In this video Sam gives us a 5,000 Mile Update on his 2021 F 150 Lariat. Sam's Space White color has turned heads since the day he bought it and his 5.0 V8 with aftermarket exhaust sounds nasty. Sam walks us through some problems that have come up with his 2021 F 150 and the fixes and Ford Warranty work that has already taken place. He gives us an oil consumption and cylinder deactivation update as well as answering some of your questions from the comments.

Here is the FORSCAN Video!
ua-cam.com/video/ZMdXP0hFcOE/v-deo.html
FORSCAN, FORSCAN, FORSCAN, FORSCAN!!!!!!!!!! show a step by step how to update the dash. I'd love to do that
Wish my FORESKIN was so handy
FORSCAN!!! Please lol. I have a 2021 F150 Xlt fx4 and love it but the damn alert horn gets me every time too
It’s the pants pooper!
Wanted to say again appreciate all y’all do. I did have a reservation for a 4 door wildtrack Bronco, but canceled order after seeing how much room is in the backseat. I have 2 kids under two in car seats. It would be a hassle getting them in and out every day. I just placed an order for a 2021 sport pkg Lariat F-150 in Space White. I was on the fence for that color, but your videos helped me confirm the color. It’s scheduled to be built 5/27 hopefully the microchip shortage doesn’t push it back. Y’all keep up the good work!
Glad we could help Dirk! Sounds like what we’ve been working on and what you’ve been trying to buy lined right up.
Totally need that Forscan video. Sam's F150 has brought me and I am now subscribed!
Awesome!
@@BackroadDriver please
I would like to see the wireless trailer camera setup, thanks!
I subscribed and happy I did. Today's dealers do not take the time to go through all that's available on the 2021 F-150. I didn't have a clue until I started watching your You Tube videos. You now have my full attention. thank you.
You da man John!
This is one of my favorite channels on YT. Keep it up brothers. I see 100k + subscribers by end of year.
That would be amazing!
Definitely do a Forscan video!
2:08 in the video showed "13.4 MPG." Was that just for this tank of gas??? I am back ad forth between the 5.0 and the 3.5 ecoboost for my new 2022. Would welcome your thoughts!
That was just recent. He gets better mileage than that and has a Whipple supercharger on it now.
Been following y’all for a while. Just picked up a 21 150, XLT sport, 302A, 6.5’ box in space white with the 5.0 coyote. Love the truck, and your videos, definitely give us that FORScan video to get rid of that annoying key fob honk! Thanks for all y’all do.
Thanks Landy! FORscan video coming soon. Congratulations on the new truck. You picked a great color lol!
I subbed to you after seeing you a few times in recommended. I have a 2021 F-150 XL with the 5 ohhhhhhhh. Leadfoot color OF COURSE.
Odometer has about 800 miles on it after about 5 weeks. I got quite a shock a few days ago when I drove it about 120 miles to Scout camp with my kid, shut it off and let it sit for a few hours, came back and got an Oil Level Low warning on startup that went away a few seconds later. Checked the oil. Dipstick reads about 1/4" under the hash mark and well above add. Didn't do it the rest of the week. Drove it yesterday after getting back home the previous day, another 120 miles from cold startup. After shutting it off for about 30 minutes, I got the add message again. Oil level unchanged. I think I may have a faulty oil level sensor on the truck, or at least a loose or faulty ground, but absolutely loving it otherwise.
Pro power generator has been an awesome add on, I just have the 2kw package. I've also noticed that the reverse camera in the tailgate is only accessible at full stop. I wish that were different.
The only question I have is that my truck didn't come with pro trailer assist. Can a 2021 F-150 be fitted afterwards with the package? I just have the blank spot on the dash where the knob would go but I don't know if everything is already wired out for it or not.
Thanks for subbing! Most 5.0’s use a little oil before the first oil change. I would add a little and check it again before your first oil change to make sure it is at the same line. Check out our most recent video about Pro Trailer Backup assist. ua-cam.com/video/hiYf_s_FxqY/v-deo.html
@@BackroadDriver Thanks! I checked out the Pro Trailer video. I appreciate your candor in the "is it worth it?" department. I left you a comment on that video as well.
For scan please!! I have a 2020 Lariat and I like to do a couple of things one of the is the horn sound when truck running and you pull out of it and the one where you can roll the windows down with key fab I think they called it global windows
FORSCAN - need the video. I don’t think I have ever left a comment on UA-cam; but, I need to know how to turn off that dumb horn chirp when you get out and leave the truck running. Also impressed with the gauge cluster updates. Love y’all’s videos keep em coming!
