I bought the Yale Z-Wave smart lock on Ring's site ($220), but saw this video pointing out Ring's Z-Wave compatibility page. I ended up purchasing a lower cost Yale Z-Wave model as a result. Thank you - you saved me over $100 with this video.
Typing this June 2021; ring still hasn't put the icon on the main dashboard. I bought the Yale YRD256-ZW2-619 Yale assurance Lock SL with Z-wave and it was a pain to integrate it with the ring app. This video helped some but since the app & hardware has changed some, you are left figuring it out on your own. Thanks for the video; the only one here close to the product I bought from Amazon.

I found an open box Kwikset 914zwave for $89 on ebay and it's working great. Agreed that control through the Ring app is a PITA. Looking forward to the updates to come.

Another great review. Unfortunately I won't be using this feature until someone comes out with a smart lock that covers the turn knob lock and the deadbolt lock. I agree with 24/7 recording using too much bandwidth but if it's used on 1 or 2 critical coverage camera's, it could be worth it.
A lot of what I've seen are only deadbolts. It would be nice if there is one that can do both. Also, for it to know if the door is actually closed or open instead of just locked and unlocked. It can be locked but the door is actually open. As to 24/7 recording, you be better off with an NVR system or a PoE system that records in your home network and doesn't rely on the internet.
I've had Ring ever since it started and grew right along with it. I've recently discovered the more Ring devices you have integrated in your alarm system, cams, motion/door/window sensors, the more bandwidth you use. So, if your internet is performing slower than usual, do keep that in mind while streaming. I turn off the unnecessary devices during movie nights. Also, there are differences between the smart locks and what they work with and it is confusing. I bought the Connect deadbolt and I had to buy another device in order for it to work with Ring, pain in the butt and costly. Regretting all purchases at this point. One more thing, if your electricity goes out, you have to reconnect every time, another pain in the butt cuz we have PG&E and they seem to cut us off whenever the wind blows!

For those who purchased the yale YRD226 there is no learn button, when syncing with the ring app, add device and follow instruction but use the gear icon instead of “#” which the app says. Got me confused looking for the learn button and the #.
Thanks for this! Your videos are so informative. I went all in on the ring alarm system with cameras as well in large part because of your videos. I think the ring system overall is pretty good and by far the most Bang for buck in terms of the monthly subscription costs which is huge over the long run. I’m so glad that they are developing the z-wave integration more so that you can truly be a hub. I was betting on them doing this as I add more devices over time to make my home smarter. Finally glad that locks are integrated, even if it’s clunky right now.
Man, times changed since last time I messed up with z wave on Honeywell tuxedo 5 years ago running between panel and device. I need to see if older z waves can migrate to ring, and more importantly the expensive job of the main water valve z wave
Lifehackster, I have a specific scenario in mind for the ring alarm with 2zwave locks. With the ring alarm, can I set up the alarm to unlock one specific door when the system is disarmed by a specific user? I want zwave locks on my front door and garage entry door, but I want the ring alarm to automatically unlock the garage entry door when I disarm the alarm, but not family, friends, or guests. Is that granularity of control available with ring alarm’s zwave lock integration?
Just a suggestion. For your videos just use a generic code (1234) for demonstration purposes. It is pretty easy to tell the lock code in the video is 2817 or 3 other possibilities from your hand positioning.
Does your door lock disarm the alarm when you enter? (I'm Switching from a ge z wave setup that's 40 a month.) If you covered it in the video I missed it. Thanks for continuing to make cool update videos.
Do you have any experience with Alfred Z-Wave integration with the Ring System? Is there any real benefit to buying a Z-Wave lock at all at this time if they are burying the lock controls deep within the Ring App? The only benefit I can see is being able to simply lock the door on the keypad when you leave and have the door lock and the Alarm system arm with one step but I don't think this is possible yet is it? This video is 3 years old and still no real integration with the Ring Alarm and Locks? If not I ill choose the Wi-Fi version for less $ since both can be integrted ith Alexa/Google anyway and the lock companies' app is most likely simpler to get to. Thanks for the great videos

I'm not sure yet with the Ring battery spotlights. I have no issues with lag and choppiness now but it seems like the cool off period is not what I wanted it to be. I need to test it some more...
Whereas if one has a window/door sensor installed with their Ring security system and one of this sensors were to be tripped (while armed), Ring notifies you of the alarm and which sensor created the alarm. However, if one integrated a deadbolt, z-wave lock into their Ring security, armed the system and the deadbolt lock was breached, Ring would not send an alarm; it would only advise that the deadbolt was opened. Not a secure system. Has Ring fixed this issue?

