Don't know why but for me the perfect ending for a long day is just kicking back with an ice cold beer watching this dude eating 30 years old military food
I joined the Army in 1985. I always liked the MREs. We would be out in the field and a lot of the guys would bring their own food because they said they didn’t like “Marie’s cooking”. I usually came back with a duffel bag full of them. I would bring them home eat them occasionally. There were a few menus that even my wife liked. I’ll still pick some up every now and then. Love them! Thanks, Steve!
I was a brand new infantry E-2 Private in '92 at JOTC Panama. I ate this meal almost every day for a month because everyone else in my squad hated it and I always got last dibs when rations were resupplied. So, when we were in the field, becoming a "hashivore" was a necessary survival adaptation to my jungle environment. We had the little bottles of Tabasco in the accessory pack that I'd always add to it, and the sweat would drip off of my nose into it as I ate, sitting flopped against my rucksack, usually in the mud. But my mouth still waters watching the video, and I would totally eat that right now.
Goat, we didn't have the chemical heaters yet, I think we got those about a year later. I usually ate it cold....well, not really cold, at ambient Panamanian jungle temperatures.
Thanks for your service brother! I remember when I was in saudi during the war we would throw our MREs on the tarmac and the sun would heat them up for us.. Some great meals back in those days.
It shows the attention to detail and effort you put into these videos. We all love them! I hope you remember me from the early days of your channel before you got such a "NICE!" following :D
Thanks Steve. I watched this video while eating six year old Russian cheese spread from an ICR. I have stopped trying to explain to the girlfriend a long time ago.
As I sat in the field, covered in sweat and grime, having not showered for a week in the Carolina heat, cursing the gods at having to eat yet one more god-awful, bland, constipating bag of freeze-dried, vacuum packed, horror show “food,” that 30 years later I’d be staring at a tiny handheld phone/computer, watching some dude eating the same thing saying things like “Nice. Wow, I love that malted barley smell.” As the Grateful Dead said “What a long strange trip it’s been!” Love the reviews Steve. Rock on! USMC 1986-1990

The corned beef hash entrée predated the issuance of the new-fangled, disposable chemical heating pouches. This may have been stored in very stable lower temp conditions for it to be so good after almost 3 decades... oh, Anchorage Alaska? That's an important clue!
Yeah, I definitely suppose that while in Alaska, carrying some kind of portable pocket stove is a must when relying on any civilian or military mre rations. Of course the disposable heating pouches would work well, too.
Now that right there is a treasure trove! Boy I wish I could buy all those from ya.. hahah! Great score - if you dig into them, be careful & have fun! :)

2019 : *Eating 28 Year Old Food*
You had me at smells like old tang lol.
I loved those fruit bars. I would trade my main in most cases for someone's fruit bar. Totally wish they would recycle this meal back into today's meals
Steve has consumed things from so many time periods he's become immortal, Hail Steve!
The popcorn fresh and soda is ice cold, forget movie night, it's Steve 1989 night.
Hey Joshua! Always great seein ya man. Hope you liked these new ones. :)
Based on the title I thought "I have 10 minutes to watch someone die"
I've got about 30 of these exact MREs in my basement. I wouldn't go near the main, but the side stuff I could see myself using.
Now that right there is a treasure trove! Boy I wish I could buy all those from ya.. hahah! Great score - if you dig into them, be careful & have fun! :)
I'll try and send you some. I don't see myself using very many of them and I'd rather they not go to waste.

Might sound slightly creepy, but I used to live one town over from you in Auburndale back in 2000. I miss Florida... Love watching your videos keep it up!
I learned from experience that if you could warm up the corned beef hash entrée then it tasted good. The warmer the better. Add some Tabasco sauce and it was even tastier. A little salt and more pepper helped.
Will your tombstone have NICE! on it?
Potater I really hope so
Yeah, all those preservatives will keep Steve alive forever! He will still be testing MRE's and saying "Nice!" in 10,000 AD.
Potater he has reached enlightenment through MREs
Your comment made Steve 'Hiss'.
Alright, let's get this down into a coffin
Now I understand where that "Meals Rejected by Ethiopians" joke came from.
New upload... Nice!
Hope you like these ones, Harvester! More in the works now.
Steve1989MREInfo thank you Steve love the video keep them coming brother
Steve this one took me back to when I was a kid. One year for my birthday my uncle took me and 2 of my cousins camping on the back side of his land, but before we went out we stopped by the surplus store and got a case of mres. I don't remember what the menus were, but I remember the dark brown packaging and the oatmeal bars. Damn I loved those oatmeal bars.
I was in boot camp in 1988. Ft. Bliss. I remember these MREs quite well. Thanks bro.
steve1989 according to your account name, you just ate an mre older then yourself.
Nice!
