@@a.wheeler7731 those are normal on high rev overruns and aren't obnoxious. We hate the artificial ones that pop every time you rev the car in neutral / let off at 3k rpm, which are there mostly just to cover up the shitty sound of the new muffled turbo cars, specially 4 cylinders.
I thought I was the only one that doesn't care for the snap, crackle, Pop tune....
Even with valves closed it sounded better than most cars

The E60/E61 M5 has been my dream (realistic ish) car since it came out. Even today it blows my mind!

@@fromalbania1540 sure! That’s why there are so many of them with 200+ thousand km in good conditions. Everyone knows 2 main problems of the engine, it’s not unreliable. It just requires regular special service
@@ddd-sx7pw Bro 200 thousand km are low, even 300km are kinda low kinda normal, it should last 500k km or more to be reliable
@@fromalbania1540 there are multiple examples in my area that has 300k km plus. I personally know a guy on his way to 450k.
@@omnihein9322 one of my dad's friends has a c220 mercedes and he has 2 million kilometers and doesnt even have a single problem, and hes letting it sit for years

the V10 is so insane.. the car that everyone want to drive it but nobody want to own it :P
that gear shift looks so uncomfortable at moderate speeds. that exhaust and engine makes up for it though. and the downshifts are the best sounding thing ever.
S6 mode is _really_ not recommended for that kind of driving. In S5 (with DTC on) it's perfectly comfortable and still 90% as fast.
Lol the low speed gear shift is like my old 1999 Prado with a stretched transfer case chain and clunky rear diff
@@Adriaaan what do you mean S6, S5 and DTC?
@@fadedsoul23 S1-6 are manual shifting modes. DTC is Dynamic Traction Control. S6 mode, essentially a sequential shift at wide open throttle, is only available with traction control off. In S5 and with DTC on the shifts are very smooth and precise, given the clutch is adapted properly.
@@Adriaaan I agree people need to learn M5 and understand how it works. SMG is very good transmission. It’s suits the car while a lot of people want to put manual or DCT. Here’s the problem, SMG is actually faster than both and lighter than DCT.

How can this be possible, this big different between speedmanometer and gps speed? Do you know the Answer?
@@b.c.92 Calibration of speedometer NOK. It happens when someone sets in hidden menu bigger diameter of wheel than in reality...or owner has lower profile of tire/or good profil, but narrower tire than stock car should has. All three cases lead to differences between GPS.
@@b.c.92 well a cars speedometer pretty much never going to be exactly accurate as gps speedometers are this is quite and old car and sensors and things get more inaccurate with age plus it calculates the cars speed by the speed of the wheels so this will change depending on the diameter of the wheel which is why huge off-roaders with giant tires speedometers are basically completely useless because they’re so out
I knew it.. They cheat with the speedo. Those bastards...At 120 its pretty accurate though.
To be honest, I never believed 500hp was enough to reach 330kmh so easily.

Having a race derived V10 engine in a family station wagon is awesome.
It aint so much derived from racing as it is inspired by the V8 sauber engine. Inspiritaion and derivation are two completely different thinks, so dont get all wet down there, this is still a street engine in a street car, aint no racing to be found there.

Wasn't this car from a time when BMW was an engine manufacturer for F1 in the V10 era? I'm almost sure they supplied Williams at least

@@leviathan5207 The S65 (E92 M3) was derived from the S85 in this car. BMW built the P85 V10 used in the Williams F1 cars from that era.

Jesus that sounds good!! I have come so so close many times buying an M6.. my current daily is a 630i but the M6 is never far from my thoughts.. Looked at 2 so far, but both had various issues that needed sorting. And then there’s the infamous rod bearing issue & SMG transmission problems, etc etc… As a daily driver, I’m not sure it would be a wise purchase.. But oh boy, they do sound good!
UK Watcher. It's been a dream of mine to purchase a E60 M5 and blast down the Autobhan at 200mph+ and I'm nearly ready to strike. After watching this, it has shown me it's likely not possible. Thanks @autotopnl. You've saved me a £20K exercise. Back to the drawing board.

Even with the issues they can suffer from if badly maintained or abused, the S65 and S85 are some of the most amazing production engines made. Shame engines won’t be built like this anymore.
That is the best example of a car which a lot of people would like to have, but no one wants to own it :D.

A sreaming V10 is in my opinion unbeatable 😍 of course i love as example the boxer 6 engines of Porsche, American or AMGs V8 or Ferraris V12. But a V10 will be always the biggest melody for my ears.

7:35 I love how in 30 km of test drive, 1/4 of the gas tank is gone, and also that speedometer, 330 shown => 299 in real. it's not optimistic at this point, it's lies.
About 58L/100km consumption 😅
I did 307kmh with my M240i , which was 303kmh GPS, so basically I drove 340kmh in '00s terms with smallest beemer haha
This BMW can go 314 KM/H GPS so its 356 km/h on the speedo, for 507 hp car its crazy fast. ITS NOT TOP SPEED THERE

This is a normal thing on M3 and M5 from this period, 30-34 km/h speedo difference vs GPS. They are not as fast as people thought.

My fav car, the V10 M5. My dad. Had a saloon one of these back in the day and he wouldn't let me drive it. This one must be driven with valves open every time lol
This sounds like it must be the IPE F1 setup... so much more TONE of sound vs the Eisenmann which is just louder but no more tuneful than stock imo. However to truly achieve an eargasm one must go the long tube header route and only then add the IPE setup for this truly unleashes the noise within (even headers and rear muffler mod does nicely). On top of that a remap with the headers alone equals an extra 35bhp and a curing of the notable mid range torque hole and it still sounds amazing without being obnoxious!

BMW should have designed a lightweight supercar to put this engine in... It seems almost wasted in a near 2 ton estate... even if that estate is super cool. The speedo is so wildly optimistic I doubt this car car could ever get beyond 300kph.

The E60 is the most aerodynamic 5 series, it will hit 310-320 kph.

@Peter Ian Staker source? 206mph on speedo is 300kmh via GPS. Again, speedo is totaly irrelevant and you are dead wrong. There is significant difference between station wagon and estate

It's amazing to see back in the days when cars used to have just over 500hp and easily can reach over +300km/h, wherease these days car can have over 600hp and struggle to reach 300km/h despite the fact that can reach 0-100 in under 4sec
Nowadays cars are just fatter - wider, taller and heavier. Also maybe more modern cars come with stronger high-speed downforce for stability? As more people can buy extreme cars, the standard of average driver goes down, so they build in safer handling.
Those shifts are brutal... Looks like something is about to make.
