Not sure if someone else already commented, but the Menendez brothers told their older cousin and other family members starting in the 1970s. The brothers recounted how when they were little and back at their old home (Midwest? East Coast?) their older girl cousin came to visit and they asked if they could stay in her room and told her they were being molested and scared to go to bed in their own rooms. The older girl cousin confronted Kitty and Kitty never let the boys see her or have her over and they were in trouble after that. They boys reached out to others at least a few times but no one helped them. I believe them.

@@TRUST_IN_CHRIST I agree that what they did was not morally correct. But if you take in different perspectives you can understand how they felt at the time. Their mental capacity was of an 8 year old. They were suffering from severe mental health issues and trauma.
Everyone deals with abuse in their own way and of course what they did was wrong, and even they accept that. They themselves regret the very actions they took that night, so there is no need to compare their situation with yours or anyone else's. People suffer in different ways and cope with their trauma in different ways. So there is no need to compare them.
To call their actions demonic but not acknowledge the severity of their parents actions which led the brothers to killing them is wrong.
While calling their actions demonic, its important to recognise that what their parents did to their own children was even worse..
Killing someone is of course wrong, but sexually and emotionally abusing, raping and manipulating your sons, threatening them, emotionally neglecting their needs, making fun of them is even worse. This is what led to their tragic deaths as they caused trauma that their sons now have to live with, whilst they got an easier way out and are now resting peacefully.

I've researched this case in every detail . As a woman i have to admit this case is literal proof of how much men get discriminated against also , not just women.
I remember the case beeing covered back in the day ,i was very young. At the time everyone was talking about it . And everyone made it into a joke , as in yeah right they got abused .
People literally didn't wanna hear their story of abuse and made fun of them pretty much . If they were women things would have gone much differently.
If a father raped his little girls their whole life , I'm sure everyone would have absolutely understood why they did what they did .
I hope they finally get freed . The only injustice in this case is what happened to the two boys .

As far as I know, the brothers' father went to live in the USA when he was a teenager, but his nationality at birth was Cuban. I am Cuban, and I have lived all my life on the island; when I was about 19 years old I first learned of the frequency with which cases of incest, involving pedophilia, occurred in my country.
It was through a neighbor who was already an older woman at the time and who took care of her mother... however, it was obvious that she resented it, I was fond of her because she was very kind to everyone, so I did not understand the dynamic with her own mother. I think one day she must have seen my bewildered expression because it was then that she told me in an aside what she and her sisters and brother suffered from the unspeakable abuses to which their father subjected them, and that this was the reason that all of them left as soon as they turned 16 - that is the age of majority in Cuba - and that eventually only she remained in Cuba. My neighbor married at 17, had a son, was widowed at 25, and never married again, devoting herself to her only son until he too emigrated. It wasn't until she was about 45 that she first went to a therapist, and to her surprise and my horror, she was told that her case was much more common than she imagined and that it was amazing how well she had done on her own without having gone to seek help first. Still, when she found out that her mother had cerebral ischemia, she took her home and took care of her. By the time she told me the story, two of her sisters had committed suicide, and the brother, as she learned from his son, was homeless and addicted to who knows what. After crying like a baby, I could only hug her and tell her that she was probably one of the strongest and most upright people I had ever known.
A few days ago I learned that she had passed away, she lived more than 8 decades, and I only hope that her spirit gets all the light and peace that she deserves.
Personally, for me pedophiles are murderers, they kill the person that could have been, and turn them into someone who needs to constantly remind themselves that not everyone around them is a monster.

@@michellesassouni2863 When Cuba was "proclaimed" as a Socialist State, even if there was no referendum or any form of election, that condition included the doctrine of the "new human": that new species that was established by decree did not conceive of any member of the new society as being imperfect. The solution they found was that all the press, all the companies, EVERYTHING, including the inhabitants, became the new State's property. They were not very original, they only copied the model that already existed in what was then known as the socialist camp, with the U.S.S.R. pulling all the strings.
When the State is the only voice and the owner of all the words, television, and the press only talk or write about how wonderful our life is. There is no talk, or writing about robberies, murders, rapes, abuses, NOTHING! Because the "new human" cannot be anything other than perfect.
Our prisons have multiplied, and I understand that there are more inmates than space, but that is not talked about.
A singer dared to say in one of his songs: "Everyone wants to live in the News, nothing is missing there, not even money."
But here we have an unwritten law of silence that goes back hundreds of years: What happens at home, stays at home. They only took advantage of a pre-existing circumstance.

When the mother spoke of hating them she also spoke of how they took her husband away from her. This child hatred is actually fairly common with mothers who become jealous of their victimized children. Looking at them as rivals rather than innocent victims. It can be the most painful part of these crimes for the child or children involved because they always hope their mother will protect them and believe them. That emotional betrayal that takes place with their own mother turning on them in fits of jealousy, and watching as it happens without stopping it and protecting her children is often described as being more painful than the sexual abuses going on. It stays with the children forever.

