It takes a good man to stop and can like you been doin, but like they say, "ya gotta make hay when the sun shines". Or maybe as Justro says, "ya gotta can mater soup when the maters are ripe!" What a blessing this will be when the snow flies. Happy labor day Justro and God bless America and let freedom ring. 🇺🇲❤️😁

Thank you for good video and the recipe. I like your method of canning that is cool. My uncle used to can and he would put up tomatoes and put one teaspoon of salt to each quarter of tomatoes Harriet his wife was blind so he did a lot of the canning have a happy day friend😂❤❤❤

That is some yummy looking soup, Justro. Thank you so much for sharing your Mom’s recipes. She must have been an amazing cook. I like watching you cook cause you don’t waste a drop and you scrape all of the food out of your bowls. I always cringe when people leave a bunch of food behind when cooking.

I'm making this delicious soup! The ingredients are wonderful.
Yea, a grilled cheese sandwich goes great with it but I'm switching it up with some crusty toasted garlic butter french bread 😋
Between your soup, coffee and chocolate break, you're making me hungry! I can go for this any day ... not just a cold, winter day!

There are a lot of food mills similar to the Foley on Amazon, but something to be aware of is the placement of the support tabs on the side. Many of the food mills offered have the tabs high up on the sides, which causes the food mill to sit deeper into the bowl, leaving little room for your strained product in the bowl. There are some with the tabs closer to the bottom of the food mill, which allows it to sit higher above the bowl than the others. If you order one from Amazon, just pay attention to this detail, or you may have to plan to use a bowl or pan with more depth with your food mill.
It's not a big deal, but something to be aware of if you're ordering one.

Hello: I like your videos! I'm new here so it's good to find good information.
I take my tomato skins and dry them up, put them in a jar, and when I need just a little bit of tomato flavor, I use a tablespoon or more to bring my recipe to perfection. Also, I use the pulp of the tomatoes I've put through the food mill, dry it in a dehydrator and then use it to again, flavor some recipes.

We put a pot of hot water on the stove and put several maters in it at a time until they split, or loosen, then transfer to cold water in the sink. We then peel and remove bad stuff and I run them thru a food mill on my meat grinder. Seeds and skins exit the end and the pulp and juice come out the side. I run the skins and seeds thru a couple times to extract everything I can.

I grind it up and use it for seasonings and to thicken tomato soup, sauce or whatever needs thickening. I put it in rice to cook or anything else you like it on or with!!! If you throw your tomatoes in the freezer as they're coming in till you have enough for a batch of whatever you want to make, after they defrost, the skins slip right off without the scalding process. Makes things simpler!!

Loved your soup recipe. I have been canning for over 50 years and have never made tomato soup and I love tomatoes. I can not hardly cook a meal without tomatoes. My altitude for canning is only 66ft above sea level so I use 10lbs with pressure canning. I have always water bathed my tomatoes. My question to you is will this process work for my altitude? Not pressure canning or water bath canning would be great if it would work at 66 ft. above sea level.

I don’t bother even trying to seal the jars in this house. We have used about 6 quarts of this soup in recipes over the last 3 weeks or so. It’s so good😁👅

You had boiling water, but it cooled off too fast before the peels got really loose. They should slip right off in your hands. I didn't have a food mill, so I heated tomatoes in microwave and put through an UltraBullet. Done in seconds! I keep mater soup homemade and home canned for winter time. Yep, I've dried my mater remains and ground to powder. It's wonderful in soups, spaghetti, whatever! Takes forever in the oven. Better outside with triple digit temps and here in far north, dry, dry California. In your humidity? No. Keep in oven. Oh, for your soup, you're just making a rue for thickening. So different than my recipe. . .but yours is tasty!

we love this recipe but i have a question, my wife is new to canning and was told this is not a approved method and would have to add acidity like citric acid or lemon juice and she was told flour and butter only in approved canning recipes
we by no means are questioning you just confused and trying to learn
thanks for your videos and God bless

its not an approved, tested method. it falls under what most call 'rebel' canning... lol. it is recommended to add acid for tomatoes and no dairy or flour is approved for any type of canning, but its done in a lot of places. its basically up to what risks you'd take for your family! still seems like a good tasting soup recipe! :)
