Can you imagine hearing this album for the 1st time on your record player when it came out? Fortunately I did. Such a great band and album.
My boyfriend bar manager and me took this album to another tavern to play because they had just gotten a new stereo system - and we immediately blew the speakers with School. Good times!
I can remember , it was a bloody long time ago and I was stoned :)
@@enforcer41Me too!
Supertramp were a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many great songs in the 70's-80's such as "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "It's Raining Again", "Give A Little Bit", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
So all this listed a great overview of this groups massive talent
All late Supertramp works. except "Give a Little Bit", perhaps because they were largely unknown in the US before "Breakfast in America" became a huge commercial success, but their earlier work (from "Crime of the Century" through "Even in the Quietest Moments") is FAR better than any of those songs you mentioned. Even "Give a Little Bit", although delicious to listen to, is the most commercial and least accomplished song in "Even in the Quietest Moments", a stunning album!
That whole album is fantastic. Every freakin' song is just amazing! And they're all related. "Rudy" is an epic, not too long though. "If Everyone Was Listening", "School". They're all great and beautifully arranged and production is top notch.
This entire album is great. They're a band with two very different songwriters. This is a Rick Davies song. You need to do a Roger Hodgson song next. "Take The Long Way Home" is great.
Take The Long Way Home is a vibe like no other 💕
I saw Supertramp for the Breakfast in America tour. It was the only concert I have ever been to where the entire crowd would sit down and shut up when another song started. No one wanted to miss a note. Fool's Overture from Even in the Quietest Moments album is phenomenal.
Crime of the century absolutely blew my fucking mind I first heard the albumn at 17 and it changed my view on life forever
And this isn’t even the most epic track on the album. Check out “School” (my favorite), “Rudy” and “Dreamer”. Killer album.
Two words: Fool’s Overture. Supertramp is highly underrated and actually not what most people think about when someone says “progressive rock.” Brilliant music; proper listening ✌🏻
I couldn't agree more.
People may disagree, but I've always compared Fool's Overture in a very similar class with Bohemian Rhapsody.
Although one is Rock-Opera and one is more like Rock/ Classical, they are such masterpieces and complex.
Both extended tracks ahead of their times by many decades and both studied by musicians in the industry as innovations.
Ridiculously talented band, Supertramp has a long list of must-hear songs that differ widely in style. "Give a Little Bit" is 12-string guitar gorgeousness and "The Logical Song" is just a whole range of experiences. Dive in!
Great band.. great music! Got to see then live in 1981 (yes I’m old).. they were amazing! (Pink Floyd like.. but different)!! Thanks for your thoughtful reaction - I’ll forward to you digging deeper into their catalog!!
Supertramp was very popular during the 70s. This is the first song I heard. I was walking out of a store and it was on the radio of a car in the parking lot. Bought the album the next day. Crime of the Century is their masterpiece. I saw them three times, 75, 77 and 79. The live version of this song on the Live in Paris concert DVD which is on UA-cam has an extended ending. Any song during that concert is worth a listen.
Love, love, love Supertramp. I like Fools Overture and Take The Long Way Home. Saw them a few times in concert. Like Yes and The Moody Blues, they sounded just like their albums: everyone of the musicians in the group were top notch. But like Pink Floyd (about the same time), one key player left the band.
WHEW! Your reaction and facial expressions are priceless!!! I wish there was a time machine to take you back to 50 decades of pure music and talent!!! No snowflakes no autotune no over industry production...IMO! I forget that this era was normal to me and now younger people are blown away! So many choices however will you decide!!! Loving your channel more and more! Sending love from Texas!!!
In my universe, this song is always preceded by "School", as it is on the album. ;-]
In fact, I recommend every single song on Crime of the Century... No exaggeration, it is to Supertramp what Dark Side is to Pink Floyd -- i.e.: The perfect album!
Supertramp are the masters of detail. The production work on their songs is nuts. Think of them as if Pink Floyd was more pop.
@coriandre7 That is a great description! And like Floyd, their albums deserve track by track listens - the songs seem to flow into each other.
Exactly!.
Is this your first Supertramp??? I thought you’d already done a couple of theirs. Ok, if not, do The Long Way Home or Goodbye Stranger, from their album Breakfast in America, or School, or the title song from their album Crime of the Century. Lots of great tracks from this band!