In the state of California, even in situations where somebody admits murder to their therapist, the therapist still must keep it confidential or they can lose their license and face legal consequences. The only reason why 1 audio tape was even admissible is because Ozeil claimed he felt somebody’s life was in danger (his own) because he claimed Lyle threatened to kill him if he told anybody. However, Ozeil’s mistress (who Ozeil called to sit in his office and eavesdrop when Lyle arrived to the office after Erik confessed) stated that she never heard Lyle threaten Ozeil at all. It was widely believed that Oziel taped the confession because he was planning on blackmailing the boys for $14 million.

Crime Weekly (edited to correct my memory) reported that Kitty would often threaten to kill the whole family, and occasionally it would lead to Jose throwing out an entire meal that she cooked and taking them out to eat. Between that and the abuse - which often comes with threats to keep quiet, I wouldn't be surprised if the boys did legitimately fear for their lives.

A child of socially prominent parents won't easily seek help outside the family, because the chances they'd be believed or anyone acting against a rich & powerful couple are slim. The boys probably always felt they had nowhere to turn. I had a long career as a journalist here in South Africa, and some colleagues on the case of Charlize Theron's mother (who confessed to killing her abusive husband in front of their daughter) didn't believe at all that it was the mother who did the shooting. Hell, culturally we are just barely barley beginning to accept boys are often victims of sexual abuse. Late 80s and 90s?? Hellz no, with powerful Beverly Hills parents? They would not be believed. Their only way to escape the abuse was to kill in self defense. If they were girls?? They would've been lauded as heros.

Erik is married and a step father. The announcement yesterday was that it's being reviewed and they are deciding about release or a new trial for the brothers because of new evidence plus a review of all of their past evidence (they had over 50 witnesses testify on their behalf). Kittys therapist also talked about her mental illnesses, her substance abuse etc. A member of a band, Menudo, that their father was involved with has also made SA allegations against Jose. Erik has stated that he did try running away but they took him home and made threats. There is new evidence to show that he did tell a cousin in a letter when younger. It was testified that Lyle had also told a friend that he and Erik were abused about 4 months prior to what happened. We always look at nature vs nurture in terms of how children grow and develop and the brothers growing up to do what they did? Nature? Well, clearly mental instability ran in the family and those things can be genetic. Then you can look at nurture for the 2. If they grow up abused as badly as they were (which IS believable when people look at all of the evidence including what was in their childhood medical records such as 7 yr old Erik going to the emergency room for injuries deep within his throat and so forth that align with abuse/SA in children) then we look deeply into their nurture and say the way they were nurtured had a deep impact on them, as it does any child. You grow up manipulated and abused? It will change the way your mind develops at every stage of development. (Another note, Eriks learning difficulties were ignored by his parents and not addressed as teachers wanted). The therapist actually was still supposed to keep things confidential per the law unless he felt directly in danger or that someone he knew was in danger. He wasn't the one that went to police initially, it was his ex gf who was a patient of his in which he carried on an affair. She originally went to the police to say that he had kidnapped and SA her and then everything spilled out leading cops to search Oziel and demand the recordings. You touched on the father having extra marital affairs and why would someone doing that abuse their sons? Power. Everything was about power. SA is almost always about POWER and a power hungry man constantly in the position of being in control and being powerful and taking the power from others? Well, that's a recipe for disaster. Children are the easiest victims and most children who are abused or SA are abused by a relative or someone close to the family. They are easy targets. Just like domestic violence victims who fear leaving their spouses, child abuse victims are often the same way. Leaving is also the most dangerous time for victims because their abuser risk losing their power and risk their secrets being exposed. Back when the brothers would have been abused and a lot of family members had an inkling to something awful happening, people still had a don't get involved mind set. Don't tell parents how to raise their kids or don't get involved in issues behind closed doors. Only in recent years has the fight for believing victims picked up ground. Only 2-10% of SA allegations are falsely made so we are looking at 90+% of all allegations holding truth.
The women on the separate juries for both brothers original trials all pretty much went manslaughter. Men went murder 1. Men tended to believe males could not be SA or could have stopped it. That ignores the manipulation and emotional and psychological aspects of the SA. The 2nd trial appears to have had bias against the brothers from the judge who was also the judge in the original 2 trials. He banned a lot of the defenses case in terms of the SA from making its way into the 2nd combined trial. The brothers family heavily supports them and backs them and the allegations.
We all know they did it, yes, but if what they say is true? Then manslaughter is the fair conviction. The law has greatly struggled in believing and helping SA victims and keeping domestic violence victims safe and sometimes victims take the law into their own hands. Any of us who are parents have to think, what would we do or at least want to do to someone who did those things to our children? Would we blame our children for doing that to an abuser? We also look at her children and it's unfathomable to think of doing those things Jose is said to have done. Personally? I believe the brothers because I think they provided enough evidence to at least give reasonable cause to believe it all. I would like to see them released.
As for why women are attracted to "bad guys" so to speak, it's in a way in our genetic make up. Women are natural care givers, we lean toward want to help or wanting to fix what we see is broken. A criminal? Oh ok he's a bad guy or he's broken..so let me love him until he's better, I can fix him - that's kind of the mind frame. Also, it gives women excitement to be honest. So I am 40 yrs old and I studied special education & psychology as my majors and minored in studying criminal law so I research cases like this for fun because it aligns with my interest. I can also admit even with all of my education and clean cut way of life, I too fell for the bad boy (oops lol) and he's now serving a 20 year sentence. I also have a cousin serving life+ for taking the lives of multiple women and he was a power hungry monster who deserves everything he gets. He was violent very early on in life and continued on with violence. The system failed by releasing him early for a r*pe conviction. He is one of those people that was born evil. His nature was to be evil. His nurturing played no role in who he became. I say this so I can make a clarification that I am not a sympathizer with those who k*ll (I don't know if youtube lets us use the world) but I can empathize with victims and people who feel pushed too far. I 100% empathize with the brothers and I don't view them as bad or evil. I don't view all criminals as bad people. I view them as individuals. Some are evil. Some just made mistakes. Some were pushed too far and so on and so forth.. Those are all my views. And I have a lot of them LOL

