This song reminds me of my best friend. He moved to Alaska while I moved to Texas. We were both 21 and looking to find ourselves. I would play this song when I missed him. My eyes would water every time I heard it. Thankfully we both moved back home and after 6 years I got to have him as my friend again." I met him for a song in"...Albuquerque. We are both 65 now and he is still my best friend. What a beautiful song. My eyes are watering again.
I always want to go back to Venezuela when I hear this! I'll go back. Our government isn't always right when it picks our enemies. Venezuela is a wonderful place that people from other countries, like Canada, visit often. I'll go back. I'll go back...
If memory serves, from reading liner notes and other stuff back in the day, it was about a buddy of Randy's (Ray Ware is the name that comes up though others can double-check). I wonder if anyone else can relate - losing a close brother who's fallen - feeling sad, wistful but unsure exactly what and how to say, all at the same time?
Ray is his manager and buddy for 50 years. Sadly, Ray believes a lot of really bad doctrine and I'd be very surprised if his salvation is genuine. Our conversations certainly don't lead me to feel confident that he believes in the finished work of Jesus as sole 100% redemption from sin. Turns out the "Maranatha music" crowd out of 70s Southern California followed a lot of false teaching.
I've been a Randy fan since Wonderama and I never heard this song. Another great muse. I wonder who it's about. Maybe I'll know halfway through the song. Oh, yeah- he knows who you're talkin' 'bout. Funny. Dylan's got nuthin' on Randy.
It's about Ray "Bissell" Ware. Randy's childhood friend. Ray was searching for something. Ray eventually found the Lord and last I heard was Randy's agent.
First, this song is about Ray Ware, Randy's best and manager who Randy has known since kindergarten. Second, I have been a Randy fan since 1979 and this song is off one of his two best albums, in my opinion. If you get a chance, listen to his first two albums, Welcome to Paradise and The Sky is Falling. Both produced by Larry Norman (when they were friends) and the best albums he ever put out, in my opinion. Once he signed on with the big corporate record companies, they clipped his wings and his spirit. Not that he didn't have good albums after these two, but none of them were as free in spirit and good musically.
Venezuela is a GREAT place to go! Just save your passports in a safe, and say you are Canadian and there is a wonderful experience awaiting you! Sam with Cuba. Our government doesn't always get stuff right, but they love all tourists, no matter where they from.

Randy’s best song. It does that thing songs do, really well.

Interesting. Thank you.
Yep it's Ray Ware. Randy called him Bissell for some reason. Ray is a real cool guy. I've had the opportunity to get to know him a bit.
@@TristanandIsolt What’s he doing nowadays?
Top track!

oboogie2 I think “Welcome to Paradise” is one of the top three Christian rock albums of all time.
Come to the Philippines instead. I moved from L. A. California to the Philippines in 2010. Philippines is home now.