Thanks Grayson! Glad we could pop your comment cherry! Forscan video coming right up.
Can you turn off the annoying ford chim with fourscan like the Seatbelt alert
I will look into that David....
Would be curious to know if the 21 and up 5.0’s sound like a baby diesel motor just like the 18-20’s. Also if the other quirks are there too like the rattle on 1200-2000 RPM and other things.
I’ve always thought my 2020 5.0 sounded like a diesel lol
Can you turn off the stupid auto start stop and remove the speed limiter with Forscan? I have a '21 F150 on order right now. Thanks.
You can definitely turn off the auto start stop. The speed limiter is unfortunately in the PCM. Forscan cannot program that module. You would need a handheld tuning device. Unfortunately the PCM is locked and no handheld tuners work with the 21 f150 yet.
@@BackroadDriver Thanks for your reply. I can live without a tuner for a while as long as I can shut off that damn auto start stop for now.
My 2021 f150 5.0 after 5 days that I bought it I took it to the dealership to be checked for a noisy engine in the morning so I leave it overnight they duplicate the noise sounds like no oil but they said it was normal for this engine.they also call it type writer noise so hopefully nothing wrong but is embarrassing
It's probably the ECU adjusting itself in the morning. I had a 5.0 last year and I noticed if I started the truck and drove immediately after a cold start it would make like this typewriter noise they mentioned. It's normal. It goes away after truck is warmed. Just the ECU making some changes. There's a video about that noise. I'll see if I can find it.
Been going through your videos... have you found a way to turn off cylinder deactivation. My stx v8 comes in this month
We have alluded to the fact in past videos that it can't be deactivated yet. It will take a reprogramming of the PCM. Livernois claims to have a tune that can remove cylinder deactivation. Whipple superchargers also offers a supercharger kit and with the tuning, cylinder deactivation can be removed.
Iv been looking for videos about flickering head lights my 2021 F150 lariat fx4 is doing it and I did notice moisture in the bottom of my head lights thanks for the info I was starting to worry it was just happening to me lol
Would really love to see the Ford trailer backup camera solution. No one has ever seen it yet, a lot of people doesn’t believe it will work.
Online there is a passionate debate over whether or not there are enough wires under the truck running into the 12w plug to power everything.
The reason the accessory comes with the 3 plug pigtail is so you can connect your backup camera, trailer tpms, and YAW sensor all at one time. Because they all use the same plug.
Anyways, I’m pretty sure there isn’t one video on all of UA-cam with this backup camera. If y’all could do it, it would be the first and could be a big hit for you.
Sir, did you special order your truck? If so was there a website that you were able to follow the progress of the build? TY Ron
Sam did special order. The tracking site on the forum got shut down because of too much traffic...
Just found your channel and subscribed. I have a 2019 f150 xlt xrt 3.5 and looking to upgrade to 2021 with 5.0. Thanks for all the inf0
I subscribed. Getting a 2021 F150 in the next two months. On order currently.
Good luck!
I have my 21' with a muffler delete and unplugging the cylinder deactivation plug has worked everytime since i seen your first deactivation video! Thank you guys!
I believe the 2021s pump fake engine sound into the cabin, have you guys turned it off or found the Forscan code to disable it?
Washed my truck today and noticed a paint defect around my left tail light. Small black paint particles are on the clear. Almost feels they can be buffed out. Barely noticeable but when it’s your truck, you know!
Hey Guys, will put on the F150 forum the scan plug in.. mentioned you guys and the product of that fabulous screen protector about a week ago.. BTW bought it. Also pioneer is very helpful for sure. My build date is now week of June 7..
my f150 is getting long in the tooth, these honest videos are fantastic guys, keep em coming
Subscribed! Was on the fence about an f150 with the coyote motor or the explorer St and being an ex lightning owner, after seeing your video I'm on the look out for a twin of your gorgeous truck! Good luck with it and have fun!!!
What brand are those wheels
Did you say Ted Russell as in Kingston Pike and Parkside Drive Ted Russell?
If so live in the same town
Yes sir!
@@BackroadDriver subscribed. Love the content. I have 2021 king ranch. Knoxvegas is the place to be.
Hey Sam have you added any type of aftermarket sway bar on the truck? Do you think it would reduce body roll?
