Well done! I know this video is 2 years old but I just wanted to say I also own the same Omega PO watch in black. Such a great timepiece. I keep mine on the blk rubber gator deployant OEM strap year round. Just more comfortable for this beefy watch. One of my favorite features of the watch, which nobody talks about, are the white gold hands and indexes. And also the liquid metal infused ceramic bezel. With both the METAS and COSC certifications, it’s a hard tool watch to find it’s equal to, imo.👍
Great video and I love how you've documented the entire omega service process. It would be interesting to see this on your other watches should they need servicing
Looks great on the rubber. I have the SMP300 (white face) and recently got the oem rubber strap. It does make it a very different watch in appearance and how it wears. Very comfortable and light.

I’m with you on the philosophy of not over rotating within the collection, makes you appreciate each piece more and to enjoy what you have instead of always chasing something new. I came across your channel when searching for FOIS btw, just got one myself.
Sticking with a watch for a week (or longer) really does give you a better sense of the collection and how each piece feels. I sold a watch to a friend who kept it for 10 years (wore it twice) and then bought it back recently and wore it non-stop! The magic came right back :-) But true... this hobby can get a bit insane after a while lol!
Nice watch~ I have Omegas, but I wish that Omega would do away with the hideous helium release carbuncle once and for all. Nobody uses them, but if Omega insists it should be flush to the case.
Watching this as I'm awaiting my blue dial PO (43mm). Not a bracelet guy either so probably will order the black rubber strap with the orange accents. I think black/orange will go well with the blue dial !
I’ve got the 8900 Planet Ocean 43.5 on the black leather and silicon strap. A few months after buying I noticed a scratch on the crystal (outside anti-reflective coating) and took it to Omega in Old Bond Street. They agreed to change my crystal for free which was good. However.. the first crystal they changed had another slight scratch on, which I pointed out in the boutique and so they took the watch back again to replace the crystal. Second time round the crystal had no scratches but they had incorrectly fitted it, one half of the crystal was more sunk into the bezel than the other half. After this, I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle to take it back again and just took the watch as it was. I adore the watch and the company but their Quality Control leaves somewhat to be desired. It’s just not good enough. Have you had similar experiences?
I hope mine is an isolated experience. Sorry you didn’t have the premium service you should have. It’s Ok the dealers being supportive, but they need to back this up with attention to detail.
The English Watch yep agree! Currently in the process of deciding wether I buy the steel bracelet for the watch. But is a fair whack at £610! Would you say it’s worth it? Or do you mostly use the blue rubber strap as seen in the video?
It’s just for Holidays away, with the Sea, sun cream etc I feel like the metal strap will deal with that better than my silicon/leather strap which is starting to show its age!
I'm in the same shoes as you. I've fallen out of love of my Tudor BB GMT. I don't like the height of it and I think it's because of its middle section. The watch seems disproportionate because of this. Is this the same case with the Omega? I'm interested in trading in the Tudor to this Omega model.

@@TheEnglishWatch Wonderful review. I am thinking of getting the 39.5 PO Blue. Can you confirm the hands and indices are indeed white gold. I have read that but others have written that they are Rhodium plated. Thank you!
I thought they were white gold, as Rolex. I saw this on one of the large channels (Watchbox). I have since had it confirmed from Omega that they are indeed rhodium plated. The ceramic deep black PO's are white gold though. Great choice btw.
@@TheEnglishWatch Thanks for your reply. Ironically or coincidentally Watchbox had a review just this morning of the 39.5 Ceramic Deep Black! Funny though when Tim Masso discussed the dial he did not mentioned the material of the hands and just noted that the indices, were applique.
I I have a pretty similar Omega Collection. Recently added a PO the one with the black dial and orange 1/4 section , I have the Moonwatch and a 2531.80 Seamaster , even have a Tudor but its the Steel and Gold Black Bay rather than the GMT
Thanks for this video! I'm having a very similar if not the same issue with my Planet Ocean. Issues with the quick set feature, date not advancing. It hasn't been serviced since new in 2014 so not half-bad. Would you happen to know if Omega replaced the spring bars as well?
Hi, congratulations for beautiful watch, I have a question: I have the same watch, PO 43,5 mm blue, are you sure that the Indecies and hands are in white gold? Thanks
In all honesty, I’m not sure. I thought so as I’d watched a Tim Mosso review saying it did, and Tim’s the oracle. I’ve seen plenty of other comments and articles now saying they are steel, rhodium plated. Still no smoking gun, but either way it’s still an awesome watch. Hope you enjoy yours.
