Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Floor is a beast! As far as singers go, nobody is as versatile, as far as front women go, nobody can control a massive crowd like that, she is the best in the world! This is a drummers song, and he was flawless, absolute master of his craft. Enjoy the Nightwish journey!
That’s my term for her as well. It’s common to call her the Valkyrie goddess, But I think she’s closer to Conan the barbarian. Beste Zaangers where she politely and humbly took everyone’s most important song, made it her own, sang in new languages, dominated each episode and instead of causing the lamentations of the women produced goosebumps and tears, while captivating her home nation, and you can see that little gleam in her eye after each performance😊

Here's the thing with Nightwish ... each song will be your new favorite. We say my favorite song is whichever Nightwish song to which I am currently listening. No two are alike, and each is a masterpiece unto itslf. Tuomas (the keyboardist) is the greatest composer of my lifetime, and it's a long one. Each member of the band is a virtuoso in their own right, and when they come together with his composition, it's pure magic. Fasten your seatbelt for the ride of a lifetime and I guarantee you will be amazed with each new listen.

I agree. Every song performed in Wacken 2013 was and still is the best performance of that song ever. In addition to that legendary gig, you should check out the Poet and the Pendulum from Wembley 2015 show and The Greatest Show on Earth from Tampere 2015 show. The song The Greatest Show on Earth is about a book titled identically, not about too big ego of this band.

You are about to go down one very very deep rabbit hole now that you have seen almost all of our Valkyrie Queen Floor's repertoire but there is so much to explore within each. Floor had at the time of this performance only relatively recently joined Nightwish. Watching this performance towards the end where she raises her hand for the chorus I imagine is the moment she took control of the German Division of the Nightwish Army. 🤘

No-one has the right words. They just don't exist. Floor is a transcendent talent, her tone, range, pitch & control are phenomenal ... and her stage presence & story-telling is just amazing!! And the band - the band are all masterful musicians. Together they present a synergistic glory that is completely and utterly ineffable. I've been waiting for this moment for months. 😂A joy to see you react to it. Mine, yours and I think everyone's reaction on seeing Nightwish for the first time is similar. They are just so good live. Apart from the few that don't have live videos then always go for the live reaction with Nightwish. Quite apart from Floor's voice, I honestly think she has a similar stage presence to the likes of Freddie Mercury, she commands the stage as you'll see as you watch more. Tuomas the keyboard player composes all the songs and like this one they transition lots. Oh and the bass player here Marko (no longer in the band) is also a great singer and they both sing in quite a few songs. I'd say an ideal next step would be to go for either Storytime or Ever Dream from this same Wacken show. Or there's Gabriel's list when he turns up shortly 😂 Caution: Huge rabbit hole ahead. 🤣

Thanks for your fantastic reaction! This wacken 2013 concert is one of the best of all time! Best singer on earth with an unbelievable voice performance for 2 hours! Tuomas (the man behind the keyboard) is the genius, who composed all this fantastic Nightwish songs! All member of the band on a absolute top level! I watch this concert every year 1-2 times, and i get always goosebumps... You are now ready, for a journey for the phänomenal music of Nightwish!

I absolutely love watching reactors viewing this heavenly performance for the first time, and you did not disappoint. Yes, it's hard to put into words the feelings after watching this.
The band has had 3 very good singers, one of them has the power to perform any note and the versatility to sing whatever she wants like the best, that is Floor Jansen.
The whole Wacken 2013 show is magical. Start at the beginning with Dark Chest of Wonders and go through the set list to the end. Lots of musical & vocal diversity.