Hey Gene! I haven't an upgraded the sway bars. I have Roadmaster active suspension and Falcon Sport tow/haul shocks on the truck. It's a pretty awesome setup. If your truck doesn't have the max tow package upgrading the sway bars could help possibly. If you already have the max tow package I don't think there would be a very big difference over stock. Best bang for the buck is going to be the Roadmaster active suspension. When set up properly it doesn't affect the ride at all but helps with towing tremendously in all aspects.
Thanks for Clarifying on cylinder deactivation. I never heard it at all with stock exhaust. I’m running an MBRP cat back. No resonator just a straight through muffler.
It’s there and it sounds bad so I’m looking for a delete
Thanks for watching Chris. I can't wait for a solution either. Realistically I think the ECU will have to be cracked before it can be turned off by default. I think even the OBDII port mods take advantage of the truck's ECU and that can't happen until it's cracked.
Can we disable the bell that rings when we don't use the safety belt?
The short answer is yes. I'll be covering that in the video for sure!
@@BackroadDriver Thanks.
How's the ride quality of these Falcon shocks on-road compared to the factory ones?
Definitely more sporty and composed.
Been watch your videos for a couple months but I finally subscribed don’t know what took me so long! Love y’all’s content!
I have heard that plugging in a trailer light tester at the hitch hookup will turn the auto stop/start off.
THANKS So Much Sam I decided to go with the falcons Appreciate the info and shout out!! keep up the great videos my family and friends are big ford fans also Thanks again
You are welcome! If this video keeps this pace of views your name will be so good you will have to run for President!
@@BackroadDriver As how popular backroad driver is I say Sam for President!! Thanks' again for the great videos !
Thanks for the videos, I picked up a 2021 F150 Crewcab last night, looking forward to more vids.. Also like the stang stuff as well.. Keep up the good work
What was the name of the factory guy on F150forum? Have a build ongoing and hoping he can assist.
We were asked to remove the link to their forum and cut that part out of our video. We have made the edit and UA-cam is reprocessing the video now. Sorry. They got a little overwhelmed and a lot of their members got mad at the “UA-camr” that is just trying to profit off of their forum. We ain’t gettin rich over here at Backroad Driver but we will respect them and not mention them ever again.
This is a question I have for a 2020 f150 Supercrew Model. Do you know guys have a experience on the bed making noise under each time driving on a bumpy or uneven roads. I heard it the leaf springs isolater but I'm not sure. I checked everything else and it all fine
Not heard of that one yet. Have you been back to your dealer?
@@BackroadDriver no but I been seeing alot of with the same issue online if you Google it. It like a clunk or something I'm all okay what I checked under the bed. It between 2014 to 2020
@@BackroadDriver I thought it the after market exhaust system but all hangers and factory rubber grommet are all fine and it far too make a noise under the bed they all hold sturdy and fine.
Leaf spring, when I nail potholes at slow speeds there is a loud rubbing/squeaking sound.
@@americantrucknation4891 my not squeaking is sound like if something loose or hitting but it only happens when drive on bumpy roads
Love what ForScan can do. But has anyone found how to get the Oil PSI value to show up to? I will be studying all the info about ForScan, but your knowledge will be much appreciated. I SUBSCRIBED!!!
Thanks for watching Dan! As far as I know, no one has ever been able to show the oil PSI.
I subscribed. FORScan is an outstanding tool and I use it all the time to help customize people's vehicles to their own desires.
I subscribed,
I own a 19 Ram Limited.
Which I am very pleased with.
I’ve also had several Ford’s.
Great to see all your videos.
I’m always in the Market For What’s Next.
Thank Y’all For All You Do.
Thanks Tommy! Your Ram Limited is what made Ford get their butt in gear with the interior of the new F150.
Yes to the forescan video. Used it on my 2018 but wasn't able to take full advantage of what it does. Now I have a 2021 5.0 reg cab!👍
We're working on the video now. Thanks Brad!
@@BackroadDriver No man, thank you guys! Appreciate it!

Does forscan work on XL FX4?
Yes sir! Thanks for subbing!
Howdy Mizer bros, thanks for all the videos it is fun to watch y'all.
If this is a no effort question to answer I would like to know if a cap high topper interferes with the cameras on the 2021 F150's.
Thanks in advance.
Hey Charles thanks for watching! The only camera that I can think of it would affect on the 360° package would be the bed view camera. It is mounted on or near the third brake light. Everything else should fine.