This a a genuine Omega strap. I believe it was off the Good Planet GMT, but fits with 21mm lug width. I preferred it to the croc leather / rubber strap. I bought from an Omega boutique, but any AD should be able to get one.
Beautiful watch and for the 43.5 it fits your nicely I think. It’s making me think the 39.5mm might be too small for me and I might have to shoot for the 42mm. I do like that the bigger PO’s have the 20mm lug to lug
I tried a 42mm in Ti once. Really nice. Plenty of choice, but if you want a PO, you need to go big. 43.5 wears ok. Even better on rubber. Leave 39mm for dress watches.
🧐 interesting, I know divers are supposed to be bigger all together but back in the day when divers first started 40mm was big. I’ll have to ultimately try both on I guess
I didn’t have any polishing done on mine, but Omega do offer a case refining service. You would need to discuss your requirements with them to check it’s suitable.
Only what’s listed on the CIS, so new crystal and full service. I expect parts of the movement were changed to fix it. Never heard anything back regarding the fogging up.
I wouldn’t like my watch to arrive by mail or courier like that. I’d let an authorised dealer organise everything and go pick it up after inspecting the repairs. I like the strap
Fair point, but I’ve tried it both ways and prefer the contact I get direct with the service department. It was lockdown and going into an AD wasn’t an option.
is this an official Omega rubber strap (i'm sure it is)? Cause when i've asked my AD (i wanted the exact same as you have) they told me that the only one in 21mm is the rubber/alligator leather one. Do you happen to have the reference of yours? Thanks in advance.
It certainly is a genuine strap and I bought it from an Omega Boutique. The reference is 9800.04.34 and was fitted to the discontinued Good Planet GMT. The ADs have an accessory catalogue where there are 10 or more 21x18mm straps that fit. Don’t take no for an answer. Also worth calling Omega parts direct as they will send you anything you need. Certainly in the UK anyway. The number is on their website in the service section.
@@TheEnglishWatch Thank you so much for the info! Only just I purchased my Seamaster Planet Ocean in blue (same as yours) and put an order for the rubber strap. The AD was very helpful - we couldn’t find the strap with the reference but we did with the good planet p.o reference! Thanks again!
New subscriber here, love your channel. I have recently purchased a planet ocean 39.5 to mark a milestone in my life and I love it. My question is where did you get the rubber strap from (non-genuine 19mm one) that was on your wife's Tudor? The lug width on the 39.5 PO is 19mm and finding semi-decent after market straps is difficult, so appreciate if you have a link - I believe you said Instagram in the other video?
Yes, Strapie.inc on Instagram. Not as good as the genuine Omega strap I have, but for the money, not too bad. Just get in touch with them and they’ll discuss what colour and stitch you want. My wife loves it. Send me a picture when you get one.
@@TheEnglishWatch Thanks for the quick response - I do plan on getting an Omega one, but I don't know if ill like the rubber... having a chain bracelet atm so wanted a cheaper but good 'fake' to test the water. I will do!
Give me a razor blade or scalpel and 5 minutes, and I can notch any wider rubber, leather, or cloth strap down to 19 mm., and absolutely nobody will be the wiser. I like wider straps/bands, and easily notching them to perfectly fit the lugs is easily accomplished.
Hi, would you consider this watch (same color) for a persons first luxury watch? I have the opportunity to pick it up and it fits me like on your wrist. It would be my first luxury watch.
@@TheEnglishWatch Yes the thickness was a concern of mine but I tried the Blue version on at the AD and don’t perceive it being a problem on my 6.75 inch wrist. Now, the other problem…my wife likes the SMP in blue better. Lol.
I have omega seamaster professional (the non Auto version). 1.The strap doesn't lock properly 2. While resetting the stopwatch, the seconds' arm stop way before 00:00 Please guide me in this regard.
How old is your watch? The Speedmaster now has a 5 year warranty, although they don’t tend to extend this to the bracelet. First port of call should be an authorised dealer. Failing that, contact Omega directly or a local watchmaker.
Depends what you have already. I’m more team Omega as a first watch. The white is my pick. Buy on bracelet and get the rubber strap as an accessory. I’ve never had a Pelagos on the wrist. Line both up at an AD and see which one winks at you first. Good luck.
