Alfa Romeo Tonale vs Dodge Hornet RT.. Is there a difference?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 гру 2024
- I finally get the chance to compare the 2024 Dodge Hornet RT to the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale to determine if there is any difference between the two.
In this side-by-side comparison of the two Hybrid SUV's, I look closely to see if they really are the same or are there some glaring differences. Which car do you prefer?

Why so much hate in comments about these cars? I just got a 2023 hornet and I absolutely love it. 🤷♀️
Same I love the 2023 hornet I got one too
Why didn't you pay just a little bit more for the Alfa Romeo?
I prefer the Toenail myself...
Wait till you got a few thousand miles on it.
You got stung too...
Neither vehicle is worth the money nor worthy to be a replacement for the Charger. Seriously, $50k + for a 1.3 liter 4 cylinder ( hybrid or not)?
Why did Dodge have to revive the Hornet brand like this? They made a mistake. I'll take the Alfa model over that Hornet any day
Well, not everyone can be smart....It will be ok
I just picked up Hornet R/T plug in hybrid with the blacktop and trackpack package. They gave me $9800 off the sticker. It’s sporty, drives well and I like it a lot. I traded in a 22 Charger R/T Plus Blacktop. It’s not a Charger but it’s definitely a nice SUV.
Hello. Do you know of any update on that strike that’s going on, I’ve been waiting for these modules from dodge for months now and still no date.
I have not checked it out lately. I might have to see what I can find.
I see the Stars spangled American Flag by The Hornet?
It’s built and imported from Italy 🇮🇹
Right inside the driver door it says Fabrique in Italy… it’s Italian.
Its made by Alfa Romeo
I have seen ambient lighting on tonale is this true in the comparison or does dodge offer it in the hornet too?
Interesting comparison video! Hmm I was hoping there would have been some sort of difference that made one car more worthwhile over the other. It appears that is not the case. I think the Hornet would be a car for the regular car person. The non car enthusiast. Those that desire more out of a car than what the Hornet offers, will find the Hornet a dish that's served cold.
Just remember folks, it's those non car enthusiasts who will buy this thing. You want them to buy it though, so Dodge can make a car for car enthusiast down the line.
My thoughts:
I want to like it, but the Hornet is not a blip on my radar. Great comparison video Racer X!
I would say there is one difference and it’s a big one. $10k price difference for the exact same car except for badging and the bumper covers is huge.
You know which one id choose??? NEITHER😂 Great info and upload Mr X!
PLEASE EXPLAIN the power shot...is it a increase from 7 to 12 lb turbo boost for 15sec?
I actually own a 2024 R/T Plus. The boost max is 33psi on the turbo. The power shot is purely electric boost assist!
I’m still waiting for that power-shot to kick in Racer-X…..did anything happen?
You can feel it when you use it .. it just takes a sec to figure it out
I have the 2023 gt and its a powerful yet fuel economic vehicle and it has all the necessary techs you would need as a daily driver. Install some interior lights and add some underglow and its a real head turner
To both vehicles, have their turbos cooled by coolant and lubricated by oil, obviously and hopefully both of them have a very long warranty
I wonder if you could rent them and take it to Bradenton and race them to see the difference, especially with power shot mode...
Winners of Each Category:
Exterior and Engine- Dodge Hornet (+2)
Interior- Alfa Romeo Tonale (More Soft Touch Materials) (+1)
Interesting. However, why wouldn't you mention where the cars are built. Seems like that would be relevant.
When American muscle looks & sounds like this, We are in trouble.
The Brotherhood of Muscle Atrophy😂
The Hornet has a sharp, cool looking front end
Which has the better soft ride?
Great review as always. Both vehicles seem okay but nothing over the top nice about either one.
Not exactly sure what Stellantis is trying to do there . Seems a bit weird selling the exact same car with different names plus a $10,000 dollar bump in price .
From what I've heard, Alfa Romero was none too thrilled at the idea of a refit. Let's face it, it takes a lot of money and time in development to make a new vehicle. Sometimes you have to work with what you've got. Even if it's less than desirable.
@@SovereignKnight74 Yes I heard this as well and this has to be one of the reasons for the higher price tag on the Hornet. Alfa is already pissed all of their work also went to a lower priced exact duplicate vehicle that will undercut their own vehicle. I'm sure Dodge could maybe start the GT at $27-28,000 and maybe the R/T at $37,000 but they weren't allowed to do so.
I really feel that dodge soldout on their muscle car status. If this truly is their new direction with Stellantis holding the reigns, then I’m out. Always great videos Racer ..
Bye ! 😂 did you complain about the GRAND CARAVAN ?!?
right, they have to try everything, regulations are forcing them to change@@Natethegreat200c
@@Natethegreat200c Or the Avenger, Nitro, Neon, Caliber, Intrepid, Stealth, etc, etc. All vehicles that also made Dodge a successful brand in their own little way.
@@Natethegreat200c It wasn't uncommon to see a Grand Caravan with 200,000 miles on them, they took all kinds of abuse inside and out. Don't even compare this to the real Dodge Caravan.