Great video I don’t know if you know this but Amazon now owns all of Ring . I found this our because I am having to replace my Lowe’s iris’s home Alarm Iris will be closing March 31-2019 . I have been reading about a new door lock to add to my Ring alarm system I called ring to ask about the kwikset 916 zwave I was told it will work on the Ring system and that when unlocking the dead bolt it will turn off your ring home Alarm and you will be able to use Alex to lock and unlock with a pin to (unlock only) it’s starting to make sense now that Amazon own Ring that it will Be Alexa friendly . But from what I am understand you will have to have a echo that has a hub like the echo show or you can get the 3 gen echo spot see when i order my ring home Alarm system Amazon gave me the echo for free but I did some more research and found out that the Ring door bell 2 has a hub in it . I went back a week later to order one more door sensors . The new Ring home Alarm set up now adds the 2nd gen ring door bell. The 3 gen echo is on back order I have had the Alarm for 3 weeks now and the echo will not be here till March 5 2019 . So after watching you video it all came together for me . I wanted to add the lock maker do they have a app that will allow you to unlock the door when you get close to the door like some of the others .

My Yale door lock is exactly the same as that but I had it when I had AT&T as my alarm. I tried to follow this video but my app cannot detect my lock when I tried to add it to my Ring account. Any advice? Please?
Is there a way to control an in wall light switch (example: Leviton DD0SR-1Z) thru the ring alarm base when a Ring floodlight camera detects motion? I want to slave my patio lights when camera detects motion
At this time, there is no integration between the alarm and Ring's cameras aside from sharing the same app. I am pretty sure an update is coming in the near future for full integration.
@@LifeHackster I was able to turn an Indoor Fan light (using Broadlink RF) when the Floodlight camera detected motion, I used Alexa Echo Routine. I wonder if I can do the same if I install an in wall switch Z-wave supported (thru Ring Alarm base). If Alexa can see the in wall switch then I will say it's possible. I'll keep you posted with results.
Since i uploaded this review, I haven't charged my keypad yet. It still has some battery left. It just started saying the battery is low about a week ago.

I have the Schlage Connect Z-Wave Deadbolt with built-in alarm model BE469 that is listed as compatible on Ring.com, but they're saying I have to have the alarm to make it talk to my Ring Doorbell Pro. Why can't I just connect it using Z-Wave thru my Samsung Smartthings? This makes no sense. Apparently, it's coming soon, but when?
I connected mine without any configuration to my Ring doorbell (which wasn't connected at time of install). Just go with the setup and see if it connects.

I want to be able to unlock my door straight from inside the ring app. After speaking with a Ring rep, my understanding is that function isn't available at the moment unless I have a Ring alarm installed. There is no option for locks under "set up a device" in my Ring app. Can you clarify?

You have to set it up through the alarm - >security devices -> Locks. To access it, go to devices, -> Alarm base station -> locks. I found it easy to access the locks if you have Amazon Alexa.
Can you try more z wave devices. Another UA-camr tried the ge door sensor but said it wouldn’t trigger the alarm, only trigger the chime. I hope that’s not really the case.
As to the alarm sensors, The Ring alarm will only work reliably with their sensors at this time. They might open it up and integrate with other zwave devices in the future like on what they did on the locks.
So I did see a video where some one was able to add a GE door sensor by clicking pair Manually and it was able to connect but didn’t set off the alarm if triggered. Hope ring adds that feature soon.

Ring will definitely need to update the user interface of the door locks...it is just a hassle right now to lock and unlock from the app.

You can use a 9 volt battery which you can connect at the bottom (terminals) and the keypad will turn on for you to input the code.
Anyway to set an 8 digit alarm code? Don’t see it in the app. Hope they add that.

For me the most important integration would be auto-locking when Ring knows the door has been closed for X seconds (via contact sensor).

Being that Ring doesn't offer a glass breakage detector will another brand z-wave glass breakage detector work with the Ring Security System?
Are you limited to a four digit code? Also, how many codes can the lock support. As I recall, most of these locks are limited to 20 or less.

Yes..ring eventually made an update that now you can unlock the door and you also automatically disarm the system..
Yea, I installed the lock today. It does disarm the alarm. No Amazon Key is necessary.

So I did see a video where some one was able to add a GE door sensor by clicking pair Manually and it was able to connect but didn’t set off the alarm if triggered. Hope ring adds that feature soon.

Are you able to program it to disarm the Ring alarm whenever you unlock the Yale lock?

I recently switched from AT&T Digital Life to the Ring Security System. Can you reset the Yale lock to be compatible with Ring?

It would be awesome if the alarm disarmed automatically as soon as you entered the pin number on the lock.
I just installed a Schlage Connect and Ring said it couldn't update the access code :(
Contact Ring's customer support. Also, the alarm and the locks are Alexa integrated. I still need to check it out.

lol the navigation to lock/unlock the door is a joke. also should include an option to lock/unlock the door when arming/unarming the alarm.
