- Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer went head to head in the last live TV debate before voters go to the polls next week.

The two party leaders were questioned before a BBC studio audience in Nottingham, where a series of tetchy exchanges demonstrated that migration continues to be tricky ground for Labour politically. Sunak demanded to know what Starmer would do about asylum seekers who arrive in the UK by crossing the Channel in small boats. Starmer in turn said that illegal migrants 'can't go anywhere' as asylum claims were not 'being processed'

People always say it, the country is fine , the political see saw will continue and in 7 years people will be moaning about Starmer and everything will still be fine. Our country is great and stable. My Accounting supervisor is from UK.

The reason rent is up by 25 percent in the last 4 years is largely due to immigration.
We have a raise of 1.5million in 2 years. That's almost as much as the previous 85 years combined.
Think about how supply and demand affect prices and how an increase of 750k a year in people will affect prices.
This will be better than getting your views from someone else
It's not immigration causing that, it's unchecked capitalism. The UK has enough housing to house every single person in this country and millions to spare. Most of these flats and houses however are bought up by megacorporation real estates who hike the prices up to double the value because they know people are desperate for a roof over their head. If they could put a price on the air we breathe, they would, and they'd make it expensive.
Immigrants aren't the real problem, they're being used to direct the blame away from multimillionaire companies.

@@redshankyman4181rubbish. Price is set by Supply and Demand, 1st rule of free market economics. Demand has surged quickly due to uncontrolled mass migration, and supply has not been able to keep up. Therefore prices rise. Housing, services, just about everything. In 2023, we had a net migration of nearly 1 MILLION. We are a small island of less than 70 million, and that is a population increase the size of our 2nd biggest city, Birmingham.

I am not saying we fight wars purely for the protection of other citizens, but we definitely don't fight democracies and they seem to treat their people far better than any other system. So there seems to at least be a deterrent that Britain wont obviously put another democracy at risk in the name of resources.

Because it's farsical. "stop sending supplies to ukraine" says Iran. "recognize us as a nation and work to unfreeze afghani assets in the US" says Afghanistan.
