Yes, mid to late summer according to what my local dealer said. I ordered the 2 door S5 coupe 2 weeks ago since i don't plan on carrying passengers in the back seats. the wait is already killing me:D
I think you should make mention that the sunroof opens fully now. I think a lot of people didn't realize that it only tilted in the previous generation and now it completely opens as well as tilts now.
I'm sure the majority of the people in the comment section criticizing this car, never had no intentions on buying it anyways and can't even afford it. Also probably never driven an S or Rs model Audi, just talking shit because yall can.
I own a 2016 S4 and was planning to upgrade to another S4 in 2 years but not sure now (no supercharger or DSG), although I like the interior more than my car.
***** Nice! I like the look of the 2016 s4, I own a s8 and I absolutely love it. Yeah the Dsg is a good transmission and since I never driven the s4 and s5 without it I wouldn't know if its an upgrade from the Dsg. Well I would like to believe that Audi know what its doing on the 2018 model transmission.
I think they are transitioning the S4/S5 to a more "sporty" luxury car --- nothing wrong with that but I prefer a bit more sport and the old S4/S5 seems more tilted in that direction.
JosephM1750 yes you are correct. This s5 seems to be all luxury with a dash of sport. Well I always been a flagship lover and own a s8, d3 a8 and a Bmw 750li so the closest to sporty I got is my s8 which is very capable. So I assume Audi are going to get more aggressive with the Rs models, since they seem to be going more in the luxury direction with the S models.
Kevin Allen right? I remember when the Chevy Vega returned 23 mpg at 6o mph with a zero to 60 time of about 8 seconds, out of a rough running 4 banger...we've gotten spoiled to the kind of refinement, performance and value of new cars
Not really impressive. BMW 4- series 435 and 440 do exactly the same years ago. They have less horse power but max torque starts at like 1500 rpms and does the same 0-60 without breaking wallet on gas. And they can do it with manual stick shift too. I was planning on buying new generation of S5, but since they don't offer stick shift... wtf am I going to do with stick shift on A5? no kick, no fun, stick shift is just pointless. :/
In a car like this, I wouldn't mind the traditional automatic. Dual clutches, while faster always felt a bit lurchy at low speeds around town. I'd always take a 6 speed manual, but you're other video kinda hit it on the head that a manufacturer needs to build cars for its actual consumer that spending upwards of 60k not just auto critics. I loved the idea that we'd all be driving manual 12 cylinder trucks and miatas and nothing in between.
Love the S5! I still will nit-pick the issue ( to me anyway) of the non-retractable center screen! It would really clean up the aspects of the dash design to me.
pretty sweet car, I feel like the S4/S5 are a nice comfortable car that's quick enough to be entertaining. i think they LOOK sportier than than they actually are, though. interior is very nice on these cars.
I had the previous Audi S5 and loved it - the biggest thing for me will be the loss of the V8. You can't drive a car like this at 10/10ths or even 9/10ths on most roads without encouraging the attention of the Plod, so for me it was more about style, day to day performance and 4WD security, plus that V8 growl. I'm contemplating getting one of these......but i just hope i'm not let down. Oh and i'm also looking at the Mercedes E43 AMG Coupe which has a bit more space but really poor boot opening for my snowboard!!
Dual-Clutch Transmissions aren't manuals. I've owned dual clutches and the modern Torque Converter Automatics are actually better. There's a reason why Dual Clutch transmissions haven't replaced traditional autos. And that is because they are loud, clunky, and jerky in low-speed situations. After driving an M135i with a modern torque converter auto, I realized that Dual-Clutch trans aren't' necessary. And this was while I had an EVO X MR that has a Dual Clutch trans so I had a direct comparison.
A good review 👌 I own one of these and I felt proud ! Until the end lol 😆 I love my car 🚗 if anyone is thinking about buying one ...your already missing out
i could not agree with you more. the manual transmission should be in this car. sure the auto is faster but its all about the big smell you can get when you can work the gears
I am offended by his lies about the dual clutch. Also, it does not give the "same great sounds." The obnoxious burble of a dual clutch in the old S5 is gone.
you don't buy an s5 for the comfort, you buy it for out of factory sportiness, hence the 2 doors, s badging, sport everything, aggressive styling, etc. please throw the DCT in.
Audi/VW's turbo dual-clutch cars are SO sluggish off the line, I wonder if the auto trans solves that. If so, great! Don't even try to say, tho, that a car with its entire engine ahead of the front axle line drives like a RWD car.
