      @@jonjacob1962 which is basically everyone. The only people driving gigantic cars should be firefighters and truck drivers. There is absolutely no need for Cindy the soccer mom to have an SUV with a 6 foot cab height to drive her kids to the mall.

      @alana deluty see. This is one of those fine line things. On one hand. Who are you to tell ANYONE what they do or don't need? Yet on the other hand. I do agree that inexperienced, incompetent, inattentive, distracted people should absolutely stick to smaller, less dangerous vehicles. You just wanna control everything and don't want people to have big trucks. I just want people who own big trucks to actually be capable of safely driving those big trucks and if they're NOT, I do agree that they should be limited on how big a vehicle they can drive.

      There is absolutely no need in the first place for vehicles to be that large. In the US, they aren't even tested for pedestrian safety. So if you want to drive a military tank on public roads that should be fine? Absolutely not. We need to keep people safe in public spaces. These vehicles are inherently more dangerous and it isn't fair that the rest of us should have to live with the ever-present danger posed by massive vehicles. Also NOBODY can drive these safely. Watch the video!! There is a massive blind spot in front of the car. So how on earth is that safe??? Pedestrians are also significantly more likely to be killed if hit by a large vehicle. How is that safe??? I hope i am never hit by a car, but if i am, i would much rather roll over the hood of a Hyundai Elantra than be crushed by an F 450.

      @alana deluty LOL. But who are YOU to determine what someone does or doesn't need tho..? I mean I'm 6'3", 270lbs. I sure as hell ain't squeezing my big ass in a little car just because YOU say so. Also. There absolutely IS testing in the US for pedestrian safety. Lol. That's EXACTLY why flip-up headlights were fazed out. They were too unsafe to pedestrians. Smh. But anyways. I'm not gonna argue online with some boomer Karen that wants to force HER will on the rest of us. I've NEVER ONCE had an issue driving my big SUV. I've never run over a kid or ANYONE for that matter. Because I know how to drive and handle my big suv.

    No cameras needed. Just slice the hood at a downward angle like delivery truck hoods are shaped. This is just bad design. Don't optimize something that shouldn't be there.

      Because the problems are on most of the big SUV in your country. They should be bannished. I'm happy to leave in a country where these types of car are rare.

    I'd say the primary reason people buy these monstrosities is because they're in fear of being crushed by someone else's monstrosity if they drive a practical car. Need I go into the extra gas these things waste and the larger monthly payments these things cost, sucking money from the family budget that could be used elsewhere. American consumers need to grow a frigging brain.

    Not only is the size of US cars out of hand, but the flat grill also makes this problem worse. A minivan with a low grill like the Honda Odyssey has much smaller blindspots then an SUV or pickup, and a similar amount of space

    Additionally, in Virginia, per the passage of VA House Bill 5058, the importance of road visibility is no longer a priority. Vehicles can no longer be stopped by law enforcement for a non-working headlight, tail light or brake light. Also VA HB 5058 allows for unlimited customized vehicle exhaust noise which fosters further safety concerns. So in Virginia, it's not only blind spots in driveways causing additional fatalities, it's vehicles on the roadways operating with less than safe equipment as prescribed for many years by the US Department of Transportation/ NHTSA, Triple A, AARP and other safety minded organizations.

    • @jonjacob1962
      @jonjacob1962 Рік тому +1

      @blahhhhhh actually there's also a LOT of work that goes into the design of vehicles to reduce the harm to pedestrians when struck. There's literally a WHOLE TEST CATEGORY that the IIHS performs for pedestrian safety. They crash items representing legs, heads, chest cavities, etc against the front ends of cars. That's also part of why there are regulations on bumper heights and why pop-up headlights died off. They weren't safe enough for pedestrians.

      @somethinginthepines Рік тому +4

      @@discocycle The reason it's allowed for 'light' trucks and SUVs is because of automotive lobbying to get these cars to not have to follow regular car standards in terms of safety. It's cheaper for car companies to sell these things because of the lack of regulation. They are not only more dangerous for the driver themselves, but everyone they're around.

    I have a truck with 37” tires and a 4.5” lift. My blind zone to being able to see the ground is about the same as my Honda Accord. A large part of this problem is the height of the driver while sitting.

  • @DylBuilder1
    @DylBuilder1 6 місяців тому

    I see 90% of the people in this comment section complaining about how people need to buy smaller cars, pickups are death machines, etc etc.
    As the driver of a truck, I think I’d be a bit more concerned about the fact that there are a whole group of 6 year olds sitting on the road (or anywhere with moving vehicles of any type), and probably more concerned with what the heck their parents were doing that was so important that they just let their child play in the road like that. 😐
    And if you REALLY can’t see kids out of the windshield in that truck, then just adjust the seat height, sit on a pillow or something. If you can’t see over the dash then don’t drive it.
    One more thing, The Ford F150 has had a 360 degree camera (a camera system that actually displays a bird’s eye view of the entire truck on the screen using 5 different cameras and many parking sensors) since 2015, and many other large vehicles have followed suite after that.
    Peace! :)

    I also feel horrible for that mother, but I am against anything that drives up the cost of vehicles in this country where new vehicles are already unaffordable for the masses. What % of the time is this happing vs number of cars on the road. We need to look at the hard data and not emotion when it comes to legislators jumping on public interested topics. Digital cameras have been affordable in the past, so maybe this is an inexpensive addition.

      She chose to buy a an oversized, unsafe car like that, despite the dangers. I only feel bad for the child, not the mother. She could have bought a sensible car but chose to buy one of these monstrosities, and she paid the price. What happened is awful, and it would have been 10 times more awful if she had killed someone else's child - at least she is living with the consequences of her own actions and not another family.

    Stop blaming the vehicles and manufacturers for the inattentiveness, distraction and inability to drive that the driver has. Start blaming the moms who take on things they have NO BUSINESS taking on. Like 6 kids and a large SUV when they couldn't even park a smart car. . I mean if you can't even maneuver around the bike... What makes you think you'll be able to maneuver around the kids..? Cars are safer now than they've EVER been. You don't need a big suv to be safe. However you DO need birth control if you can't lean forward a little and LOOK AROUND YOU. Also, I would be willing to bet my LIFE SAVINGS she had her phone in her hand at the time.

      @alana deluty as I've said before. The great thing about this country is our right to choose. Sure. I absolutely agree that some people shouldn't be driving big vehicles because they clearly aren't paying enough attention. But it's not my place to tell them they CAN'T own whatever the hell they want. Nor is it yours or anyone else's. At the same time. If someone chooses to drive a big vehicle. They need to take the responsibility for their actions and stop blaming others for their fuck up.

    • @discocycle

      @@jonjacob1962 laws exist to protect us......vehicle sizes need to be smaller for the same reason that it's illegal to drive drunk or yell "fire" in a theater - because those things can cause harm to others. If someone wants to buy a giant vehicle and drive it around on their private land, whatever, I don't really care. But yes, taking oversized vehicles onto public roads, onto streets where children play outside, through neighborhoods and cities.....it directly puts others in harm's way. You can't have a totally libertarian attitude about everything because our actions and decisions affect other people - that's just how life works.