SUPERTRAMP, "BLOODY WELL RIGHT", This album 'CRIME OF THE CENTURY" Was great surprising sounds, and arrangements. More.. "SCHOOL", "CRIME OF THE CENTURY", "DREAMER", "LOGICAL SONG", "BREAKFAST IN AMERICA", "GOODBYE STRANGER", "TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME"..."IT'S RAINING AGAIN", "GIVE A LITTLE BIT"..
Crime Of The Century is an album album, rather than a collection of songs that you just pick and choose from. Go back to the first track and take them in order. This album is like Close To The Edge in way: some people think they improved on it but for me, this is their high-water mark. Nothing else was quite as good after this.
You're really cracking me up! I never fail to get a laugh and a smile with your reactions!!! Don't quit...ever.
Try "School " Give a Little Bit" " Even in the Quietest Moments" "Dreamer" " The Logical Song" :)
there isnt a bad song on this LP and a few great ones..."Crime of the Century" is AWESOME
Supertramp is 0ne of the most underrated bands of our time.
Their slbum Breakfast in America……..Iconic…. The Long Way Home, …..GOODBYE STRANGER …
It is amazing..….The Logical Song.
Sooo glad you’re getting into Supertramp. Between their LPs Crime of the Century, Crisis What Crisis, Even in the Quietest Moments and Breakfast in America, they do not have one bad song. 2 songwriters, 2 lead singers, 2 different styles of musical influences. High production values - musicianship is off the charts. Peace from Toronto!
Awesome talented band. You’ll love this. They’re production value is right up there with Boston. Long Way Home and Logical Song are musts. As far as your comment about the Beatles, you are correct: nothing you’ve reacted to or ever will react to would not exist without the Beatles.
The 70's rocked, man. Was a fabulous decade for all types of music. I saw Supertramp live twice and they were fantastic. Rudy was mindblowing live.
God I had the biggest crush on Rick Davies! You should watch this live in Paris! They have several songs from that concert and they’re all amazing!
Supertramp is such a great band. Not sure why they haven't been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Awesome musicians! Keep exploring them!
Loads of influences in theyre music blues swing jazz rock classic music movements etc great players great band enjoy my freind
Supertramp is a "Must Have" for any audiophile's collection, in my opinion. 😎
I still use my first pressing copy of Crime of the Century for system testing - simply incredible sound quality.
Oh my goodness, let Supertramp " School" you. : )
Before you mosey on to other albums by Supertramp, "School", "Dreamer" and "Rudy" from the Crime of the Century album are really worth a listen (in that order.) In particular, listen to how immaculately produced "Rudy" is... it's been a case study for others for decades! Actually, the whole album is great!
Supertramp is another group who had hit after hit! Can't wait for you to do more!! Have a great evening and thanks for your time. Your friends from northeast Florida
You are in trouble now that you have discovered the great Supertramp!!!!
Quite the rabbit hole ahead of you with Supertramp. Tons of material. The song ahead of this on Crime of the Century is "School", and it's my favorite from this album. Bloody Well Right made me buy the album, School turned me into a huge Supertramp fan. My all time favorite Supertramp song is "Child of Vision" from the Breakfast in America album. Pretty sure both School and Child of Vision will float your boat.
This was their first big hit that introduced us to their interesting musical proclivities. I think you're going to enjoy The Logical Song and Goodbye Stranger, if you enjoyed this one as much as it looks like you did.
I saw them live performing ‘Crime Of The Century’ in Bristol England. 1975? Mike Oldfield performing ‘Tubular Bells’ was the support.
Judging from your reactions so far, Supertramp is likely to make you weep with joy. Enjoy the deep dive. If you want to see what an epic symphonic concert performance by a a group of peerless musicians who know they are a BAND, and not a bunch of soloists who have to show off, watch Fool's Overture - Live 1979 Paris. The video aint superb but oh my, the music........ Modern day Mozart's
This was the most played song off of "Crime of the Century" on AOR US radio at the time. Significantly more successful outside the US, the album explores lyrical themes similar to that of "Dark Side of the Moon" but with a less dark, more melodic art rock-pop sensibility. The opener "School" might just be their best prog-rock song and the title cut has been called "the definitive prog-rock album finisher." In between those are great tracks like "Hide in Your Shell" and "If Everyone was Listening", with "Dreamer" becoming the album's biggest hit when it was rereleased after the huge sales of "Breakfast in America" and its hits.