J Segal OUR MVP, specially the engine completely in front of the axle line bit. It's like taking all the "benefits" of a 911 and putting a "negative sign"(heavy engine) in front of it.😳
My S5 2018 is just awesome, however the way i drive and driven all my cars i can only make 12 MPG.And that is not on sport mode.I had A6 2015 2.0L and 220HP and was doing 15MPG,even driving slow.So there is no such thing as 21MPG as Audi states(in city). I think if i drive only on sport(dynamic) mode i would never be able to go over 8MPG.
Ken S i think it would definitely be quite a bit more boring... the audi is way heavier and awd, therefore understeer quite a bit more. And understeer isnt fun :)
Yes that's true but they compete directly by price. Roman says he would cross shop them if he didn't live in Colorado where it snows a lot in the winter.
German cars are generally very boring. They might've deserved their name 20 years ago, but modern German cars are so friggin' numb and squishy to drive.
I don't know about more or less boring, but the 2 series/M2 will better to drive just because it is smaller and slightly lighter weight. Besides that and being cheaper, I've never understood the point of going up to a larger coupe. The back is still useless for adults in the A5 and 4 series, so why both spending more money on a bigger and heavier car that doesn't use its size for interior space?
I tested one on the last Saturday and there is lag specially when you compare with the last s5 b8.5 with supercharger.go to the dealer for a test drive and you'll see
greg gawron Well I have driven it and very extensively. I also drove the previous S5 back to back and lined them up. The new car is quicker off the line and quicker period! It was faster from a dead stop, rolling start and 50-75mph. I will say that the previous model does give a better sense of speed for sure. But it's really not the case at all. The new S5 is very refined and quiet. This may be where you feel like the previous model is quicker? Hope that helps.... oh I did launch the car when at a dead stop as well.
A failed DCT costs $15K to repair/replace. No thanks. I am happy with a barely noticable paddle shift time, which I rarely use anyway, and of course a much smoother shit, which I use every time.
Why do you hate steering feel? Since liquids don't compress hydraulic steering is like having a direct connection between your fingers and the steering rack. I have a D2 A8 which still had real steering and you can actually feel what you are doing
I loved Audis for 3 reason: exterior, interior, and manual transmission. Now newly redesign S5 looks nice on the outside, but interior look dropped from the previous generation. Don't get me wrong, it looks really nice but so does BMW's interior. When I was looking for new car and test drove BMW I loved how the car felt and drove and over all experience. When I test drove Audi right there I decided that it will be my next car. Interior was absolutely awesome! But it's no longer the edge in my opinion. Now it's equal to BMW's. And now they don't offer manual. So I guess all good things come to an end. I'm going to drive my stick for another year and ....BMW it is :/
This guy talks crap about all other cars but think Audi makes the best cars in the world because he's an Audi fanboy. Plz have Nathan make the reviews because he's honest, not a fanboy
Don't be blinded by Audi's marketing babble. It's probably bullshit. What about "real" wood with it's 0.1mm thickness, how is that much better than fake wood trim? How? Carbon trim? Oh *slow clap*. I hope. They charge you enough for it.
Bullshit excuse for not putting in a manual My b5 s4 makes 350 probably more torque, and there is no jerkiness at all to the transmission, it's way more fun
What a sorry a$$ excuse Audi gave for not putting stick shift in S5. So Dodge “figured out” how to do it in their 700hp sports cars, Chevy figured out with their Camaros and Corvettes, BMW figured out with their cars especially M series, but Audi the “truth in engineering” could not. Pathetic I must say. Hey Audi, people that drive stick know how to drive stick including the ability to “smoothly” shift gears the "problem" that you’re talking about. F*ck it, I”ll just buy BMW 4-series with stick shift. If you don’t want that 8% of your revenues or whatever percentage is for manual cars , then other car makers will take it. Whatever.
Amen to that. I love Audis but part of it was because they offered manual on sporty models. Now it's gone so love will fade away. Seems like my next car will be BMW 4 series. the S5 in person is such a beautiful car.. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it
I just bought a 2019. Yesterday 6/22/2022. OMG It’s ridiculously fast. I love it.
how's the reliability bro
Roman, you forgot to mention that there's a sportback available as well which brings back a lot of the functionality.
Sportback will not be available in the US until late summer or early fall of 2017.
Platinum_Prea yes but he never mentioned that it was available for people who like the styling of the 5 but with the functionality of the 4.
Platinum_Prea Actually it will be here very soon. Look for them within two months or so.
