- Two Cork sisters claim that the Virgin Mary appeared to them for a second time at a Wexford shrine.
Cork sisters Sally-Ann and Judy Considine say they witnessed another apparition of the Virgin Mary at a shrine in Grantstown, Wellington Bridge in County Wexford.
Denouncement of apparitions by Bishop Brendan Comiskey of Ferns and Bishop Michael Murphy of Cork and Ross saw a diminished crowd turn up at the shrine of Our Lady of Good Counsel at Grantstown Priory, Wellington Bridge in Wexford.
It was here at this shrine built by Augustinian priest Father Martin Butler, that two Cork sisters Sally-Ann and Judy Considine claimed the Blessed Virgin Mary would make another appearance.
Sally-Ann and Judy are members of a Cork based rosary group and say they have been seeing apparitions of Our Lady since 4 July 1987. Members of the rosary group handed out the text of supposed messages the girls say they have received at apparitions at Inchigeelagh and Mayfield in Cork, and on two previous occasions at Grantstown beside the Augustinian Church.
Watched by hundreds of people, the girls threw back their heads, moved in unison and seemed to go into ecstasy, smiling frequently. Later they spoke of their experience which they wrote down and read to the crowd saying that Our Lady would be returning to Grantstown for a fourth time on 18 September.
An organiser of the event told onlookers that the sight of the evening sun coming out from behind a cloud was a sign of confirmation of the apparitions at Grantstown. The speaker also told the crowd they could see the sun dancing in the sky.
Sally-Ann Considine denies they are being used by their religious group.
We definitely see Our Lady, we believe the messages are coming from Our Lady and that they are being given to Our Lady from Our Lord.
Judy Considine says people can choose whether they want to believe in the apparitions or not.
I believe she is appearing to us, no I don’t think I could be imagining it no, because the goodness that we feel when we see her, no, you couldn’t imagine that.
The sisters are aware of the condemnation from the bishops and understand they have a duty to protect the faith. However, they say if the church tells them to stop the apparitions, they will obey.

It was a positive message in line with Church teaching. I don't see what the problem is.

Those young girls were just excellent and definitely genuine and so impressive during interview that I have no doubt they did indeed meet Our Lady, Mother of God.

When Mary appeared to the three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal she gave the message to them to pray the rosary every day and for people to turn back to God for peace. Pope Pius XII approved the apparitions in Fatima. For those who don’t believe She appears to certain people I suggest looking into La Sallette, Lourdes, and Fatima. I’m not sure if these girls are seeing Her, but they seem to be seeing someone holy.

Ireland was pretty grim back in the '80s in a lot of ways. there was a despondency in the air, the Troubles on the telly every night, emigration rampant,,and low morale and low self esteem all over the place, it would be easy to be unkind and sneer at people's faith back then, but there was feck all else to fall back on. This is such a good channel, never know what you're gonna get, makes you think.
Nostalgia is nice and all, but Ireland is SUCH a better place now, (yeah yeah I know, housing, inflation , yada yada) loads to complain about but I still think we're playing a blinder these days compared to then.

If they are wrong no harm done, if they are right and the Mother of God was actually appearing there and giving a message of coming back to God before it’s to late, we’re you would be separated from God for all eternity, I’m sorry I’m not going to take that risk. I don’t see the problem, God tells us to forgive your enemies, treat people as you would want to be treated, love everyone, be kind, be patient, feed the hungry care for the sick, strive for righteousness.

The Bible never thought us to worship Mother Mary, She had a purpose and when Christ died her role was finished. Worshiping anyone other than God I believe to be very wrong probably as bad as dancing around the golden calf ? Catholics Worship Mary as the Mother of God this is clearly wrong.
The Bible says clearly God is the only God to be worshiped and not to worship any other Gods.

Christ gave Mary to John because he was the eldest Son and it was a cultural thing for the Eldest Son to take care of his Mother. Jesus thought by doing that that we should all care for our Mother at all times, Mary was the Mother Of the Humanity in Christ while the importance of Mary shouldn't be overlooked it is wrong to assume she should be worshiped like a God as it clearly tells us in the bible and warns us of the consequences of worshiping anyone except God and God alone.