@@BackroadDriver Thank you so much for the quick reply. I didn't know if that camera was used for anything other than the bed view or not.
I subscribed and want to see aftermarket backup cam that can be used as a rear view mirror for my trailer. 2017 lariat.
Where is the link to the forum you spoke of?
We had to remove the link. The forum got flooded with new requests and more than they could handle. A new version of this video is uploading now that will replace this version including this info.
Really great effort guys and wish you all the best. Please show us the FORSCAN and I recommend to install the aftermarket wireless camera because it has more features than the Ford one. Also, can you please install the automatic running boards that opens and closed automatically when approaching to the vehicle. I am waiting for my 5.0 FX4 Agate black 2021 Chrome Lariat to arrive to the dealership in Kuwait in September, hope earlier. Really I like what are you doing guys. 👍🏻
Thanks Almad. The interest in FORSCAN has been off the charts. Congrats on the new truck!
I just ordered a lariat in oxford white with the powerboost engine so I’m curious you’re thoughts on that new powerboost
how did you get a powerboost in space white?
I'm having trouble with android auto connectivity, have y'all heard anything about a fix or problem?
Is the front end ate up from rock chips after a few years now?
I am currently having a problem with my 2021 F-150 King Ranch that I bought last month whit 190 miles where I’m getting an OIL LEVEL LOW on my instrument panel pop up on occasion at warm start ups. I repeatedly check my oil and the level is where it’s supposed to be. Been in the shop twice and they have dome down loads and rebooted twice but it still showing up. Have you heard of this or can you suggest something? Enjoy your channel, its great.
I have a heard of this happening to anyone else. My first guess would be a bad sensor, but since they have hooked up to the truck with the computer you would think they could tell if it was bad or not. Let me know what they do to fix it. It could help others on the channel. Thanks for watching Gordon!
If you read the manual, it says that you can expect the engines to burn oil within the first 2k miles? Somewhere around there anyway, that’s normal. I’d just fill it up and keep driving, it will fix itself
@@americantrucknation4891 The oil level is not low. But I keep getting it level low at warm start ups occasionally.
@@americantrucknation4891 The oil level is not low however on occasion a pop up appears on the instrument cluster OIL LEVEL LOW that I must clear by hitting the OK button. I pull the dip stick and its fine.
Sorry man, I didn’t read the comment all the way through, What BD says I agree with
Absolutely, I would like to know more about Forescan! Thank you guys.
I subscribed, shopping for a 2022 Space White, I love that color & Leadfoot. Wish F250 got some better yearly limited color codes?
Did you leave factory Sub connected in addition to yours or just leave it unplugged and picked up the signal. Love the channel
It is unplugged and just tapped into the signal.
FORSCAN!!
Can you change how it shifts? Like stop it from shifting from 1st to 3rd in certain drive modes?
Forscan windows up and down with the key fob?
Will tow/haul stop cylinder deactivation?
Yes! Do a forscan video for sure! Just got my OBDLinkEX and I’m ready to rock and roll! Love the channel fellas! Keep it up! 👍🏻
Thanks MA!
Sam trying not to laugh every time he said Fore Scan for the win. Lol. P.S. have the Fox/Roush leveling kit on my 2021 and loving it. Doesn't look as cool as your shocks but a great upgrade for me so far.
Brad has the Fox kit and loves it. FORSCAN is tricky!
@@BackroadDriver awesome. It was a learning experience for me. First time I've ever modified a vehicle like that. Going from factory suspension to an upgrade tightened the steering as well which I was not expecting.
Hey quick question about your lift kit for the truck! Is it just lifted in the front with your coil overs, or did you add some lift to the back? I just bought a 21 like yours and want to do a similar lift. Love the truck you guys have and love the channel! Keep up the great work!!
The Falcon shocks only lift the front. I got a full 2.5 in the front and that actually made the rear come down about a half inch.
FORSCAN!!!!!!!!! Please. I need to know how to turn off the auto air recirculatory feature.
I drive long distances at times.
You’re a big man like myself.
How comfortable are the seats and day long drives ?
These seats are wide, comfortable and supportive. We took a long trip to get Brad’s transmission rebuilt soon after the new truck came in and it was very comfortable.
Did you do a Video on how to add the Temp Reading on your Gauge yet?
New to the channel. Looking forward to viewing the Forscan video. Keep the great videos coming. Thanks
is their a way to turn off the " trailer connected " feature

ever hear of electronic locking differential
Yep, I'm aware that it has an electronic locking rear diff. They are known to fail when doing burnouts. I will be switching out to a lsd but didn't want to break it until I get it installed.
