Good comparison!. I have had my Tudor for a year now and like it. Color, legibility and power reserve are great. I don’t find it too big or too heavy, and it goes under my shirt cuffs. But I don’t use it as a dress watch.
And the price , the closest grey market dealer to me right now has one Pepsi for 25 K€. And for that money there are better watches to have.

There is a solution for your Tudor fit problem and I say this as a former Tudor Black Bay owner who also has a 6.5" wrist - you can buy an after market Uncle Seiko half link which is made specifically for your watch and is constructed to ressemble the other links with the same aesthetic and design only it's shorter (be sure to order the correct version for the 41mm case and not the 39mm).
Once you've installed this and the six o'clock end of the bracelet is sized to be 4 1/2 links in length, the watch will fit like a glove.
There's a few tools required and you also need to remove the security folder-over portion of the clasp (it's secured with a spring bar accessed by the holes on the sides). I have a set of A*F screw drivers that I bought from Amazon along with a sizing block. To get the folder-over off, though I just used a cocktail stick as it's non marking. You also need thread lock e.g. Locktite 222 as the disadvantage of using larger diameter bracelet screws, which Rolex and Tudor do, is that they come loose without it. If you're having trouble loosening the screws, put the bracelet in hot water for a few minutes to ease off the threadlock.
Hope this helps, it does genuinely make the world of difference. If I lived locally to you, I'd fit the link for you but I'm miles away up North.
If you're on good terms with your AD they might be able to help you out, though they might refuse as the part isn't made by Tudor.

Many thanks for the advice, it would be a great solution. Although, I have decided to pass along the watch now and hope it brings joy to my lad and ignites his interest in Swiss watches.

    • @antonylaing2499
      @antonylaing2499 2 роки тому

@@TheChapsGuide Thought I'd suggest it, as some have found it transforms the watch and if you like the watch it's good compromise, not that you can tell the difference between the aftermarket link and the OEM ones. One of my first jobs was in watch and jewellery retail, so I'm hands on with these sorts of things. Though as you say, if he's a big lad, he'll have no trouble with the fit.

Thanks for making this video. I’ve been waiting for months for this comparison, I’ve been commenting on all your videos about it. Thank you for making this!
I’ve only ever wanted a Pepsi. I’m a large man 6’1”, 250 pounds, muscular, with 8.5 inch wrists, so I’ve always known I could pull off the Tudor.
I bought my first Rolex OP 41 in green last year from an awesome AD who promised me the Pepsi someday. I’ve waited almost a year. Trying to remain patient. I really like bracelet on a Rolex and I know I’ll be prouder to pass it along to my kids someday. Nothing against Tudor, it’s great, but the Rolex seems perfect.

I absolutely love my BB GMT, but if I were in charge of the redesign, I would change a few things. The thickness is pushing it for me, but it’s not too bad. I think if they could cut 1mm off the thickness, that would be amazing, but barring that, I would maybe redesign the mid case so it’s a little less thinner. The bubble caseback does a lot of work in hiding thickness (look at the Rolex GMT or Submariner or even an Omega Speedmaster, they wear much thinner than their thickness would suggest, and that’s largely because the mid case is slim and the caseback(and the crystal, in the case of the Omega) carries the thickness and sort of hides it better. Personally, I think 22mm lug width is too wide for a watch 42mm and under, so I would have designed it with 20mm lugs and an oyster bracelet that tapers from 20mm to 16mm. Or, at the very least, I would taper the bracelet a little faster down to 18mm than it is now (and probably dump the faux rivets, though in person they don’t bother me the way they did in pictures). This would also save some weight; it’s definitely the heaviest watch I own and I always know it’s there, that’s for sure. I’d have loved to see a clasp similar to the one on the Pelagos or Submariner, but I can live without it. I’d also move the date from 3 o’clock to 6 o’clock to further differentiate it from the Rolex layout and maintain dial symmetry. As for the bezel, I know some people want ceramic, but I love the aluminum. I love that it’s more muted and stealthy, whereas the Rolex is more in your face and the fidelity of the colors can be a little suspect-in some lights it comes across as purplish. True, in some lights, the navy blue of the Tudor can look almost black, which I take as a plus because it’s kind of like getting a Coke bezel for free with your Pepsi bezel. Well, sort of. Not really, but let me have this one. The Tudor isn’t perfect, but for me, it’s the choice to make, especially as I already have a 114060 and I have worse gripes about the Rolex GMT II design than the Tudor’s (mainly the jubilee bracelet, thank goodness they finally added the oyster, and the cyclops date magnifier, which, for me, simply calls attention to the worst feature on any watch that has a date, the big hole cut into the dial that ruins symmetry) and at the ~$10,000 range, I really shouldn’t have to live with those sorts of gripes. Diet Pepsi for me, please. No ice.

