue.

I don't think they keep the CD player anymore, you have to export the music into a USB drive, and play from there.

I have a problem with the 360 camera in the 2020 advance model. When I got the car, the 360 camera worked as it supposed to, but when I arrived home, there was a camera system failure and I only could see the side and back cameras, the 360 view was greyed out. I thought, maybe it's the connection to the front cam or the cam itself that wasn't working, so to rule that possibility out, I did the system reboot here and when I started the car the 360 view worked again, well at least for a couple of seconds before showing the camera system error again (the backup camera seemed to have another view when the 360 camera worked). So the issue seems not to be with the camera itself... Anyone has a suggestion before I go to the dealer, maybe "knows" which system is malfunctioning?

I tried a second reboot while the engine was running, but this time the camera failure was there from the start. Before rebooting, the hardware connection screen shows the 'ECU lanewatch camera ntsc' is red (not connected), same with the first reboot. I guess that has to do with LKAS, which worked but the CMS once warned me when a car on the other side of the road approached me (he drove correct). Maybe it all has to do with a recalibration or something else with the Acurawatch system?

I would just pull the fuse

Pulling the fuse, or disconnecting one of the battery terminals will fix it. You shouldn't have to do all that, but this is what it is when we drive computers on wheels.

You may want to place a rag in the space just beneath the fuse box, in the event you drop the fuse, it could fall behind the knee well trim, and, well, you know how that would go.