I don't remember you doing it but you should hit Steely Dan sometime too. Maybe start with something like "Reeling in the years" , "Peg" or "Hey Nineteen", but definitely hit some of their other stuff: "Black Cow", "Babylon Sisters",
Supertramp is another mandatory staple - deep amount of greatness. That heavy section gives me Pink Floyd vibes with the guitar and vocal tones. MORE SUPERTRAMP - School is great and anything off Breakfast for America. Bloody Well Right is a masterpiece of soundgasms!
It’s emotional and uplifting to witness the minds of younger generations getting blown away hearing (the good) 70s & 80s music for the first time
Supertramp will take you on a musical journey!!!
Dig deep into the album "Breakfast in America". It has plenty to offer. Of note, give a listen to "Goodbye Stranger". They have a big catalog of hits.
ELO-Electric Light Orchestra is a must listen band since you like the Beatles and Supertramp. Supertramp has soooooo many great songs! Enjoy the journey!
Supertramp are the KING of Intros. They are Masters of Intros
Got some good outros as well
@@movenlaughwithnat9045 absolutely!!
So many great songs that are right up your alley. This will be one of your favorite bands. Guaranteed.
I don't know anybody who doesn't like Supertramp. I'm sure they're out there; not among my friends though.
WELL SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE NEEDS TO TAKE IN SOME OF THE GREAT EARLYYYYY PROGGY SUPERTRAMP MY FRIEND 😊 AND THEIR ONLYYYY CONCEPT ALBUM ( CRIME OF THE CENTURY ) STARTS WITH SCHOOL, GOES INTO BLOODY WELL RIGHT AND THEN INTO HIDE IN YOUR SHELL AND SO ON AND SO ON! 😊 ENJOYYYYY THIS GREAT PROG ROCK BAND SALVO!
Hide in Your Shell is my favorite song on this album. Not sure how to classify it as a song. It's epic for lack of a better word. Haunting and poppy at the same time?
Welcome to a new rabbit hole. I loved every album. Listen to "Even in the quietest moment"
I think "Rudy"
will blow your mind
saw them live in 1975 Southampton gaumont
Supertramp was a great band. You mentioned School, that would be a great one to check out. Also, they have a 10 minute opus called Fool's Overture that is worth checking out. They have tons of great songs.
Oh my goodness ‼️ I absolutely love this Era of music 🎶 🎵 😍 ❤
Any of the live stuff from the 1979 Paris concert is absolute fire. This rivals Rush’s 1981 Exit Stage Left. Goodbye Stranger live is awesome.
Supertramp Crime of the Century was one of the best concerts I ever attended.
You're going to love Supertramp. A deep catalog. One of my top 5 rock bands.
Child of Vision and Rudy are epic.
💯❤️👍✌️..as well produced, and talented as Steely Dan..please react to FROM NOW ON...Triple Dog Dare ya...lol...seriously though. Great reaction!
You won’t go far wrong with their albums Crine of the Century, Crisis What Crisis, Even In The Quietest Moments, Breakfast In America and Famous Last Words
School
Listen to Just Another Nervous Wreck, Supertramp..
Gotta check out Steely Dan
Just Another Nervous Wreck is my absolutely my favorite and I have never understood why is so underrated.
Wonderful band with so many gems! (I know you will love these guys) I KNEW you would like them. Layers of nasty and nice done so well.....and you will like them. A LOT.
The Beatles have a reason for everyone loving them. They blew rock and roll out of the water. Every band's favorite band! Experimental. AND I can not wait until you get your teeth into GENESIS again.
Supertramp is what I call, "Art Rock." Like Yes and Rush and Genesis along with the Beatles/////Art Rock!!!
I was smiling the whole way through. Best reaction🤣
thanks you for the post Sal, groovy reaction / your gonna love this group / a bunch of bangers 🕶
I bought the 45 (single if you prefer) because didn't have the money for the album at 14. Loved it so much. Played drums to it through my headphones until about wearing it out. Dreamer was on the B side which I liked also. But the version of Dreamer you want is off the live album. It made the charts from that live performance. These guys are, how you say, Bloody Well Right as a band.