Thanks for the video. Why is everyone saying that there are 4 weak cylinders?
wow, 5,000 miles in a month? thats some heavy use. I have a 2020 F150 King Ranch and i just cracked 2000 miles lol. I guess i haven't been going out much and working from home a lot this past year, not to mention my office is only 9 miles away from my house.
Two quick questions. I have a 2021 XLT 5.0. Do you recommend the oil catch can system? What is your thoughts on a Roush Cold Air intake?
I want the forescan info please, I have a 2021 f150 powerboost coming
You got it Brad, coming right up!

On my Ram I push down on minus on my steering wheel and plus 7 times all the way to 8 since i have 8 gears and it deactivates the MDS check if you guys can do it on your shifter but I'm guessing you'll be on 10 since you guys have 10 spd

The 5.0 has cylinder deactivation??
2021 and up, yes
Forscan! I have one, but havent been able to get it to connect to my 21 F150 police truck.
Does Forscan have the ability to disable the speed limiter? I hate the 106 mph limit, and I hit it all the time!!!! Rousch Performance assured me that as long as the tires are rated for my speeds, the rest of the truck is good.
derweibhai Dang! You got the Roush Peformance on a police F150. I taught they would go with Ecoboost cause tax payer money. I taught police stuff didn’t have a MPH/REV limiter.
Mine is the 3.5 HO motor. I just asked Roush about the driveline being able to handle sustained high speed. They said as long as it has a 1 piece driveshaft it is good to go.

I would like to buy a 2021 (or upcoming 2022) F-150 with the 7.2 KW generator to help charge the lithium battery set up (and run the a/c) on my Keystone Cougar 5th wheel. If the GVWR of my RV is in the 14,000 pound range (full up loaded and properly distributed), is there anywhere I can go to increase the torque/towing capability of a PowerBoost V6, or Coyote V8, to pull this much weight? Roush is super expensive, he only does V8s, and I'm not sure he works on trucks with the generator packs anyway. Or, must I move up to F-250/F-350 Godzilla, or Powerstroke? I'm tired of the hi-mileage Ram 3500 diesel I bought from a buddy. A real mistake as the repairs and maintenance on the Ram are horrible. Any rumor that Ford will install the generator packs on F-250s and up? Thanks guys. I've been a subscriber now for a few weeks, and I'm working through your back vlogs.
Hey Roger! I couldn't recommend towing your rig with any F150. It's just to much with payload taken into account. I bet the F250+ models get the onboard power next model year.
Hey guys. Thanks so much for answering my post! And so quickly, too. The RV dealership wouldn't give me a straight answer. (They have a Ford dealership down the road a bit, and wanted me to order a $85,000 F-150) It's good to have a source who will give you the unvarnished truth. Glad you're here. Have continued success with your vlog.
Hello, guys. I am really really hoping you can help me out. I am trying to build a lariat (sport model) f-150, just like yours. On the website, it will not allow me to build a space white lariat with the sport package. It will only allow me to use black paint. It will let me to space white, but it wont be with the color matched bumpers and grill. Please let me know how you put that truck package together. Thank you in advance. Grant.
Does the build and price say it is a 2021 or a 2022?
@@BackroadDriver Thank you so much for the quick reply. It says 2021.
@@BackroadDriver I figured it out. I had selected star white instead of space white. For some reason, you cant do that package with star white. I am glad I noticed because I almost ordered the wrong color. Didnt know there was a star white! Thanks again.

@@daveleary5830 hopefully you wont have to wait too long...good luck
Just found your channel and subscribed! My husband and I currently own a Ford F250 Diesel which was "bulletproof" in 2019 in Mesa, Arizona. To this day, something seems wrong with the vehicle, namely the turbo and injectors. The engine blows white/black smoke especially if we are towing our 4,000 lb travel trailer up a slight hill. We have spent so much money on the vehicle, we hate to sell it. The steering has always been loose (meaning that it wanders a lot and a person has to continually adjust). Seeing the rust on your new F150 and also, wondering if the steering will also wander in a new vehicle, makes us even more hesitant to purchase. Do you have an opinion on the situation? Thanking you!
We don’t think the rust is a major issue but we are going to do a video cleaning it up. The ‘21 F150 steering is flawless.
@@BackroadDriver Thank you!!!
