- In this episode Installing An EPDM Rubber Roof (Part 2: Insulation), Tony explains how to insulate a flat roof. This is a warm flat roof using Kingspan TR27. After cutting all the insulation to size, using Insta-Stik roofing adhesive they are fixed in place, ready for the next stage of the process which is installing the waterproof membrane.
PLEASE NOTE: we’ll endeavour to answer questions and comments as soon as possible depending on our work schedules.

I'm blown away, not only by this roofing system/make up, but also with how you go about its execution. 'if a jobs worth doing, do it right' eh? 😎 Next part please😊🤞.
Hi Del hope you are well it’s a great system alway looking for new products all the best Tony 👍
You guys do not piss about!!! Great stuff!!! Master level...
Great work! Such a nice feeling to be on a job where everyone is passionate about their work and takes pride in it. Nothing worse than being on a ‘not my job’ type of job
Hi Toby much appreciated we all love what we do. Many people i do think personally have huge pride and passion but it’s because we have had so much bad press in this industry all the best Tony 👍
Someone else that says 'hoovered'' and not 'vacuumed', glad it's not just me! Nice work as always.
Hi hope you Guys are all well, it’s got to be, mind you the general consensus in the company most of the men do the hoovering at home 😂 so we all say, have a awesome week all the best Tony 👍
Bloody work of art and it Will never be seen , except on UA-cam 😉🧱👍🏼
Hi Steve much appreciated but as you said in your video last night even the work up to DPC which some of it you don’t see but you want to do the best you can, I smiled and thought top class tradesmen great to see 348 watching last night awesome all the best Tony 👍
@@BuildWithAE . Thanks Tony , it was a lively one last night , I just need to ban the wife now 🤣🤣🧱👍🏽
These videos should be use as part of the criticulum for construction trades, flawless. Liking the new PPE "Safety Socks"😁👌
Hi Tj 😂 we will have to get steel toe capped socks 😂 have a awesome weekend all the best Tony 👍
Another job done well by professionals.
That is a very nice job. The care is like you’d do for your own home. It’s good to see
As usual, the standard is perfect. Love watching you and the team so much Tony. High quality. Have a great weekend mate!
Hi Gareth much appreciated we are glad that you are enjoying the channel all the best Tony 👍 have a awesome weekend

Hi groy62 much appreciated have a awesome week all the best Tony 👍
Top quality work again lads, very good mini series, can't wait to see the lantern install 👍
Hi Sam much appreciated it’s on it’s way all the best Tony 👍
Top class work. Im a carpenter and builder currently building a small extension on my house due to lockdown. It’s also a warm roof and I will be using the materials shown in then video. Thanks for showing they are excellent for getting info. I have a tricky little box gutter / valley to form due to my design being a little different, fingers crossed it works out 🤞 👍
Wow you guys are next level.
Nothing more satisfying when you push the insulation in and you hear that squeaky noise backed up with the vacuum of pressure ..tells you that's a great fit.
Hi Stevie hope you are well, so true nothing more satisfying all the best Tony 👍 have a awesome week
Any day at work in your socks is like a day not in work 😃love it 👍🏻👍🏻
Another very neat job guys 🏴
Thanks for watching Yorwerth 👍
Ill bet the house holders know how lucky they are to have you lot doing the work !!
~?
Looking foward to part 3!
Hi Paul it’s on it’s way tomorrow 👍
Hacer este trabajo es como hacer un rompecabezas sois maravillosos un trabajo muy bien hecho muchos saludos para todos 👍👍👍
Garcia’s all the best Tony 👍
Above and beyond as always
I was thinking that upstand looked a bit short in the earlier videos!! Good thing you added those extra timbers on top to get the 150mm before it was too late!
Again the attention to detail in your prep work is first class. Was fibreglass considered for the roof
Hi Barrington Smythe much appreciated we have considered Fibre Glass but we would have to go on a coarse which we should really look into same as GRP, but I must say I do really like the Resitrix System, is the Fibre Glass weather dependent all the best Tony 👍
@@BuildWithAE Hey tony. The fiber glass is very weather dependent if it rains while the resin is curing you are up shit creek, also doesn't do well in cold. A cobalt additive can be used for under 6 degrees but still not a good as laying it on a warm day. Still a good product when used correctly.
Hi @@stephenmurray4916 thanks for this much appreciated all the best Tony 👍 have a awesome weekend
Really great work from u lot well done I still cant get to grips with that system Firestone epdm is just leaps and bounds ahead each to their own tho good work lads
Can't wait for the final video..
looking good men verry professional right on
Much appreciated, take care dude! 👍
If Carlsberg hired roofing teams. Quality.
Thanks for watching Bob! 👍
Beyond pro’s 👌🏽
Thanks for watching mate 👍
Master class
Thanks Derek! 👍
Is the adhesive expanding insulation or something different alltoghther
Hi and thanks for the video.
