  • So when one of your best friends asks you to climb the tallest free standing mountain in the world to raise awareness & money for a charity close to her heart... What did I say?
HELL YES! Little was I to know that this would be the biggest challenge of MY LIFE- physically and emotionally!
But one thing is for sure, I wouldn't have changed it for the world.
So here's a little insight for you all to show you what drove us to take on the biggest challenge of our lives and just how difficult it was making it to the top to summit the highest free standing mountain in the world!
KILIMANJARO- The mountain that breaks you but builds you back stronger.
You’re going to cry, and doubt yourself and question why you’re doing it. There will be times when you will go into a dark place in yourself, and know that even if you do stop, you still have to trek back down and it won’t end immediately!
But here’s the thing, unless it’s altitude sickness, which your guides will advise you on, keep going. Just put one step in front of the other. It seems endless.
Summit night feels like the sun will never rise. But it does end, the morning will come, and the mountain has a top. Put your head down, pole pole, slowly slowly, and remember this is the first time you’ve done anything like this. It’s incredible and amazing, and the journey of getting as far as you have, is something you need to be proud of. Don’t for one second think crying and being emotional is a bad thing! It’s what Kili does to you.
It brings memories of sunsets after hard days trekking. It brings starry nights you can’t imagine in the cold temperatures. It brings songs and dancing with people who barely speak your language.
You will never be the same again after this, summit or no summit.
Now, listen to your body, argue with your mind, fight your emotions, and get to Uhuru Peak’ 💕 Caroline McCrystal

I did this last year for challenge cancer UK as back in 2010 I was extremely close to losing my mum to breast cancer and my boyfriend lost his grandad to cancer in 2014. Having something so close to your heart being the reason you’re there definitely gets you through summit night! Lovely video, and what an amazing friend you are to do this with her xxxxx

1965: up and down in 2 days ... for free.
Watching the sun rise over Mwenzi and then scampering down the 3,000ft of coarse sand ... exhilarating ...
    Ah, those were the days.