    • @TheSnickersnow
      @TheSnickersnow 10 місяців тому

I can agree to everything you said. They should, no, they need to release s smaller version of the GMT with the following features, as so many fans wish for it:
Way thinner case, shorter lug-to-lug, smaller diameter and 20mm Strap with taper.
In short: please Tudor release this Pepsi again in 58-size, or at least with 40mm diameter.
That would be a great hit and you would barely be able to fulfil the demand.
So if it is technically possible to fit the caliber in the smaller 58 case, please do it.
It is not understandable for a company why they don‘t do this since basically the whole of youtube and a big part of their customers in general wishes for it 😅

I have the Tudor on the leather strap and love it. The aluminium bezel has a certain charm but is not as hard wearing as ceramic obviously. I also have a 6.5 inch wrist and strangely don't have any concerns about the size. Maybe it wears smaller on the leather or it may be due to the shape of my wrists. Enjoyable video 👍

The Tudor, by contrast, I owned for around six months, before I sold it to make some room for the blue BB58 - which I’ve very happily owned for a year. Still think this Tudor looks superb on a brown leather strap.

Yeah I agree ☝️ the Rolex at 40mm is the perfect size. The Tudor is a little bit to large. Oh really love the omega seamaster, but at 42 mm I find it slightly to big . Tag heuer have just released a beautiful aqua racer at 40mm which is a dead ringer for the oldd dad 2000 series diver, absolutely beautiful. Their normal aqua racer is 43mm which is to big . Great video mate. I must say I like the gmt batgirl as well 🌞👍🏻😊🥇

If Tudor had made the watch just a bit thinner, I would have been interested. Same with their Chronographs they released last year. I have 7 inch wrists but it is too tall on the wrist for me. Not sure if that is how they get the extra 100m water resistance over the Rolex, but I'd much rather have less water resistance and a watch that fits me better.

I think both of them are great watches, but not for my wallet. I got me a white dial Timex Q as my summer pepsi watch for ~$130, after a while it almost doesn't pull my arm hair (I guess the strap has become a bit more flexible). I consider it to be a fun/fashion piece, like Swatch, but it goes well with bright summer clothes and does the job for me.

The battery hatch is a pretty cool feature. I like the bracelet design. It’s rather unique, not mesh and not Oyster style. Like you say it scratches the Pepsi itch at a reasonable price and looks great with summer outfits.

Another great video. You touched on something when you mentioned that you bought the tudor to scratch that Rolex itch. If you could go back would you have kept your money and put it towards a rolex or was it more of a purchase to get you on the AD's radar? • @TheChapsGuide

In hindsight I would not have purchased the Tudor. I enjoyed it enormously for the year before the Rolex joined it in the collection, but as soon as the GMT Master 2 joined the collection the Tudor lost the battle for wrist time every time. I really do love that Tudor and I think it is simply stunning - if it was 39mm diameter and 12mm thick it would rule the watch world! It did not scratch my itch as I thought it might - that has only really become obvious now, as I never wear the piece and will pass it to my son when he is a bit older. That £3K would have been better invested in something else for sure - but I did not think like that at the time (unfortunately!)

I’ve tried on the Tudor many times and I’ve owned the standard 41mm black bay and a blue 58. The trouble with the Tudor GMT like most Tudor’s is it’s much too thick and since the new Ranger and black bay pro releases it’s plain to see Rolex is pushing Tudor to a retro Rolex homage brand even more than before. The 58 is Tudor’s masterpiece but I wouldn’t buy another Tudor now.

@@comeonman7423 I chose the blue 58 because it looks cleaner and less fake vintage than the black one but the black one is really nice. You can’t go wrong with either really. I wouldn’t touch the GMT personally because it’s much too thick and slab sided. It looks ok head on in the shop window but in the hand and on the wrist it’s much too top heavy and thick. If you have wrist’s like a leg it might work ok for you but a 58 is such a better watch and without the QC problem the GMT has with the date wheel. The GMT get’s flipped quite a lot too because after owning one for a little while the thickness starts to become a problem.

