This video was very helpful. This just happened to my 2007 tonight. This got the gear shift to move but unfortunately the dash is stuck in neutral like the gear is not connecting too the engine. Thank you for this video.
@@unclemarksdiyauto Thank you for the response. My mechanic said it was the cable under the hood and he also going to replace the gear shift. You definitely know your stuff!
SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING, if this doesn't work for you look that up. It's if the shifter cable is loose, the bushing has fallen off. Bushing is a clip that goes onto the cable wire and then clips into it's secured location. If that cable is loose it won't shift gears. Took. About 10 mins for me to do. Part costed about 20 or less
Same happened to me last night. Uncle Mark made it easy to disassemble & put back NO PROBLEM. IT WAS SO EMBARRASSING WHERE I WAS IN FRONT OF VALET AT A FANCY RESTAURANT IN BOCA RATON. SHEESH, CHYSLER GARBAGE, PURE COBBAGE. had a brand new ram & trans slipped after babying it for 2500miles. Junk cars, will never buy again. My dad's sebring btw.
Good to hear the videos are helping. Sad to hear your having so many issues! Hope that this is the last time for a long time that it breaks down! Thanks for watching.
Our 2013 Chrysler 200 was stuck in park. Turned out to be a bad brake light switch. Bought a new switch and replaced the original switch. $16 for an OEM switch and we’re good to go. Not a difficult job, but it was a PITA working on my back.
My 2010 Sebring stuck in P, but driving forward! I've towed it but, am I understanding that it may be a brake system issue? Also, my cruise went out 6 months ago.
@@daiquiririchard8823 I would check the shift cable. Has it detached or some how gone out of alignment at the transmission? When you are really in park, the transmission stops the car from moving, not the brakes. I would guess the transmission is in another gear other than park.
Thanks Mel, I try as a relatively newer channel, but probably not THE BEST! Every time I do a video, I hopefully learn what can be improved on. Hope you gained some insight on this shifter. Take care.
I could be wrong, but I don't think so. It should move freely between first and reverse, only locking in park. (I may be mistaken) Wondering if cable on top of transaxle has moved, or something has jammed it there? You should be able to unhook it at transaxle and see if from inside the car the shifter moves. It seems strange to me that it is stuck in first.
@@malakomx Lol! Of course now the bell “all” notifications is automatically set, so a person needs not touch it. (Not sure what the little dog will do now!)
You are not explaining that their is an access panel for the right side if you remove the rubber cup holder. It makes it a one person job much easier....for a quick fix.
Sell em both real quick. In 56yrs I never seen such a troublesome problem on any car. I got stuck in the middle of a bunch of fancy cars last night, aaarghhhh🤣 SO EMBARRASSING!!! 10 DOLLAR BUSHING MADE OUT OF PLASTIC.
Thanks my friend. QUESTION: THE CABLE BUSHING IS BROKE IN PIECES, when i hold it in place everything works properly, DO I STILL NEED TO REPLACE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY??? TY FOR EVERYTHING, YOUR THE BEST.
It has been a while since I had this apart. I bet there are no parts available for repair, but you can check. I wonder if you could find a good used one somewhere? (Like auto wrecker or Ebay?)
@unclemarksdiyauto ty sir, I ordered a 10dollar plastic bushing & drove the vehicle with no problems whatsoever. I held the cable in place while shifting from park to reverse etc. You helped me out my friend, BIG TIME!!! PEACE & STRENGTH TO YOU! edit>Was the bushing for the transmission cable.
TLDR: 2014 Chrysler 200 base is stuck in neutral. I hope you reply but your video did shed light on shift lock procedures... Thank you for your content. But, my 14' 200 (1st gen) is stuck in neutral. I drive the car as a daily commute for work (20 minutes either way) but isn't used for anything else (I drive the family truck, otherwise). There was a cold snap (in Florida) and warmed my 200 as normal. I drove all the way back home from work and as I was stopped in the parking lot and shifted to park, the dash read (Neutral) but the shifter was in park. Thanks again for your video because I was able to troubleshoot the issue, seeing as though the shifter cable is still taught and was able to move the shifter. It's still in neutral and I cannot find anything online about the issue. 78199 miles and properly maintained. Historically, I had reoccurring alternator issues having to replace the battery and alternator 3 times before it was fixed. (2022) Can you point me in the right direction? @unclemarksdiyauto
I wonder if the linkage has moved on the transmission side? Can you unhook it at trans and see if you can shift trans at the trans. ( vehicle parking brake on and car not running)
Probably a shift interlock module, (if that is your problem). You have to buy the whole shifter. You would have to test the electrics of it to see if it getting power when you apply the brakes.

It might not be connected under the hood. Or maybe the cable has broke. Be careful what ever you do.

Yep, they are interconnected. Cruise control issues can also stem through the brake switch.
