@@byefelicia123 No, the 22' wires work just fine. You may opt to use the one they give you. You can also build your own long wire antenna with the adapter they provide as well.
Awesome review, as always. I'll be watching for them to get the issues worked out. C. Crane is just rown the road from me here in Fortuna, and i work with a guy whose wife works there. She's hooked me up before. Great people to buy from. They set up shop in what used to be the bowling alley. Small town business with small town hospitality. I always get stoked when you review another of their radios. Thanks for posting.
I am impressed with the quality of the product made by CCrane. I have the same FM transmitter you use. I can use my FM radio around the house instead of having to wear out the battery on my phone.
Hej Todderbert thanks for the video and the bandscan with new CC Skywave SSB 2 love it and how terrible the weather is in some states in the USA so much snow and freezing temperatures. We also have an awful lot of snow up north in Sweden and in Umeå where I live also much snow take care and have a nice day.
@@todderbert Hej Todderbert okej that is a relief that you haven't had as much snow as in New York or as in Buffalo yes it's cold here too right now minus 19 degrees in Umeå but Todderbert we have a red weather warning for along the coast where I live for Thursday evening. They say 20-30 cm of snow and strong winds burr I've been shoveling snow like crazy today because we have had a lot of snow before so I gonna stay inside and listen to my radios tomorrow. But have little to look forward to 3 new Sofirn flashlights that I have ordered are on their way deliveries will start picking up again after the christmas holidays the Sofirn's are Sofirn SC32, Sofirn SP10 Pro and Sofirn SP10V3.0 take care and stay safe Todderbert.
I got an orphan and just love it really I pick it up more than the Eaton elite thing and the pl 330 i also have a pl880 which is the best sounding radio on shortwave i have ever used But the skywave has so many bands it just is always handy
Since it's almost April do you think these issues have been fixed on the? Next. Production run and I also had a few questions that you did not go over in the video. Does this still do the weather alert function where you can go to other band I also noticed it was a bit slower at tuning presets when you had it connected to headphones. Was this resolved in the issues? That will be Fixed in the next production run. And were there any features removed from this one even though I don't think so? And finally does it still do that beeping noise in weather alert mode?
I enjoy the single side band ham chatters. On 7.200 mhz in the evening, you'll get some interesting "Jerry Springer Show" like action with Ham Clowns fighting cussing name calling making silly noises and everything else. And Todderbert, can you do a video on the 7.200 ham band and give us some of that entertainment? I'll have the popcorn ready. Lol
It’s worse down there in the 80 metre band. I’ve openly heard cursing and racial comments from “hams” in that band. This behaviour needs to be checked no on by the FCC or someone in their behalf. That’s almost worse than the so-called pirate broadcasters on over half of the spectrum.
@@chriswideman1218 there are several in the 80 meter band. They don’t seem to focus on any one frequency, unlike the one frequency in the 40 meter band @ 7200 kHz.
hello, thank you for your videos that I always watch, today my new diamond SONY ICF-506 arrived at your place, I saw the presentation and I fell in love with it so much that I bought one, it is a very nice radio and I am very satisfied with it, it has a strong and clear sound. thanks again for the videos. Happy New Year!!!
Great video! Real indepth. These radios have only a limited lifetime, not because the radio is bad. No, because traditional radio is on its way out. As much as I hate the idea, it is reality. Over here in Europe these type of radios hardly sell anymore. The main reason is the absence of DAB+, the digital replacement of traditional AM AND FM! Yes, FM as well. So portables like the one you tested now have DAB+ and FM, AM is no longer present in most models, no matter what brands. Is DAB+ an improvement? Not at all, it was already outclassed by internet radio the day it was introduced. All due to limited sound quality and, depending where you are maybe, lack of formats. And also the way UHF signals behave makes reception in many areas a hit and miss affair. DAB+ is nothing but a business model, governments gain a lot, the end users not at all. So do not be disappointed DAB+ is not available in the USA! So you see, different markets, different radios. That means if you do a lot of overseas travelling, the AM band is practically useless as nothing is on it in most European countries (unlike over here in Holland that is). Portable internet radios are now little by little introduced, Sangean has very good sounding models like the WFR-28BT that has built in Bluetooth. It also features DAB+ and FM, DAB+ is obliged by the EU. Whatever the case I don’t use it. Greetings , Willem, Hekelingen, Holland.
According to an email I received concerning the popping and hiss issues won't be fixed unitl the next shipment which is "expected sometime this coming fall".
I recently called C.Crane and talked to Daryl who answers calls, but mainly is in the Repair Dept. He said it is fixed. You will have to order from C.Crane direct to make sure you get the new one. There may be old stock on Amazon still.
I listen to FM on earphones when I take my daily walk with my CC Pocket. Does the Skywave require the telescoping antenna for FM or will it use earphones as an alternative antennae?

I'm sure we are headed to an all digital future in the States, since analog tv was taken away.

Thanks for the info
Nice. Is there another radio like this but with bigger speaker and/or can send to Bluetooth (eg ear-buds)?
Eventually. There are companies working on this.
Do you know if the issues are now fixed Nov 2023? Thanks

It uses the headphones as the antenna.
@@todderbert great! Thanks.
Why don't you usually use the antenna while you scan for better reception?
The whip antenna is for shortwave, fm, noaa, and air. Medium wave uses an internal copper coiled ferrite core antenna.
@@todderbert Oh! Thanks! Excuse my ignorance 😅
@@todderbert If you had to give the spot to one, which portable radio do you think has the best AM reception?
If it wasn't so badly made I might buy one. Look at that speaker grill. Yeeyuck!
Very intruging video.
It's too COSTLY.