Awesome video mate, this watch will be mine in a year and a half 😂 I thought I wanted a blue dial SMP, but the PO just has the edge, and a nicer bracelet. I’ve got a 7.2ish “ wrist, and daily a Seiko king turtle, which I love, do you reckon the size of the PO will be similar?
I suspect there’s a good 10 - 15% on the table at an independent. WOS and Goldsmiths are not offering much, if any off at the moment. You’ll obviously pay less on the grey market.
Hi! Can you send me the ref of that Rubber strap? I hv the 2022 version of that watch and want to replace the aligator strap with the plainer one. Thx! :)
a 2000 ft dive watch that cant handle getting wet in a shower i've had the same issues with Breitling superocean and a seamaster makers just throw the highest ridiculous water resistance number I am sure the vast majority will struggle to keep water out at even 50 ft! its just a marketing sham! cheers from Salt Lake City!
It should be in the watch instructions, but NEVER bring your dive watch into contact with soapy water- the same effect that soap or liquid detergent has on lifting foods or stains from a surface, also helps it to seep past o-rings and seals on a watch. A hot soapy shower is not a good idea at all. Rinse a dive watch with fresh water, or clean with a damp cloth. And 2) The need for servicing in this video was more than likely the fault of 'The English Watch'; for not having the crown AND the helium escape valve properly tightened down at all times. Heating/cooling cycles throughout the day will draw moisture vapor into the case if you give it a place to do it. And if it's opened for service, they should also include a slip for pressure-testing without fail.
Me to since the video. Looks like Tim Mosso was wrong. Goes to show you shouldn’t believe everything, even from the so called experts. The ceramic case does have white gold hands and indices. Go figure.
Not sure which out of these to go for Seamaster 300m diver, Speedmaster sapphire sandwich or the 39.5mm Planet ocean, Which of these would be a better watch to get as a first "Luxury purchase"?
Wow, no pressure. I’m not a big fan of the 39mm Planet Ocean. I get it if you have small wrists, but the 43.5mm is not too oversized in my opinion. Lots of colour variants. Same with the Diver 300, lots of colour variants, slightly thinner case, but very different aesthetic. I have never been a fan of the look and feel of the bezel on the 300, but do like the white dial as an overall design. Going to the Speedy. Awesome watch. The sapphire is a great daily choice, and would be my choice if you can live without a date function. Best thing to do is get into an AD and have them lined up. Try all the colours they have, and all the strap variants. Hopefully one will sing to you more. If they all do, then you have the start of a collection, but pace yourself and respectfully push on price. Don’t worry about taking your time with the dealer. They want you to have a good experience so you come back for the others in the future.
@@TheEnglishWatch I have a Seiko SRPC93 and I don't like how big that is, I believe it's 43.8mm not fond of that, Plus I think the Planet ocean would also be to thick on the 43mm model I believe the 39.5mm is thinner at 14.5, I do want a speedmaster but would also like a date, Am I right in thinking a speedmaster is more of an everyday watch than a seamaster 300m or Planet ocean?
Depends. There’s plenty of versions of the Speedy that could be a daily. Some with a date. I think the FOIS with a Sapphire crystal and 39mm diameter is the best daily, but no date. I think you’ll find the Diver 300 is pretty slim on the wrist, but depends if you have wrists for it. 42mm isn’t too bad as the lugs are pretty short. Good luck.
It’s a good question. Omega reference white gold hands in the brochure for the Deep Black, but for the other models, information is harder to come by. I have seen reference to the prior models as a rhodium plated, but not the 8900 and most recent model. I don’t see why they would go to the trouble on the ceramic cased watches only, as Omega like to use the parts bin. I’ll do some more digging and write to Omega and come back. The movement has rhodium plating as is the norm, and I know Rolex use white gold for hands and indices.
Ok, so I asked a guy at the Omega boutique, in Bienne, next to the factory and he tells me they are steel with luminova (his words). Didn’t mention rhodium plating (which they would need to be). I’m still 50/50, but happy to be wrong. The sales guys at the boutique were no better than your average sales guys other than having more watches around them.
it's a tool watch meant for under water diving. Looks silly to wear with suit or jeans etc,its part of the kit like a goggles and snorkel and flippers.
I’m wondering if you’d not been “The English Watch” with thousands of subscribers they would have treated you differently? Do others have the same experience? IWC treated me rather shabbily 3 decades ago and I only bought another 2 years ago. Panerai is legendary for poor customer service.