A very enjoyable comparison, Ash! Just to point out; that Tudor is very much it's own beast and while being a sister company to Rolex (both are owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation) it would not be classed as a subsidiary to Rolex. I recently sold on my Tudor GMT, as you are spot on; it is just too big for most to comfortable wear, which is such a shame as I really like the overall design. I did pick up the BB Pro in it's place, so that has filled the gap with a better fit and I do prefer it in design to Rolex Explorer II, which is also quite large. Currently, on the waiting list for the GMT 'Sprite' and new Air King (you need to have spent over 20K, equivalent in pounds, on watches with the AD where I live to even get on the list, which is ridiculous, but they control the entire authorized market here!) I reluctantly gave up on my Tudor Black Bay for all the reasons that you gave plus the large crown always left a red mark on my hand.
I sold it for more than I paid , not silly Rolex money of course but not at a loss which surprised me. ( 17cm wrist )

I own the Tudor GMT and prefer mines over the Rolex for its nostalgia, less flash, no cyclops, and overall value…try buying a Rolex GMT at retail…or walking around Los Angeles w a Rolex without getting robbed at gunpoint..lol

While I like these two Pepsi GMT watches for what they are, I still firmly believe (IMO) that the best middle ground between these two is the Rolex GMT 16710 Pepsi because it remediates what I dont like from the two watches with the Tudor Pepsi being too thick and the BLRO not having that true Pepsi bezel colors.

I’m also a fan of the 16710 on Oyster bracelet. Classic. Just waiting for prices to dip a little below the current 14K average 😕

why are those colours so popular? Because from the far it looks like the original and wearing that one means you are carrying twenty big ones on your wrist. Lets just be honest about it. =)

Hi Ash, great video as usual. I’m surprised you still have the Tudor. After I got my root beer I never wore the Tudor gmt again so I sold it on. It’s nice you’re passing it on to your son. Where I live it’s still virtually impossible to find a gmt in the shop window. We only have 2 ads and the next nearest is a 4 hour flight away.

The Tudor was sadly defeated in the battle for wrist time by that GMT Master. The Rootbeer is a truly wonderful watch, great choice sir.

Excellent comparison Ash. I've had both of those watches on my wrist. The Tudor is too large for my wrist but the Rolex fit me like a glove. I placed an order with my AD for a Pepsi on Jubilee immediately after trying them both on.

Do you own any high horology watch? All good with the Rolex's but they're mass market industrialized pieces... I think a chap of your stature should look higher up for a hand made timepiece

I would love a PP at some stage, but at present they are not accessible to the common man who does not have huge spend history with the PP ADs. I'm working on it as an end goal in the future.

I'm sorry, but that much coin for a watch with a very basic movement found in many other watches is absurd.
You're buying a relatively off the shelf movement found in cheaper pieces and stamped metal with a design for a ton of cash. Crazy to me.

I love the Rolex but I consider it overpriced. Not knocking the quality but I'm not going to pay $10 Thousand plus for a watch. I wish I could but paying that much is irresponsible. And idiotic. The Tudor is ok but not for $4,000 plus.

I regularly watch this channel, but the mouth sounds (especially the sipping sounds when inhaling between statements) can be grating to my ears, since it is a amplified sound of saliva and air passing through the tongue and lips. Great information in watches and style. Sorry for the criticism.

Mr Chaps excellent review, two great watches, you get what you pay for, I'm glad the Rolex group build
Tudor watches, you no your getting a quality watch at that price range, there's no better watch brand in that price
Range than Tudor IMO, Rolex has excellent resale value, Tudor yes you will loose money but not as bad as most
Other watches, again at that price bracket so Tudor is a solid buy, £ 5k price difference!! If you what a quality watch and save 5k Tudor!! quality & resale value. ie get your money back Rolex. Then again I brought my 58 blue
£2760 new, now retail at £3000

I meant no offence by that ! It was a flippant remark, and one I thought would be disregarded. I’d be privileged if my father were to give me a watch like this. In many ways you are a model dad, having watched a number of your videos. I wish i had a father that would offer guidance on the topics you do; shaving, dressing, watches, how to conduct yourself etc.
