- Today I'm responding to an email from David, who asks if DAMN. would've received a higher rating from me had Kendrick's previous album not been TPAB.

? What's worse is it seems Fantano has just realized it when he said it.

I’ve been a diehard Kendrick fan for a while and never realized that lmaoo

Top ten rap albums of the 2010s:10. Jay Z - 4:44This one is brand new, but it’s so damn good that it already deserves a spot on the list. Hov opens up emotionally and shows a vulnerable side we’ve never seen before. He touches on infidelity and self-loathing as well as issues involving race and social class. The GOAT is back.9. Drake - Take CareThis is when Drake officially stole the crown and made being a pussy cool. “Marvins Room” is his magnum opus, in which he does his signature half-singing/half-rapping while drunk dialing his ex. This album solidified Drake’s reputation as mainstream rap’s most sensitive soul.8. J. Cole - 2014 Forest Hills DriveThis was the moment when Cole fully came into his own as one of the best rappers of the 2010s. He scored some of his biggest mainstream radio hits with “Apparently,” “Wet Dreamz” and “No Role Modelz.” He was also the first rapper in decades to go double platinum with no features. Respect.7. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A ButterflyA timely album that perfectly encapsulates the racial tensions that were/are currently dividing the country. But on top of his soulful social commentary, Kendrick can still rap his ass off like the master MC that he is. An absolute modern masterpiece.6. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted FantasyAfter the hilarious 2009 VMA incident, Kanye was public enemy #1. So he went deep underground and cooked up a masterpiece, winning back the adoration of his fans and giving us the best CD of his career.5. Justin Bieber - BelieveIt goes without saying that the Biebs is not only the most talented rapper of his generation, but he’s arguably one of the greatest rappers of all time. His skills are on full display here as he drops the hottest bars in the game. We all need to belieb.4. Taylor Swift - 1989This is the album when T-Swift went from deep, conscious rap to full-blown gangsta rap. Sure, the lyrics are way too angry, violent, and sexually explicit, but she’s a groundbreaking hip-hop artist at the top of her game.3. Adele - 21The ultimate party album, every track here is the ultimate turn-up jam. She spits fire bars about fucking bitches, getting money, and moving pounds of coke on the corner. Adele is the most aggressive, visceral rapper of this or any generation.2. The Beatles - Abbey RoadThe Beatles are a new group. No one has heard of them yet, but hopefully that will change. They’re the best rap group since Wu-Tang. They’re part of the new sub-genre of mumble rap, heavily inspired by Young Thug and Lil Yachty.1. Smash Mouth - Shrek™: Music From The Original Motion PictureWhat else did you expect? The greatest rap album of the decade. The greatest rap album of all time. The greatest album of all time period

How you gonna give george bush a 10 but 9/11 a 7

Here’s my rankings
1. TPAB (10/10)
2. GKMC (9/10)
3. Untitled (9/10)
3. DAMN (8/10)
4. Section80 (8/10)
5. OD (7/10)
Damn and Section80 are tied imo, I constantly switch between which album is better.
Sean Coughlin yeah this is pretty much mine. Though I might give untitled more of a strong 8
Was about to say my changes to this list but then I realised it’s literally just what fantoine gave each album. Am I a sheep?
Nicholas Reynolds OD is a 7 because I feel it hasn’t aged as well as Section80 or GKMC. I still love a good amount of the tracks, but it’s the album I return to the least in Kendrick’s discography
Sean Coughlin
TPAB - 10
GKMC - 9
Section 80 - 8
U,U - 6
Damn - 6
I’ve only heard three of his albums and I rate them each
TPAB: 10
UU: 8
Damn: 9.5