Yes, mid to late summer according to what my local dealer said. I ordered the 2 door S5 coupe 2 weeks ago since i don't plan on carrying passengers in the back seats. the wait is already killing me:D
Audi USA says Spring
I think you should make mention that the sunroof opens fully now. I think a lot of people didn't realize that it only tilted in the previous generation and now it completely opens as well as tilts now.
craig doss thanks!!!

I ordered one at the test drive I thought it was DSG as the shifts were really fast.
4.4 seconds to 60 and 30MPG Highway. I'm impressed
Kevin Allen right? I remember when the Chevy Vega returned 23 mpg at 6o mph with a zero to 60 time of about 8 seconds, out of a rough running 4 banger...we've gotten spoiled to the kind of refinement, performance and value of new cars
Kevin Allen 8 seconds? Probably closer to 18 seconds unless it was the Cosworth edition.
James Beaman naw...they could move a little...just have to Rev it..
I don't know how heavy this car is but 4.4 to 60 is nothing to scoff at for sure, this car can get up and move.
Not really impressive. BMW 4- series 435 and 440 do exactly the same years ago. They have less horse power but max torque starts at like 1500 rpms and does the same 0-60 without breaking wallet on gas. And they can do it with manual stick shift too. Guys! We can't keep expecting a manual as the years go on. Let's be honest here....
With a simple level 1 ecu tune for only 500 bucks this car gets over 420hp and it can go 0-60 in around 3.8/3.9 seconds. That's awesome
mine got to 418, and 3.9 seconds not bad for the size of car, the stage 2 got to 470 but not much faster 3.6, but the soft limiter was lifted off
In a car like this, I wouldn't mind the traditional automatic. Dual clutches, while faster always felt a bit lurchy at low speeds around town. I'd always take a 6 speed manual, but you're other video kinda hit it on the head that a manufacturer needs to build cars for its actual consumer that spending upwards of 60k not just auto critics. I totally disagree with your impression of the Steering! My S5 drives like a dream.
A dual clutch couldn't handle the torque...please. This thing doesn't have that much of it. Just cost savings on audi's parts.
True. The Bugatti Chiron has 1,500 bhp yet it has a dual clutch.
ZF boxes are just efficient as dual clutches now and nearly as quick, more iportantly they are more reliable and much much smoother.
A new ZF 8 speed is a much smoother tranny.
says the man who bought an automatic hellcat
R Dixon the hellcat has DCT. What's your point?
+R Dixon Roman says a manual in the hellcat is like a stripper at bridal shower....inappropriate at best ;-)
A hellcat is a stripper in a bridal shower so why not get a blow job in the shower... lol
Muscle cars are supposed to have automatics.
F80 m4/m4 has dual clutch and sports 425hp
What's audis excuse ?
Love the S5! I still will nit-pick the issue ( to me anyway) of the non-retractable center screen! It would really clean up the aspects of the dash design to me.
pretty sweet car, I feel like the S4/S5 are a nice comfortable car that's quick enough to be entertaining. i think they LOOK sportier than than they actually are, though. interior is very nice on these cars.

You ever end up choosing one? Having the same thoughts currently
Prior s5 was a v6 supercharged engine model prior to that was the v8

I *want* it to be loud and jolting. No sound and no tactile response when changing gears is unnatural.
Not really a fan of the hood or the front end. I liked the previous models better.
Agree that the old S4/S5 have a nicer exterior but the interior is a step up. The S5 hood creases and weird front end may grow on me.
Seraphim Valkyrin I saw it in person and it's not that bad
I have a 2015 s4 and the DSG does not feel good in traffic. It is pretty jerky like he said
A good review 👌 I own one of these and I felt proud ! Until the end lol 😆 I love my car 🚗 if anyone is thinking about buying one ...your already missing out
At least it`s one of the best looking modern Audis out there.
Man, Audi and Lexus make some of the best looking cars! 😍
i could not agree with you more. the manual transmission should be in this car. sure the auto is faster but its all about the big smell you can get when you can work the gears
I agree that going with ZF8 is a wise choice, but why no manual?
I wish they never redesigned the 5 series. It just doesn't look as aggressive as the older ones.
3:15 when the music came in i thought the car was gonna blow up
why are the new 4, 5 and 5 sportbacks not available with a black optics pkg? that was always the best option to add.
Completely disappointed with the front-end design, the B8/8.5 exterior is still modern and looks fantastic.
Did you guys learn how to use the launch control yet?
I am offended by his lies about the dual clutch. Also, it does not give the "same great sounds." The obnoxious burble of a dual clutch in the old S5 is gone.

