      @@DavidGilchristCatMan one of the few who read the video title, thank you. Depreciation on EVs here are just in line with normal car depreciation. Fuel costs have increased 57p to 82p per litre fairly recently. Grace at Zeekr advised that the normal cost to top up the EV is around 500 baht, whereas an ice car is between 1200 - 1700 baht. So there are some running costs to be saved..... but it was the performance for the money that astounded me. 🙏🙏

    The bottom's falling out of the EV market in Western countries.
    It's true that they're overpriced here, but it's also true that very few of the manufacturers are making money from their EVs.
    BYD are selling in the UK but not many as Chinese EVs still have a bad reputation (all EVs but especially Chinese ones), which together with the decline of EV sales means they're looking for new markets to offload their product.
    Personally I'd avoid an EV for a few more years until they've sorted the safety and reliability.

      Tesla prices have dropped for their lineup, they keep dropping prices whenever a competing product is launched. People then buy more Tesla’s increasing their sales. If some of these Chinese cars could be sold for the same price as they do in China, with better range, more people there would go EV. New batteries with longer range, longer use life and lower price are coming out, one thing that will need updating is faster chargers, and more of them, to support these new vehicles.

      @waynerm002 3 дні тому

      @@gizmoinasia6080 By the time they get to a state that they would need to be replaced, most people are getting new cars. Keep in mind, these batteries are warrantied to account for some degradation during that period, I believe it is 85% (maybe 75% not quite sure) of their usable capacity, it it falls below that during the warranty period, it will be replaced under warranty. There are a number of Telsa users with batteries that have been used for multiple thousand miles and are still above their rated capacity.
      Properly charging the vehicle 10 or 20%-80% for daily use will allow them to last longer. Once you begin driving an EV, with enough chargers, you won't need to use 100% of the battery. Yes, you stop more to charge on long trips but, at 2 hours of driving, our bodies need a break and you can charge during that break. EVs are getting better every year, more chargers are being installed every month, all of this will help with people's fears of getting an EVs.
      One has to look at the entire ownership experience, driving style, cost, maintenance, etc., to see there is an advantage to go EV. If you own a home, the cost to "fuel" is less when doing so at home compared to fast chargers that everyone thinks they need. It's like charging a phone when you need to power up, unlike a phone, you don't have to do it every day, if your commute isn't long.

      @samorprong 3 дні тому +2

      Yes very popular in Thailand ! the question is WHY?? I suspect the Thai people only look at the price of charging( Cheap electricity) They have probably never heard of depreciation!!!! How many dealers want to trade a 2nd hand EV when they do not know the state of the battery??Why they don't look videos from Piston Pundit/ Geoff Buy Cars. The mackmaster and MGUY Australia to mention a few,
      Europe EV sales down 69%!!!!!!! Dealers are over stocked cannot sale because people do not want them. Hybrids do a little bit better but 22,5% down ,VW fires about 50000 workmen because the EV sales are down and billions of losses!! Then the IT in the car you have to pay in the future for the apps and the old ones will not be maintained.
      With Songkran EV drivers will panick about their range!!! and certainly not enough charging stations.

      The MG quality was a bit suspect, the BYD however seemed a great finish. The Zeekr was on another level. These cars here cost similar amounts to a Mazda 3 or a Honda Civic. Still progressing, but you can see leaps and bounds in the technology nearly every month.

      @@DavidAndNong Chinese brands sold outside of China have to meet the regulations and safety requirements of the county they are sold in. The Chinese have been building cars for many brands over the years and are utilizing those build process for their vehicles, which is why they can offer quality built EVs now, under their own name, while starting completely new brands, sharing similar under-pinning. Geely for example is the parent company for Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Zeekr, Smart, Lynk and Co and others. Geely also makes its own line of vehicles and work in partnership with Proton in Malaysia and have now partnered with NIO in China for swapping batteries in their EVs.
      BYD makes a whole line of cars in China that we don't see in foreign markets but, they are working on to export alongside the Seal, Atto 3 and Dolphin. Some of these vehicles are range extenders which we may or may not see outside of China. I've checked out the Seal, Atto 3 and Dolphin, while not a fan of the looks of the Dolphin and Atto 3, the interior is spacious and well made.
      I have ridden in a couple of Grab cars which were by MG in Thailand, both ICE and EV and they look nice and have a lot of equipment inside. They certainly aren't strippers like "base" level ICE cars we are used to. Although I suspect with tarifs and the need to sell less priced cars, we may see that happening in the future. Currently all the EVs from China I see are using recycled material on their interior, the seats feels/looks like leather as well as an up level look and feel to the interior. Let's hope Toyota will release some better performing EVs than the BZ4 line soon.

      The whole point of going electric is to eliminate poisonous fumes coming out the exhaust pipe of petrol/diesel cars. The bonus is that electricity is cheaper per kWh than a litre of petrol/diesel.

      Clearly, someone is misinformed. Does an ICE engine stop working after the warranty runs out? Batteries are warrantied for 8-10 (varies by manufacturer and countries) years in most vehicles, to retain 60-70% (probably more in some countries) of their rated capacity. Yes, you will lose some range over time, just like an ICE vehicle. Some may want to replace the battery or replace the car, businesses are starting to refurbish/refresh individual depleted cells, making the need for a full battery replacement unnecessary. Some companies are looking into making the battery an item you rent, instead of buy, with the option of swapping to a higher capacity version for long trips. Sadly, Tesla showed battery swapping, in the US years ago but never implemented it. NIO in China has this for a few years now and other manufacturers are signing on to use their battery swap stations.
      New batteries are being made with longer range, faster charging speeds and soon longer life, cost will come down for the batteries, making EVs cost less. Things will get better over time.

      Big screens are marketing gimmicks which can distract an undisciplined driver and cause accidents because a driver's full attention is not on the road. I think car makers won't remove them because otherwise a competitor will sell more cars. That will only happen if governments ban them for safety reasons.
