You can't go wrong with a good aperol spritz. Easy, takes 30 seconds, always have everything on hand. I add a bit of St. Germain to give it a sweet, floral touch.
I would love to see a full episode on sherry. An explanation of the different types and then a cocktail you would make with each type and why. Cheers 🥃
Going to be making this in a few minutes, looks fantastic! If you can, please make some cocktails with a blueberry syrup! I've been trying to create one over the last few weeks and I'm hoping you have some fun methods to incorporate it with rum or whisky! Always great watching your vids, thanks for the content :)
Ice was harvested in the winter from frozen lakes, then shipped and stored in large warehouses and insulated with straw or sawdust until needed. It would then be broken into smaller blocks and delivered to businesses and (wealthy) households daily. Even small farms would do this on a vastly smaller scale. A teacher of mine who would have been born in the 1930's told us about how she and her siblings would sit in the ice house on a hot day and push their feet down into the cool sawdust. In this case it would be a small wooden shed built over a deep pit so that the earth walls would further insulate and keep the ice from melting.
@@AndersErickson they taste like a cross between a cherry and a peach, so they permeate the whole drink with this creamy stonefruit flavor that pairs really well with sweeter sherries. They’re too high quality to waste on something like syrup, hence the muddling.
Honestly I am disappointed at UA-cam’s algorithm for just now recommending this channel. It has become my new favorite, good job you two 👍 thank to you guys I can finally do something with the Bacardi gold that has been sitting on my shelf, I’m making daiquiris with it per your daiquiri vid.
My wife's eyes lit up at this one, plus I also have Sherry left from Sangria. (Her current favorite drink from your channel after years of not being a fan of Sangria) On the list it goes! Great content, as always you two! 🍻
It's very frustrating, but around here the only curaçao I can find is blue. :( What would be the best substitute? Cointreau? Grand Marnier? Triple Sec with a sugar syrup?
@@AndersErickson It's Canada Day here!! It's beautiful out and this gorgeous Sherry Cobbler will be so amazing to sip on in the lovely sun!! Thanks Anders!! 🙂
I love your videos and have been watching or over 3 years now. I would love to see a bar tour / guide. I am moving into a new apartment and would like some visuals for my own bar :) thanks Anders!
Does anyone have any good red wine cobbler recipes. I need it for a menu but my manager is super picky and keeps saying “needs worked on” with every idea I bring up
Love that you follow up the Sangria with this one. That as a concept I think would be really great if you'd explore more. For the homebar crowd shelflife and using up syrups and stuff is always in the back of your head. Building on previous videos and "using up" stuff really makes it easier to follow along, so to speak. Now to the cocktail. I was certain I had oranges but, alas, I was mistaken. So I used lemons, paired with the curacao (Pierre Ferrand) and a dash of orangebitters to compensate I'd say it worked really well. Maybe maybe maybe a barspoon of simple could work to balance the lemon and general dryness of the dry Sherry I used and the dryer Pierre Ferrand. Gonna make it with oranges as well, I have a sip of Sherry left, but it wasn't bad with lemons. Not bad at all. Bright and summery indeed! Great video, as always! Cheers!
Discovered your channel about four weeks ago and I‘m just taking my journey through your backcatalogue and can‘t say in words how much I‘m enjoying this. Well researched and perfectly filmed fun. Pure fun!
Mr Erickson, you rock. Been watching you for a couple years and lately found out my adult son (who has the cocktail gene like his Dad) is also watching you. The maraschino is an interesting add to a basic daiquiri....will try it tomorrow afternoon. Slainte!
Hey Anders, love the video! I want to try it out but have never purchased a sherry. Can you make a video braking down what Sherry is, where it is from, and differences between the types? A beginner’s guide to sherry. Cheers!
Hey Anders, i plan on making Cocktails for my Grandmas 90th Birthday. So lots of people will attend. Could you make a video on how to come up with a good cocktail list for such an occaison and how to prepare for "service". Im thinking like you need that much Ice you need this and that. Would be really helpfull for me and im sure for others as well
Listened to your interview on Joiners Podcast this week while out for my run. So interesting to hear more of your story! Also, now I’m paying more attention to your hat and hair…which I was not previously 😂
I do have fresh mint and raspberries in the garden, however, not having any Sherry on hand, I'll sit this one out. Hmm.. In the future though, I'd request some cameo appearances from Az to assess these concoctions. 😂 Cheers!
This was definitely refreshing! I was afraid Sherry wasn't for me after not being a fan of the Sherry flip, I think I'm just not a huge fan of the combination of Sherry and egg. This will definitely be how i finish up bottles of sherry lol
Being a Marylander as soon as you added the crushed ice was thinking of snowballs. What would be neat is a boozy version of the classic egg custard Maryland snowball
I miss Az. I hope she’s OK. I hope the relationship is OK. Is she maybe pregnant and unable to consume alcohol? I’m sorry to be so impertinent. I’ve so enjoyed your collaboration. Please ignore the subject if it is painful.
What are some other favorite sessionable drinks for summer?
I hesitate to say anything because I feel like all the ones I'm thinking of are super obvious.

