- The Sangean ATS-909X2 AM FM LW Shortwave SSB AIR Band Portable Radio had many improvements over its predecessor. Expect Excellent FM, AIR, Shortwave, and MW reception with the on board antennas. The Auto Bandwidth control is handy on some signals that fade in, and out slowly. During this Evening Medium Wave Band Scan, I showcase how sensitive this receiver is on its own.

Overall, this is a wonderful receiver if yours does not ship with spurious tones. Of course adding external antennas will remove this. I'm a fan of the Larger LCD, Auto Bandwidth, FM, AIR Band, and the Upgraded Speaker. Rock on!

Agreed. I opted for the Tecsun H-501 and a smaller PL-368 just for backpacking. No competition here.
@@STR82DVD the PL 368/GP7 is a very unique and cool format factor.
It’s very sad because it is a very nice looking receiver and a lot of neat functions but really not tuned up or much quality to it. I’ve heard much about this particular radio and I will stay away from it. Thank you for your review and research on this receiver.

Can your radio be repaired by Sangean? Its too bad about the tone issue. If it was a 10 dollar radio it would be easy to grab another, but the Sangean is not inexpensive. It sure is a nice looking radio for sure.
I guess if i watched until the end, I would have known your sending it back. Lol . Too bad it has issues. Perhaps a x3 model soon that works and looks good. Thanks for the video!
Very strange. The tones issue you mention is not anywhere to be found on mine. Tried exactly what you did on MW and SW. Very odd. I’m wondering if you got a faulty example?
The FM and Air on this radio absolutely rocks! The air is as good as my scanner.
I agree, the AIR and FM bands are amazing. Mine has issues on MW for sure, a rare problem since most don't have this issue.

Hej Todderbert thanks for the bandscan but this radio is not for me personally I would recommend the Tecsun H-501x instead as I own a lovely radio take care ha en skön dag det är fint väder här änligen sommar.
I believe this is the first time I heard you mention the MLA-30 antenna. Do you have an opinion on it? Have you considered reviewing it? In regards to this radio, let's just say I would rather pay the extra money and purchase the PL-990 in a second.
I have the original MLA-30, and it is nice for SDR work. For radios, my little Kaito T-1 wire performs just as well on Shortwave.

I hate to say this, but my Sangean ats-405 seems much better on medium wave. This must be just a bad example. I do love the jog wheel and display on this though.
I guess I got a later model or better one .I like mine overall SSB isn't perfect but MW is as good as my Tecsun 501 x .

Does this mute when tuning?
No, it doesn't. Only receivers that depend on a DSP (radio-on-a-chip), such as the Silicon Labs Si473x will mute when tuning. Radios that mute while tuning include the Tecsun PL-3xx series and both the XHDATA/Sihuadon D-808 and R-108.
