Wooo this is so exciting! Really enjoyed the video format, it was great hearing all the research that went into it. Absolutely love the museum tour haha cant wait to see more from this game, I see so much potential and its great to see you so excited about it!!
Love the devlog format, Lewis! There are precious few museum games and I agree that the scope is as huge as the range of objects you get in them. Great work!
Awesome work Skeffles! Really! Love the improvements to the video quality, with the different talking head shots and intro/mueseum B-roll. The concepts were great, especially the space mueseum. I think it's a nice touch that you are making the planets/rockets to scale. Definitely grounds everything more and keeps it realistic. Looking forward to the demo, keep it coming :D
Awsome stuff. Enjoyed watching this come to life on Twitter. Can't wait to see it all running in engine when it comes to life. It's a good original concept too considering I've never heard of a meseum sim before.
I can't imagine how long it was taken you to make all this art, and how much longer it will take yet until it's done! It looks great so far. It's definitely going to be one of those games where you want walk around just to admire the art, almost like ummm.... a museum?
Thank you! I definitely think players will take a moment to admire their museums. Hopefully I can fill the game with some more interactive elements too.
Mannn this game is going to be so cool! Love the new style of devlogs very much. It's very personal, energetic, education and super fun! Very nice job and I look forward to the next one😁
It could be cool if there were special guests that could randomly appear based on what you have in the museum, like space based exhibits could boost your chance of getting an astronaut which could give you more money
I really like the editing you brought here. I need to learn some for my devlogs. Pixel art really hyponotizes me, but it was how you edited this that made me go to till the end. Keep up the good content!
Loving this type of devlog, very informative and entertaining! I have two minor points of feedback on the pixel art though which I think will help out a bit. First of all a really simple one for the walls is that I would make the walls facing right perhaps a bit darker than the walls facing the left. It definitely helps bringing in a bit of depth. The other one is about the stance of some of the people. It really looks like they are in some sort of battle stance, and I really hope they are not out there to battle anyone haha. On some of the people the stance looks normal and well done, so I personally would keep most of them that way. Hope that helps 😅
Glad you enjoyed the devlog! 😁 This is fantastic feedback! I can totally see what you mean, especially with the battle stance. Hopefully when I get things in game I can look at fixing these issues with animations for guests and (possibly) lighting.
This looks brilliant! The concept art for the space museum blew me away! I'm really interested to see all the different styles of museums that you can create. Perhaps once your museum is successful enough, you can invite someone of significance to your museum and draw in a mass of visitors, like an astronaut to the space museum, or a beloved veteran for a historical war museum. Additionally, you could have temporary exhibits of items that are on loan to you for a set period of time, which could also bring in crowds. I really like it, I'm getting very strong rollercoaster tycoon vibes, minus the rides. 😁
Hey! This is a fantastic devlog! I have an idea that would be really cool but may be a little tough. For different museum items, have an online market like Planet Zoo. I am really excited for this game!
This is a great idea. So much potential. On character customisation, going for a layered approach may give you more variations with less work. Like having shirts, hats, colors, etc and randomly picking them in runtime. Not sure how easy it would be in your custom engine, though. A like the idea of going for a more diverse approach. Very thoughtful. It's nice to see the lessons learned from your previous projects being applied. For gameplay, I'd suggest taking a look into Prison Architect and Two Point Hospital for inspiration (you may know them already hehe). They are quite different from what you are going for, but I think the way they handle story progression may give you some ideas. It's funny you mentioned Saturn V' size. I was recently gifted the Saturn V Lego set, and it comes with some astronauts in scale. I had never noticed how big that thing was hahaha. Great work! Looking forward to see more of it.
Thank you. I'm glad you like it. I am definitely going to look into a character system like you've described. Creating individual characters for this concept was a long process and would turn into a nightmare if there was also animations to do.
This is honestly the first video of yours that i have watched, i really like the pixel art style and the idea of managing a museum, i love management games, so it made me watch the video with an eye of interest. I am from Astoaria's discord server btw, and if you need an idea of a new visitor design, well, i have it. A weird guy that is wearing a costume and acts a bit strange and likes to watch stuff up close, so there is beed to add guards to the museum so thag nothing will break bc of him, so he would make a good tutorial for the addition of day security in the museum.
@@Skeffles yeah, maybe the game spawns him during the day and he trys to come close to an object, so the game tells you to hire some security staff to check if someone does something they shouldnt, this maybe as a tutorial to make the player learn about security and how to manage that stuff, and the first real heist could be a few days after so that the player knows what to do
@@craz2580 I love this idea! It's like a warning system so you prepare for the heist. If you're well prepared the robbers go to jail but if you're not then they take your items.
Very nice devlog, as always :D One point of critique, Since your characters have outlines, maybe tone down the grid a bit. It seems very noisy with both a grid outline and character outlines. Subtle would be better, maybe make it a harsher grid when you're in build mode ;)
Shouts to Roller Coaster Tycoon!! and recording your talkies parts outside must be tough, it takes me HEAPS of takes to get it right and if you're the same, doing this outside only makes it much tougher. The pixel art is awesome! and I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with this. Love the Space Museum, you nailed it! as I'm a super astronomy nerd my self. Also visited Kennedy Space Centre a bunch of years ago. I have to ask though, will colonialism, theft and refusal of ever returning such items(ala British Meseum and French museums) to their original cultures etc be a thing for the Classical Museum?
Thank you. I really appreciate you enjoyed it 😁 I definitely have some takes were I got the script very wrong. As for colonialism, it's absolutely something I've thought of but I'm not quite sure how to get it right. Should you start in a museum that contains pinched exhibits and give the player the choice to return them OR should none of the museums have items like these? One approach I am considering is a lending system. For example you help a museum in Egypt and then you're allowed to borrow some pyramids or sphinx. It's kind of a tricky one.
@@Skeffles Those are great ideas mate. Like starting with these exhibits but returning them and gaining other exhibits and trying to keep the people coming in. Kinda like in RC Tycoon, where an old wooden RC needs replacing, coz it might kill people one day, so you have to build a new steel coaster and keep the custumers coming.
Looks like a solid concept, I like it. Though I have to admit that it really annoys me that this political component is there, this "diversity representation". I was hoping that in game dev I could get a respite from that stuffand now it's here too
I appreciate that you like the game idea and whilst a few years ago I would have probably had a similar mindset as you I disagree that there is any political components here. I don't expect this comment will change your mind in anyway, shape or form however this game is about managing a museum and realities that come with that. One key reality is a diverse range of visitors and it's one I am happy for this game to embrace for both gameplay and representation reasons.