@@TheEnglishWatch glad to hear. Sent my watch to Panerai decades ago. I remember the service about $750. I think it wouldn’t wind. They serviced the problem but it felt like my whole watch was cleaned and buffed. Felt like new, not ala carte as omega. Addicting hobby. Thanks for feeding it.
They do a good job, but I wished I never bought the thing the costs for the servicing are harsh and every 5 years, one year for waterproofing it's cheaper to service my car I am starting to think it's a waste for me 🤔 PS I am not a watch buff that is my only watch I just liked it so I bought it, I have had no trouble or issues it's just the servicing costs I resent 👍
The METAS certified watches only need a service every 10 years, so unless it’s not keeping time or there’s something you’re not happy with, keep it away from the service centre. Omega charge around £100 for water proofing, which every few years is no big deal. A good watch maker can do this also. The service costs and value retention over a 5 to 10 year cycle is hard to beat over a car I think.
Carl Jackson OK, I get it. But there are much much cheaper good watches. You went big! As a watch enthusiast, spending $600 every 5-10 years is worth it. Really it comes down to $60-$80 a year.
Am changing my watches daily, not really depending on occasions, but more my feeling, mood. Cheers fm Singapore+

I agree, but it arrived undamaged. Omega cover the watch the moment I drop at the post office to when it’s handed back. So any issues are insured.
The English Watch glad all is okay with it....I’ve always dropped and picked up mine from my AD so never see how they get shipped...
How much is the cost of the rubber strap?
The strap was just over £200. The clasp is about £250.
@@TheEnglishWatch All together should be just over GBP450. Thank you for the info, really appreciate it.
a 2000 ft dive watch that cant handle getting wet in a shower i've had the same issues with Breitling superocean and a seamaster makers just throw the highest ridiculous water resistance number I am sure the vast majority will struggle to keep water out at even 50 ft! its just a marketing sham! cheers from Salt Lake City!
I have asked Omega and they say that no part of the watch dial/hands has any gold in it.
Me to since the video. Looks like Tim Mosso was wrong. Goes to show you shouldn’t believe everything, even from the so called experts. The ceramic case does have white gold hands and indices. Go figure.
If they would get rid of the valve. They would eliminate a lot of fogging . As the valve opens by getting nudged and gets wet ????
I guess we’ll never know. I like the HE valve. It adds interest, but like you say, another failure mode.
I’d they get rid of the scratches on the side ,thanks
There’s only a few. I’m sure I’ll pick a few more up.
The English Watch If that was Rolex service it would come back like brand new , it’s a pity they didn’t get rid of the scratches, thanks
Nice
Good luck.
I don’t think that the hands & indices are white gold, they are rhodium plated.
This is a good reference at 3:45. May not be correct, but let’s see what Omega say when they get back to me. ua-cam.com/video/bOgPugCPp6Y/v-deo.html
Believe me, I’m a nobody to Omega. I just stood my ground and Omega honoured their end of the deal.
PO on rubber is the omega brain choice
They do a good job, but I wished I never bought the thing the costs for the servicing are harsh and every 5 years, one year for waterproofing it's cheaper to service my car I am starting to think it's a waste for me 🤔 PS I am not a watch buff that is my only watch I just liked it so I bought it, I have had no trouble or issues it's just the servicing costs I resent 👍
So, a person not into watches just randomly spends $6k on a new Omega. How does that happen?
The METAS certified watches only need a service every 10 years, so unless it’s not keeping time or there’s something you’re not happy with, keep it away from the service centre. Omega charge around £100 for water proofing, which every few years is no big deal. A good watch maker can do this also. The service costs and value retention over a 5 to 10 year cycle is hard to beat over a car I think.
@@GearZenChannel I got left an inheritance and did not have a decent watch 😊
@@TheEnglishWatch OK well thanks for that 👍 but how did your watch get water in it and have issues it can't be that old.
Carl Jackson OK, I get it. But there are much much cheaper good watches. You went big! As a watch enthusiast, spending $600 every 5-10 years is worth it. Really it comes down to $60-$80 a year.
The hands are not white gold. It's rhodium plated brass. It's common misinformation thrown around.
So I understand. Last time I trust the so called experts. White gold on ceramic gmt only.
Omega sent with DPD like that 🤦
Too bigbfor your little girl wrist bud😊