How are people still triggered by the DAMN. review lol
Damn is just not that great its very good but for me tracks like loyalty, love, and god are wat bring the album down and even humble and pride are tracks i don't enjoy as much as others on the album. Now with that said kendrick is my favorite rapper of all time i love his music but damn is a 7 or 8 at best deal with it folks
In my opinion
Dylan Drury love is the best song on the album boi
I think DAMN. is great but yeah I think Loyalty, Love, and God kinda bring it down a bit. Tracks like DNA, Yah, Duckworth, Feel and pretty much everything else are fantastic
Damn is no lower than a 9 FAM stop
if MBDTF wasn't a 6/10 LOP have got a 10/10?
What about saturation I and 2? Seems to me that you would have given saturation 2 the higher score if it had come out first (simply because it was first/ more original)
Yeah definetly since in many ways 2 was better still i think 1 is overall superior
Here’s a question for next time. When will everyone get over the DAMN review?
Never. They still haven't gotten over the MBDTF review from 7 years ago.
Zachary Jones that review was pure blasphemy
Melekh You would say that lol.
@@ArmLegLegArmHead47 this damn review was trash as well why do y'all care so much about a weirdo who isn't a professional critic opinion?
I’m feeling a strong 9 to a 10 in David’s English on this letter
You should a reverse album review on DAMN
Like start the video with an outro, give score, final thoughts, etc,
A 7 isn't even a bad score. It is good/above average score. It's not like DAMN. is this groundbreaking work for hiphop or for Kendrick.
you said he had a *FEW* punctuation mistakes while he only had 1.
Come on, even if you like TPAB better which I respect, and in most aspects agree with, damn is an 8 lowest scenario possible
I personally would like to see a video of you talking purely of your experience on an album, whithout the context you might usually put it in, just your context. I think that would make fro a great fantano video.
Would damn still be a 7 if 7 wasn’t a 7
Well death grips followed a 10 up with a 9 🥶
Lil pump's new album 10/10 confirmed
First of all DAMN. shouldn’t of been a 7 in the first place. It should’ve been a 5-6.
Anthony, I think you may have missed something in DAMN. because you listened to the songs in order.
Damn is the only Kendrick album that has made me cry. I was so upset that he would release an album of that quality, and that it was his most well received album by his audiennce
Nigga
lol what a bitch
Tee-PAB?
Damn has grown on me a lot in a really strange way that other albums haven't before, Damn. Wasn't bad but in my opinion it was pretty disappointing. The way he ended the album was really cool but lyrically and conceptually this is his weakest album, which is why I think tracks like Fear and Duckworth standout so much, otherwise, I don't think Kendrick took enough time on making this album. I still support everything he does musically though and he's still a very great artist
Yall stupid if yall dont think DAMN. Was an incredible album, I didnt know how to feel at first about songs like Love and Pride but grew on me HEEEAAAVVVYY. I literally like every single song off the album, I believe Kendrick proved his spot and crown in Hip Hop and became the hottest rapper and also managed to break the box of being this like "activist" ppl made him out to be. Will be a classic album for the impact. Best belive.
Its a split album for me. Most songs have just grown on me the more i listen to them. Then theres a few songs that have just gotten a little tired for me, not that theyre bad songs at all, but they didnt have that added level of growing on me the more i listened. Yah, love, and god are all songs i love, but they just havent stuck with me like kendrick songs usually do
Good vid overall but you didn't have to call us qweer-ies.
What is this? A crossover episode?
DAMN is a great album man idc
Hey Anthony, long time fan here. Your channel was introduced to me way back when you did a collaboration with a channel called "Rock It Out Blog".
Your reviews and score are obviously products of your opinion, so it would be silly for anyone to claim that you have an album the "wrong" score.
That being said, I believe that the context of an artist's past discography plays a significant role in the reception and reviews of their future projects. Opinions are shaped by subconscious associations, no matter how unbiased a reviewer might attempt to be.
For example, Nirvana's "In Utero" is, in my opinion, the band's best studio record. But the existence of "Nevermind" created the context from which my reception of "In Utero" exists. I would personally have given "In Utero" a 9, and "Nevermind" a 8, but if "In Utero" came first, and "Nevermind" was it's followup, I would have given "Nevermind" a 6 or 7.
Your reception of "DAMN" may not have been super different if TPAB did not exist, but I honestly think that you may have given it a slightly higher score.
Damn is a 9 for me, it combined a lot of the best elements from GKMC and TPAB and it's just very well made. I fell in love with TPAB instantly, and I did not feel the same way about GKMC or TPAB, but they're both growing on me considerably as I listen to them.
Oi Fantano, Brand News "Daisy" doesn't sound so daisy anymore, ey?
tldw: yup
Thanks for sharing your thoughts fantano. I especially see this mind set when it comes to games. Games and music don't exist in vacuums. There is so much to choose from and it's very limiting to treat an album or a game as if it exists in a vacuum. A personal example of mine is Kirby Squeak Squad. I'd give that game a 6/10 and in a vacuum it'd probably around an 8. My problem is that even for the time of its release, there were far better platformer options available to play and now that it's 10 years old, the flaws in its overly simplistic level design stand out even more.
IM THE BIGGEST MELON OF 2015

For me, when I heard Damn., I initially found it quite stunning, likely because I at the time hadn't taken time to sit down (no pun intended) with Lamar's other albums, but after hearing GKMC and TPAB, Damn., is still quite good, with some strong highlights, but after hearing the preceding albums, it caused Damn. to shrink on me.
Hey Anthony, there's a rapper I've always wanted to hear your opinion on. Immortal Technique is his name and I can't find any instance of you mentioning his music. He was making music in the early 2000's and I'm just extremely intrigued to hear what you think of his stuff.
Could you please do a video on Pink Floyd the dark side of the moon. please and have a great day. Or just on Pink Floyd in general.
Given that you ranked DAMN. #45 of the year, I feel you ranked it appropriately. I don't really know what your numbers correspond to, but I feel like #45, while saying it's good is not exactly effusive praise. If averages play out it will be around #450 on a best of decade list. After seeing every other publication give it a top spot and concluding that DAMN is the most overrated album ever, I found TNDs ranking refreshing. Anthony didn't go overboard with the praise, but didn't get so annoyed by the media's desire to crown it as a genius work as to leave it off the list entirely.
I love RaYuP music
Melon do *Megadeth* best to worst
Thats like 4 good albums and 11 bad or average ones
Kendrick: "When I was 27, I grew accustomed to more fear
Accumulated 10 times over throughout the years

How many accolades do I need to block denial?
The shock value of my success put bolts in me
All this money, is God playin' a joke on me?
Is it for the moment, and will he see me as Job?
Take it from me and leave me worse than I was before?
At 27, my biggest fear was losin' it all
Scared to spend money, had me sleepin' from hall to hall
Scared to go back to Section 8 with my mama stressin'
30 shows a month and I still won't buy me no Lexus".