Hey yo RacerX you should make some tshirts that say off we go. And put them up for sale. Id definitely buy them
I like it
So other than the badging, the only thing that's different is the front fascia?!
WTF DODGE?!
It's Stellantis. They think Americans are barbarians and they want to teach us what cars to like. I don't think it will work. There is a reason the component manufacturers of Stellantis have been drive from the US market. When was the last time Peugeot sold in the US?
Dodge did not make the Hornet. It is made in Italy by Alfa Romeo. Have you been sleeping? Try and keep up
@maximus11400 correct! that's why I said "other than the badging"...
@@maximus11400 Do you always get mean when you drink? He never said it was made by dodge, feel free to quote him if I'm wrong.

It weighs a 1000 pounds more than my Hellcat But there's a bonus It has 300 + less horsepower And I have more Trunk space I believe I have more space altogether. But I hope they sell a ton of them So they can make something really cool that Car enthusiast will actually buy.
It also gets 50MPG better than your Hellcat lol. There's a small market for Hellcats all things considered...much much larger market for where the Hornet is. Dodge will not survive just selling gas guzzling V8 HEMI's even if they could keep making them.
Yeah, that's kind of why I said I hope they sell a ton of them so they can make me something cool. I don't care about gas Mileage I want a car that entertains me. And my Hellcat definitely entertains. Like in the movie Gladiator ,have you been entertained? And my answer is, yes I have.
@@michaelbuteau4183 Finally someone who gets it!!! The Hornet wasn't made for those who care about Hellcats and vehicles like that. It was made for those that like the brand but don't want a vehicle like a Hellcat or some gas guzzler vehicle. There is a market out there for this that Dodge needs to tap into. They cannot survive on just selling big V8 vehicles.

Well said!
I like the Edsel grill.
Love your content Racer x But Dodge. Could have kept? The hornet it's a clone with badge is on it.
Considering the car was made by Alfa Romeo for Dodge I would think it would be the same
You can paint a dumpster black or red, it's still the same garbage on the inside. If they want to sell them they need to price them at $21-25K like their competitors - the Chevy Trax, VW Taos, and Nissan Kicks...
Facts
Those aren't AWD and aren't hybrid. Apples to oranges comparison buddy. The Hornet is also a larger vehicle with a lot more power. The comparisons aren't even close.
To be fair, ducktails1695 is correct. Those cars don't compare to what the Hornet offers. The Hornet will cost more because of that.
Let me ask you this, if you where in the market for a small crossover what would you pick over this 🤔. If I wanted a small crossover this would be it.
Honestly, I hate crossovers SUVs. I'd be the wrong person to ask on that subject. I'd rather buy a v8 Durango. He-he
🤮 YUCK!!! For both vehicles!!! I appreciate you though Mr. X. Love your content!!!
Can you give a coherent reason as to why “yuck”?

I'll take the Hornet R/T Plus...I'd love to lease one actually. You also get the EV credit if you lease it which takes approx $7500 off the sticker price. I think the Hornet looks so much better.
I think the only one that even has a chance at showing up on my radar is the GLH model. I don't believe anyone has had a chance to review that one yet.
@@SovereignKnight74 I don't think it's been released yet. We don't really know anything about it other than the appearance of it. Nothing about what actually makes it a GLH. It better not just be a sticker pack.
Could it be a 2.0L Hurricane 4 with a turbo? Or perhaps a 2.0L Hurricane with an electric assist? We'll find out soon enough. If it catches anything from the spirit of Carroll Shelby, it should not disappoint in its class.@@ducktails1695
The Veloce trim for the Alfa Tonale PHEV has the exhaust pipes (with chrome tips).
yup, he's biased
Either one of those cars would be fantastic as a daily driver/commuter, great video! I was listening to this and watching it in my Tesla surroundsound and that thunder was really shaking the Tesla I kept saying to myself. What the hell was that!? Lol
What’s the deal with the GLH??
Well it supposedly is coming but with the UAW strike that will probably be pushed well into the 2025 model year now.
@@MichaelSmith-kr9qw It's assembled in Italy, so the UAW strike shouldn't stop it.
I wouldn't buy either one of the
I'm waiting on the redo on the Chevy Traverse ZL1 package
Wouldn't like buying an Alfa Romeo which is supposed to be a luxury car, for it to be incredibly similar a car which can be up to $15K cheaper
Sort of devalues buying one
I'd take the Alfa just because of the name. Alfa sounds better than Dodge
I’m not sure where you are getting your pricing figures from. I checked Edmunds and a fully optioned R/T Plus is 55,555; a fully optioned Alfa Romeo Veloce is 57,140, and you don’t get ventilated seats in Dodge unless you get the red leather seats. Also, the pricing varies depending on how you option the car. But there is no way there is a $10,000 difference between the two PHEVs. That is very misleading.
It depend on what features your looking for .. for example the Veloce is the only trim with the paddle shifters and seats like the base RT .. essentially 45k well optioned vs 55k with the same wheel combo as the Dodge. It all depend on how you want to option the car out. This dealer had a decked out Veloce for 62k and I saw a decked out RT plus car for 50k at Courtesy Dodge in Tampa. Even if you look at the sticker price of the two cars I showed there was a 9k difference
Why are they so darn HEAVY?
Batteries?
They are heavier than a Hemi Charger.
Yes the battery packs. The GT weighs around 3800lbs
The GT is 400 pounds lighter than the RT
I’ve looked at the Hornet. Looks like it would be a good daily driver. I haven’t tested one out so far.
Don’t drive it! You’ll turn to stone😮