How hard is kingspan tr27? Could I glue an Epdm membrane (not resitrix) on it and be able to walk on it?
Great work Tony, only a chippie would lay a roof that neat!
Well thought out about let the volatile gas escape prior to laying the top layer but i was wondering what if it rained during that period? Can that top layer be laid over wet insulation?
Keep up the good work ☘🔨
Hi Tiktok cover really well and pray that you have no rain I just looked at my weather app mind you I should of just pray the app never right 😂 all the best Tony 👍
I'm just in the process of building the flat roof and lantern on my extension so this video series has been a fantastic help. A couple of questions for you if that's ok?
1. Did you cut falls in two directions on some of the firing strips so there is no lip in the ply where one sheet meets another in a different plane?
2. What product did you use for the rainwater gully/outlet/hopper please? @ 3.06
Hi TheBigSugs there are multiple falls 6 in total and the gully are from Rubber4roofs all the best Tony 👍
If been in roofing for over 40 years and I’ve never done in me socks before! #ppe
Great job 👏 tho
Good job you put your best socks on, nothing worse than going into someone's house and having to take your boots off , then you see your big toes sticking out 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Snodge67 😂 all the best Tony 👍
I comented before about using ply on a flat roof, but as this is a warm roof it wont matter as the ply wont be subject to accumulated heat and de laminate, it would be nice tho if you went into more detail about how you acheved your falls and the materials used, i appreciate your channel and if i was a rich man ( diddle diddle) i wouldn't hesitate to use your firm.
Hi Mathew it’s something that was mentioned before in earlier videos and we have two big flat roofs coming up so I’am going to go into detail with them to show falls and details all the best Tony 👍
That was quick! You can tell the boozer aint open!
😂😂 I stopped drinking some years ago head couldn’t take it anymore
I know what you mean ive had a few years off every now and again, and work is 100% more enjoyable and easier when your off it !
Mint job as usual, guys. Can you not add in a few bloopers to your video's so that it doesn't make the rest of us feel inadequate!
Hi Jim much appreciated, trust me Jim I have made some cracking mistakes over the years when I was younger 😂 one that always stands out when I made a outside door 100mm to small I was measuring from the 100mm mark on my tape never done that since all the best Tony
Ha..done that as an apprentice with a fire door, and now find myself still doing it..must be an age thing..🤓
Hi , where did you get the parapet drain gutter outlet from?
UkFR do a couple
Do you use building control or approved inspector? Great work as always
Hi Oz local building control all the best Tony 👍
Great to see roofing done in such a pedantic manner. It takes graft and dedication to get water to go where you want it too. Sadly many tradesmen think they are Jesus and water will somehow do what they want. I've fixed alot! Of these messiahs work. Not easy.
Hi David much appreciated this post made me smile have a awesome week all the best Tony 👍
What do u use under the epdm on a ‘warm roof’??
Hi lazenby Plywood all the best Tony 👍
tidy. Why you not put the osb boards on top of the insulation. Thats how we'd always do it.
Hi Celtic works you can put OSB boards down on top but you then have to mechanical fix it down and with the TR27 it’s designed for this purpose so finishing material can go on top all the best Tony 👍
Great work
Cost an absolute fortune thou,
Clients in my postcode wouldn’t and haven’t got the money
Not a chance they would pay for this system.
They want everything for nothing
Credit where it’s due you guys are making a lovely neat job well done!! but please for your own best interests address the fact your working from height and put some scaffold up and take the safety of the guys into action... one of the guys getting hurt or dying from a fall will never leave you and haunt you forever regardless how neat and tidy your work is. 👍
Hi Stephen fair comment we should always tick the boxes in HSE because the book stops at me and I will make sure we address this all the he best Tony 👍
If you somehow manage to fall from that roof you should never be on a building site. Some common sense is required regarding health and safety. You can’t manage every risk. You’d never get any work done.
Good vid as always. The attention to detail is great but I do hope that adhesive holds the foil back pir and top deck down securely long term. I am sure that it is most likely fine as there does not look to be large exposed areas without perimeter constraint. When looking to do this myself late last year I found this vid very good. ua-cam.com/video/RBINlVX0jOc/v-deo.html . This chap seems to know the game well and is a great source of info- approachable too! . Based off of this, my choice was to use mechanical fasteners . Its not quite as pretty as you can see the fastener washer telegraphing through the epdm ply but i know its going to stay secure. Also quick question why not 150mm pir for new build extension?. Keep up the quality content - i learn lots
Hi reedy thanks for your kind words that link is cool, the insulation that he is showing is foil PIR, the insulation we used TR27 cloth sheet based designed to be stuck down, you also might of noticed that instead of 300mm spacing as advised it was more like 150mm even sometimes 100mm the glue is massively strong but that being said I think in massive open exposed locations this has to be considered.
