T.P.O also has a black back,unsupported t.p.o is white on both sides.

I'm very new to all of this. Are both technically "rubber roofs"-- if I'm looking to buy a roof sealer?

You forget PVC... epdm can be manufactured white, and tpo black.
tpo is usually white on top black on bottom, and EPDM black on top and bottom.
so many things wrong about the first method.
and PVC can follow any of the above