Buy Toyota or Honda!
Those are compelling options. Not quite as sporty, but those options rank higher in reliability. Speaking highly of Toyota of course.@@aymanlockhartable
@@SovereignKnight74 Go ahead and drive a Rav 4. Its like driving a box. I had a 2023 KIA Sportage. I loved the tech and the smooth ride but it lacked fun so I traded in a new vehicle on my Hornet RT Plus. Now its actually fun to drive somewhere
5300lbs? I expected no more than 3800. That's as much as a 1500!
That includes the battery pack. Yeah the GT is 3800 lbs, but the R/T because of the battery pack is 5300 lbs.
If you had a RAM with a battery pack I bet it'd be pushing 8-9,000lbs.
RacerX are you gonna get a Hornet?
Ummmm no lol

@@maximus11400 I decided on a scat pack charger
I’ll NEVER but one. They are junk compared to my Challenger!
Apparently you haven't be listening or paying attention. The Hornet is built in Italy by Alfa Romeo. If your comment was you trying to be funny you need a lot more practice
I liked the Hornet GT+ but the pedals were too close for me. My size 13's hit both pedals most of the time. I did get adjusted to it. The phone charger was useless since a S22 galaxy fit doesn't, otherwise liked it
The Hornet is the foodstamp Tonale.
My Hornet was 48,900.. Whats your point
I like the look of the Alfa more, but the r/t plus has all the features that I'd want - leather seats, premium sound and moonroof. On the Alfa, that costs about an extra $3200 above the starting price for the Ti, which is about the same price as the r/t plus.
Bro they really sold the same car twice 😂😂😂 super cheap marketing
5300 lbs is insane
Beside the Alfa badge:
Design by Alfa Romeo and intented for Alfa Romeo. So the Dodge Hornet looks like a weird mix of American muscle car + curvy Italian design cues. Hornet is a weird Dodge car with no souls.
The hornet R/T doesn't have the dashborad illumination;
All alfa's wheels look sick! (There's no wheels like alfa romeo)
Tonale has the matrix LEDs headlights;
Tonale metallic paints are more richer and deeper;
Tonale has functional side vents;
Priority parts during manufacturing process;
Tonale can be serviced at the Dodge/Ram, but Hornet *can not* be serviced at a Alfa dealership.
Most importantly, if a Tonale run into problems, you will still love your car because because it's alfa; if your hornet run into problems, you will regret buying the car.
It's a good thing your opinion doesn't mean much
Good 1st car for a teenager. I can also see old folks driving it.
Awful expensive vehicle for a teenager. Kids much be rich these days...

I don't see this car selling well and staying as expensive. I have 4 years before my 1st kid can drive a car. I'm sure these will be good on the used market.
@@Bless0ne Not with Alfa reliability. And after they are off warranty the prices for parts and constant repairs will be expensive. There is a reason Alfa was driven from the US market.
Dodge Hornet GT all the way. 6.5 seconds 0 to 60mph is plenty for a crossover. Alfa Romeo s usually do have some ridiculous discounts though.

Please give so much hate to the Hornet. They are surprisingly fun to drive for a midsized crossover. We both a Hornet GT+ and We also have a Durango SRT. It's not meant to go on the track...your comment makes no sense.

@@ducktails1695 The GT's top speed is 140 and the RT's top speed is 128. With that being said the RT 0 to 60 time is faster than the GT. 140 mph is not bad by any means

Dodge looks 10 times better I don’t like alpha looks at all.
Neither weighs 5335lbs.
Tonale sounds too much like Denali..,0 for originality 🤬
Still a no for me...
Those things weigh 5300 lbs?! Eesh
Because of the battery pack yes...the regular GT weighs around 3800lbs
Over here it's supposed to be 1910kg dry, incl. 120kg for the battery pack. I doubt that makes 5300lbs. I think the 5300lbs is a misquote from the max load entry, not the dry weight of the car.

Well it does cost less you know. That said, even if this was a car on my radar, I'd pick the Hornet over the Tonale, simply because it looks a little sportier, has a little more horsepower and torque, and offers a gimmicky Power Shot option with some paddle shifters. You don't get any of that in the Tonale. The Tonale ends up costing you more money and gaining nothing in return.
I actually think it looks good for what it's competing against. Im not in the market for anything like that but if I wanted a small crossover I'd look that way.
To be fair, the Hornet offers a better package than most, for the segment it's targeting. You can tell Dodge tried to do the best they could on the platform. Well, not the best yet, as we still have to see the GLH in action.@@jaredglass2562