Thank you, Michael, for speaking about this case & your personal experience with Eric & Kyle. I am Australian & was living in California when this all happened. I remember how the brothers flashed around their money after the murders & thought their accusations of sexual abuse by their father, was all made up. After listening to your thoughts, I do feel there is truth in those accusations, now. As you said, not that it’s an excuse for murder, but it certainly helps to shed the light on….WHY?
I respect you & your wisdom. Also, I appreciate you speaking of all those people that have been let into the country, & some of the criminals that are now unaccounted for. This worries me greatly. I still have adult children & young grandchildren living in Northern California. It’s a scary time for the US & most of the world, at the moment. God Bless.

I do appreciate your assessment of the Menendez brothers and sharing your experience with them in the time that you were in the same section of prison. I'm going to watch the Netflix show however I'm definitely sensitive to the fact that the guys didn't seem to think it portrayed them accurately. So I'll take it with a grain of salt.
I do believe their story or stories and I understand why they did what they did in spite of it being heinous and unacceptable. It is a different world today. They would be believed had they lived in 2024 at the age that they were. They could have reported their father and hopefully have gotten some type of serious criminal penalty for his behavior. I do think that their sex was held against them in terms of being males in the situation. And that should never happen. Males can be vulnerable too. It must be recognized and these guys have served their time. Give them lots of emotional and counseling support and let them out to continue their lives. Hopefully they can claim some portion of their inheritance if it still exists. I do believe that they earned it, by virtue of their parentage by the way, and for the fact that they survived such brutal parenting especially from Jose, the breadwinner, but from Kitty too.

Mr Franzese’s navigational skills are impressive and instructive to me. In telling us the story of the Menendez brothers’ murders he also shows tremendous people skills and a spot on mental perspective-imparting true wisdom in how to deal with people and situations in one’s own life. Good stuff

Just found this and subscribed. I read Michael's book a long time ago and have known who he was for many years. I've always found him to be a very honest and upfront individual. He's also a great patriot and loves America!

We should not judge the two young men - They did tell their family, but everyone idolized the father. The aunt admitted she was blinded by the “worship” of the father by friends and family. That level of abuse can make people disassociate and act crazy - look what Diddy was allowed to do because of fear

You’re missing what most people miss. Including myself years ago. They could NOT go any other way because they told their father they were going to out him and jose threatened to kill them. If they ruined jose life and made kitty look even that much worse they would never allow that. They meaning jose and kitty. Thus was the 80s. Times were way different and casting couches were a daily thing. No one would’ve listened to the brothers then. They would’ve been betrayed as liars and been shunned by the entire town. And they would be no better off , maybe worse

They went to prison for over 35 years they've done the time especially with the 50+defense witnesses and all the sexual abuse, I agree with going to prison but not life sentence with no chance of parole, Child kidnappers/molesters get not even 20 years absurd, and people are pressed they would get out after 35years instead of all those repeated offenders that pose the real threat to their society not these brothers. The fact the whole family stood behind the brothers and not the parents proves it wasn't made up. The people who believe they should rot in jail have only seen that show where the director hasn't even gone and talked to the brothers and not the hours upon hours of the trials (granted not everyone has the time to look thoroughly but they don't have a problem spewing hatred and nasty things to people who have, you don't know everything yet you pretend you do) People should be glad those parents aren't around anymore, Also medical records of the brothers with horrifying bowel and throat injuries and infections. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

It's not ok to murder your parents..... However when you're sexually abused your child you pretty much murdered them out of a normal life. There is no amount of money that can fix that pain.