More like SuperCHAMP. This band is off the charts incredible, and this is coming from a guy who knows less than HALF their songs, haha!
Now, you have to listen to the WHOLE ALBUM! Crime of the Century should be reviewed from start to finish, in order!
THE PROBLEM IS SO MANYYYYY PEOPLE THINK ( BREAKFAST IN AMERICA ) WAS THEIR GOOD STUFF, WRONGGGGG ANSWER CHARLIE! 🙃 NOT EVENNNN CLOSE TO THEIR 74 AND BEFORE STUFF SALVO! MY FAVORITE ALBUM WAS ( CRISIS WHAT CRISIS ) BUT YEAH, YOU NEED TO GO THROUGH ( CRIME OF THE CENTURY ) IF YOU CAN TRACK BY TRACK ON THAT GREAT STORY ALBUM 😊 PEACE MAN AND I'M GLAD YOU LIKE THE BEATLES, WHAT'S NOTTTTTT TO LIKE ABOUT THOSE GUYS! 😊
School
This is my favorite song by them the piano in the beginning, the guitar with wah pedal, then the silky smooth sax at the end make this so epic! "Take the long way home" (fantastic blues harp), and "Dreamer" (electric piano extraordinaire) would be next on "my" playlist, but you can not go wrong with any of their songs!
You should definitely react to the entire “Crime of the Century” album. Its a musical masterpiece and contains probably the greatest closing song in music history.
Thank you for posting this video... it makes me appreciate my vast collection of vintage 80's music
Your reaction to this song is priceless
Super tramp is awesome prog you really need to try more Genesis like selling England by the pound or wind and wuthering by Genesis I know you'll love it. Keep on rocking
Supertramp totally awesome!! Had all their albums, so many awesome sounds!! I love the 🎷!! Awesome reaction!!! Thank you for sharing this awesome video 😊💓🤘✌️
There is actually a good live version of this on youtube - I'm a bit torn on if reactions to the first time you hear a song should be like a radio/studio version like I first encountered, or the live version of songs. Often the live version can be very good with extended solos and stuff, often it can be worse recording quality and harder to understand and maybe not quite as good as the studio version.
Great catalog of albums as well awesome group ,logical song , dreamer ,Give a little bit ,overture and I might suggest Kansas album point of no return whole album ,song for america title cut another awesome live band every time live without fail
Great song to start your Super Tramp journey. Amazing band.
Supertramp is one of those bands musicians absolutely salviate over
You gotta listen to the whole album Crime of the Century so many great songs on this album. Enjoy your reactions.
Supertramp is great check out their Breakfast in America album.
This is my fav Supertramp song. It's so good!
Crime of the Century should be listened to as a full album. Maybe one day you can have a special and do that. They are the masters!
May sound like a broken record, but they just don't do it like this anymore.
The 70, 'a had the best music ever !
A quality largely UK based group, in their heyday they were superb live and luckily I saw them a few times. You should try Fools Overture a tour de force and a huge live favourite. Enjoying your reactions, you obviously have a great ear for top musicianship.
By far one of the most unique bands of the 70s. The 70s for the acts and bands was about distinct sounds and melodies to stand out. Supertramp was an incredible band so different but equally fantastic. Being old enough to remember when this band came on the scene I was blown away. Enjoy because you are in for a treat.
This is the song that introduced me to Supertramp, so it has a special place in my heart :)
The album Crime of the Century is a classic.
5:02 is the heavy metal part of this song. Did you see his reaction? He had to play it again its so great.
Take the Long Way Home is my favorite by them.
Great review! Love this song and this band!
What a great band! Always fun driving music. Full of sounds!
Now you are a "Tramper". Welcome to the club. :)
This the most amazing rabbit hole to explore, almost all of their output is worthy of a listen but the four albums ‘Crime of the century’,’Crisis what Crisis’,’Even in the quietest moments’ and ‘breakfast in America’ was one of the best sequences of album output by anyone ever. This is the music that headphones were made for.
I hope you continue with more Supertramp.
Goodbye Stranger next please!
Definitely need to hit The Logical Song