I think I speak for the majority of us, but I absolutely love the history portion of it. Hell I’d subscribe to a shorts channel on just the history
+1 on that!
I third this point!
Motion carries! The History of Cocktails with Anders Erickson is approved.
The history is pretty awesome, started reading the "Imbibe!" book he recommended in his book video, and it's fantastic.

I want to make a custom cocktail for my sister for her birthday in August - she loves blueberries. I'm trying all sorts of things at the moment!
As a proud owner of a pair of burgeoning blueberry bushes, I second this. Please give me good uses for my abundance of berries
Hello friends!
It’s Anders! 😊
I am curious to learn more about how ice was produced and sustained in bars in the 1800s 😅 cheers Anders and Az, for another classic cocktail!
The ice harvesting industry was fascinating. Impressive how far they could ship it from the source!

They stored it in caves and stuff too. There were some caves around my home town that were used for it.

Literally just put a Sherry Cobbler on my menu last night!
Ours includes muddled rainier cherries.
The Scherry Cobbler
I'd order that - cheers

TO THE BAR!➡️🥃
Hot as blazes in Florida...this looks like a perfect around the pool drink!
14th like… :-/
I have always wanted to make one of these so I know what I'm having after work.
Looks wonderful but the recipe omits the orange! Want to try this with Madeira,as you mentioned At the end.
What did that mint ever do to you...?
Maybe it just likes it 😏

What would be your recommendation be for balancing the sweetness if you’re using a PX Sherry base?
Speaking of sherry I was recently given a bottle of Croft pale cream sherry. Was wondering if it has any cocktail applications?

Hi Anders….such a beautiful drink…perfect for a July 4th bbq!!👌👌👏👏😁😁
Sherry since sangria… how lucky I am because I did 4 litters of it for my birthday party. So I simply use a whole bottle of sherry 😅
What kind of Mint do you use ?
Great drink. Great history. Great background jazz. ☺️
Is that a bear independent hat sir?

Calm drinking is good. An American drink a mere 40 odd years after America was a thing. A slushie
Random Simpsons quote popped into my head: "You smell like cobbler"
Curacao is a great idea. What an easy drinking cocktail.
Definitely a favorite. Cheers David!
So no dessert then? Hrmmm, a little disappointed, not gonna lie....
Me too
So, even then they liked a simple and tasty drink in the summer! I love food and drink history too.
I can now use up the open bottle of sherry that is in my fridge. Thank you.
This drink was not bad. The Sherry was, as you said, the dominant taste with hints of orange. I enjoyed it.
While we bear with you, does said bear have a coupe shaped nose?
That it does!
Damn it looks good!
Has the bear's nose always been a glass? The animation finally made me see it! 😅
My Viski order came in this week! Thank you for sharing with us ❤
Why not muddle the orange in the shaker???
Laziness. Definitely could muddle!
Wondering there's an easy swap for Madeira.
You left the orange slice out of your recipe in the notes
Got it! Thanks
Dang…running out for some sherry….
Ooo! Yum! Going out to buy some sherry!
I don’t drink but I love these videos 😭
Always a pleasure Anders. 🍹👌😊
Why do you not muddle the orange over a squeeze? Would that over do bitterness from the pith?
Both would work
