My Great Grandfather fought on the Eastern Front. Fortunately for my family to come, he survived up until the complete collapse of the German war effort, and was captured by Americans.
He came to the UK, and lived out the rest of his life until 1996. My Father said of him that: he never spoke of the war.
He would've been 16-17 when he started to fight. We recognise that people of that age shouldn't drink, drive or vote, yet we're prepared to hold them responsible for their actions as a soldier?
It feels immoral to me, especially if they're guilty by association and not outright acts of inhumanity.

1:00:53 I'll never forget how well Ace Combat 4 did their story. It's all from the perspective of a kid who stuck around with the occupying enemy air force after his family got killed by a shot down fighter hitting their house. The enemies were all perfectly normal people. They treated him well and liked having him around. All the main antagonist wanted was a strong enemy to face. He was 100% the most loveable enemy in the series and I still hate having to shoot him down after like 20 years of playing the game.

The logistics and planning for D-Day was bat sh*t crazy. The invasion was one of the most complicated military things in the history of warfare.
EDIT: Tommy is right. The real life footage in the video is really damn good.

My family imagrated to America from Germany but my great great grandfather stayed and was a SS police officer in Warsaw. He was a pow and charged with crimes against humanity and hung. He did horrible things but they were brain washed. A very sad time in history.

Fr, and it's not like in 1940 that the Brits fought HARDER than the French, they just had the English Channel between them and the Swastika. France mobilized over 3 million men to defend itself in 1940, while the Brits only sent their expeditionary force of around 500,000, which was was swallowed up, encircled, and forced to be relieved by sea almost instantly by the Germans.

D-Day was only possible because the Soviets were drawing western German troops to the east constantly. The war wasn't solely won by anyone. But the Eastern Front and D-Day played a crucial role in Europe's liberation
