Cool to hear about the engine and how you are making more accessible for yourself and future devs! Especially looking forward to the improved level editor. Big stuff, and good luck with #100DaysOfGameDev!
Sometimes rewriting from scratch is the right thing to do. I noticed that as I learn new things about code and gamedev I become more educated about what practices are good and what can be improved. Also, I wanted to say that writing an entire engine by yourself is soo cool. Good luck with this game! Your isometric art looks nice 🙂
Great video as always. Looking forward to hearing more about the engine updates and the museum game. I've always had a soft spot for the management type games as well.
Awsome stuff, working on your own engine is a big undertaking, but will be worth all the experience! There aren't many others on game dev YT here doing that, so it will be interesting to watch.
Amazing! I love the idea of making your own engine as in the end it'll show you're on par with the best game devs from the 80's and 90's and early 2000's, prior to all these engines being available to use. Chris Sawyer comes to mind
Great video, Skeffles! Why write your own engine in the first place would be another question haha. I guess it was a fun challenge for you, though I'd rather focus on making games myself! I wish you all the best with the engine though, maybe it'll even be a rival for Game Maker et al some day!
Thank you! I doubt it'll ever be a serious rival to any of the big engines but explaining Why I'm writing my own engine could be a fun video topic to explore in the future.
@@Skeffles Yeah, that'd be cool, you could call it "Should You Make Your Own Game Engine? My Experience", something like that. You should share your video on Reddit, ie on r/DevBlogs , I would have upvoted it, but I had a quick look and didn't see it on there at least. I'm sure you could find other subreddits to share it on too!
Great video! The huge scope of your changes and engine as a while is somewhat bewildering. How are you going to avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed? How are you going to keep on track with such a big project?
Thanks Rob! I think the scope is manageable, as it is mostly incremental changes to what the engine already has. Although for good measure I will only implement things when necessary, for example I can't see the need for particles or physics right now.
Making a game using an already made engine is one thing. Making an engine from scratch is another. All the best, Skef!
Thanks!
Super impressive what you've done and what you have planned. Looking forward to progress updates!
Thank you so much!

Thanks. I think people often shy away from rewrites because of the sunk cost fallacy but it's good to do every so often.

Thanks Kaleva! They can be really fun, I just hope I can capture that in the game.

Thanks, I think it will definitely be worth it. I hope I can keep the videos interesting too. 😄
It sounds like a ton of work to do all that, but I'm really excited to see how it will end up. Great work Skeffles😁
Thank you! I think it'll be a ton of work but also a ton of fun. 😁
amazing stuff skeffles
Thank you. That's awesome to hear! I've just had a break but hopefully I can get more videos showing this stuff off in the next week or two.

Thank you, that's very kind although I doubt I am on par with any of those 😂
@@Skeffles Give it time my friend!
It does sound like a lot to do, but it also sounds like it'll all be worth it! So I can't wait to see what happens with it! :D
Thank you! I am excited to see how it goes.
Hi Skeffles!! This is looking awesome :D
Thank you Neat!

Excellent ideas!
wow that sounds very complicated, you have awesome skills, keep it up!
Thanks, hopefully it won't be too complicated 😀
You are working very hard, I wish it will be all good😊
Thank you so much 😊

o shii love it when people write their own game engines
Thanks! It's fun and I highly recommend giving it a go.