interior would be way better if it was just vitual cockpit like the tt & r8...get rid of those dumb tablets mounted in the middle, they look awful

Trying to decide if this car would be boring to drive compare to a BMW 2 series especially the price is higher than the m2
Ken S i think it would definitely be quite a bit more boring... the audi is way heavier and awd, therefore understeer quite a bit more. And understeer isnt fun :)
Ken S you can't really compare the 2 cars, since this one is a 4 series competitor.
Yes that's true but they compete directly by price. Roman says he would cross shop them if he didn't live in Colorado where it snows a lot in the winter.
German cars are generally very boring. They might've deserved their name 20 years ago, but modern German cars are so friggin' numb and squishy to drive.

What color was this example -Mythos Black or Manhattan Gray?
i think its Daytona Grey
I have a 2015 with the s-tronic and I love it. Drove a newer model as a rental during service and I just didn't care for it.
test drove this car. has a floatly feel and the steering is numb. doesnt have the planted feel of rear wheel m5
Drove an A5 as a loaner, and it wasn't a base model. I had the same feeling. Was happy to get back in my S3.
Has APR come out with a tune for this motor yet?
Not yet. This ECU is proving to be a real beast to crack.
I can hear turbo lag:(
greg gawron Those are some cyborg ears.
No.just sensitive ears.
Not really any lag on this vehicle, it has the turbo in the V of the block and so it's almost none existing lag.
Two doors look better than 4 doors in this case. Also, Let that damn Scion pass you. You're slowing him down. Is that South Mountain Arizona?
Ill like to have that audi guy as my best friend. "Yo, whats that nosie"
Sounds soo much like my m135i, weird. Gorgeous car, would love to own one.
A failed DCT costs $15K to repair/replace. No thanks. I am happy with a barely noticable paddle shift time, which I rarely use anyway, and of course a much smoother shit, which I use every time.
The pre facelift S5 still looks the best, not digging the new exterior.
Does it have Matrix Headlights..?
Yes
not a fan of the hood lines.
courtney Vegan in the flesh this thing is gorgeous, seen a few on the motorway and Audi have done a gd job.
I'll stick to my 2012 A5 black edition coupe . Looks better apart from interior
OLewis92 hmm. your car looks beautiful but I actually like the layed back look. it's more sleeper style and gives you more stealth look
why, why no affordable sport back?
Not until later this year
i have gatland green luv it
I have an A5 now. I'd buy an S5 if it had a manual but I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.
The fake power dome is the worst thing about the new A5 design. I dislike it so much.
So tired of hearing about electronic steering. When these old men retire I won't have to. LOL
Why do you hate steering feel? Since liquids don't compress hydraulic steering is like having a direct connection between your fingers and the steering rack. I have a D2 A8 which still had real steering and you can actually feel what you are doing
Heh... that guy from Audi did an excellent job of pretending manual transmissions don't exist! He must have had a lot of practice.
So it's a sports car but is only auto? What??
But in this case less is more expensive than more.
Audi's lack of manuals in quattro models bugs me. I don't care if the admittedly impressive new autos are faster. I want to row my own gears dammit!
Yuck, Audi went to Costco to buy an iPad and mounted it as the center display.
And now they don't offer manual. So I guess all good things come to an end. I'm going to drive my stick for another year and ....BMW it is :/
bmw is cheap, interior cheap plastic, rattles all the time. Also A3 is VW golf platform. So at that point you could save money and get the GTi...or R.
Miss*
The Scion xB is trying to keep up with him lol.
In my dream
your move Hyundai. Bring out G70 please!
I hope. They charge you enough for it.
under steer City
Bullshit excuse for not putting in a manual
My b5 s4 makes 350 probably more torque, and there is no jerkiness at all to the transmission, it's way more fun
Paying well over 50 grand and you don't even get 400hp? 400hp is weak in today's performance world btw.
I mis the v8.
i thought it's subaru
Whatever.
Since when u become so mean?
Just buy a Miata
no diesel more thats bad
yep thats bad
but we dont care f..k emission
Audi have just invented Jeep's Quadra-drive system.
Boringgg
No manual = no sale.
Amen to that. I love Audis but part of it was because they offered manual on sporty models. Now it's gone so love will fade away. Seems like my next car will be BMW 4 series. It's not as nice looking inside as Audis but I'm not a girl to need the candy eye view. I need my stick shift to drive a sport car.
drwisdom1 day to day driving auto is such a bonus, I tend to forget the benfits of a manual. Honestly you should try it.
