I find the people who are slow in the beginning end up being very fast later on. I think people who goes slow values doing the job properly, also going slow is the best way to learn! Being fast will come. I remember it took me 8 hours to do 4 hours route, I was so bad. But now I do full route plus overtime and come back at 4:30. My best advice is to relax and be as organize as you can.
Dont let management bully you and get to you. If you are going slow then usually that means you're not confident on the route. Take your time, learn the route, and speed will come the more confident you become on the route. I was a train wreck when I first started to the point that a 3 hour route took me 6. I recieved zero training and told on day one go deliver the mail. Now I have that 3 hour route down to about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Stick with it, take what management says with a grain of salt, and push through.
U mean u didnt go on Carrier training b4 u started delivering? Not True!! Mgt wont allow u to just deliver if u dont know where to start and No training at all!! Been there Done that for 30 fkg years!! 🥵
Hes right, some people in my class had routes before they went to the academy, it really depends on your location..They still needed training, I smoked everybody with the fastest times when I was casing...Go at your own pace though, because if you rush, you're goin to have alot of misplaced mail and your head will spin once it's time to go on your route...
Honestly, I believe I was slow because of the simple fact that I was brand new and trying to get in the rhythm of things. Giving me more and more OJI training won't necessarily change that; only repetition will. Also, there were some things that could threw you off. You've just got to find ways to keep moving; cut short customer interactions; don't get stuck looking for a mailbox. Most of all, don't let words from the supervisors / managers live in your head rent-free. Take a deep breath in and out and remind yourself: It's just the mail.
I work for the post office. I started to work in July. There has been so many times that I want to quit. They harassed you a lot. I never done this type of work before. I am still learning and the supervisors know that. But they don’t care. They make you feel like your lying when you tell them there traffic. I took a picture to show that there traffic. When you finally get to the address they want to rush you. It is frustrating.
22 year veteran I'm sure you seen comments from me b4 if not fine. You are showing my wife the ins and outs of the job. So gotta thank you. You the man.
This video is still relevant in 2022. Thank you for the alibi advice. I have so many signature international packages and certified letters on the routes I've been on and I never thought of it. Had a few giant deliver to the door (up three flights) parcels as well. It really does add up.
With summer approaching. Please make a video on must haves a carrier needs I'm the summer. What do you eat and drink to stay hydrated. What do you use to stay cool. How often you drink water stuff like that.
Completely. I just started 3 months ago and it was very easy to do it even in -30 degree. Dress properly and you'll be fine. But I don't know if I can get through the summer especially past 12 hours a day... cold waters with shorts and short T shirt along with a hat... that's not just enough for me. I'd die out there.
When you first start, many many people skip there breaks to catch up on your Rt. Just the way it is because you WILL be slow. You can write up your certifies in the office. Saves you time on the street. After you get the hang of mail carrying, the best advice I can give to you is get out of the office as fast as you can. If you can master casing, that will get you out on the street fast to do your Rt and your piece
I’m almost done with my academy on Friday, then I go for training at my station on Tuesday. So much information to memorize lol. With time things will permanently sink in after doing it repeatedly. Everyone is telling me to stay as a PSE and NOT become a CCA, but they say CCA is where the money is at
I got walked the other day I left to the street at 9:30. Today i left to the street at 8:50 and my post master is asking me why I didnt finish earlier (since it was light). What I really want to tell her is I dont kill myself to do extra work since I had a pivot. Like do these people understand you get paid by the hour not by how much work you do. There trying to say undertime pivot. (Im a cca)
@@CalUsviFl I dont understand as long as the work gets done why does it matter. Especially im doing the route in a timely manner. Because if anybody else were to leave early . They wouldnt get told anything to finish the route early.
@@Biddys24 it shouldn't matter but they make sure it does. I know it's stupid but hang in there and keep driving forward, your office will go through this supervisor just like any other office and you'll get someone new.
@@Biddys24 Just makes sure you work safely and take 8 hours even if the mail is light. These routes are eight-hour assignments, according to postal management.
Why don't all of the post offices have dynamic delivery entered into our scanners? One of my problems is that I can scan into sections but I don't know the sections well enough yet. I saw that if scanners are set up for dynamic that it will give a sequence number for every package
After watching this, this is the only thing I am concerned about. I understand with the training that I will be dealing with stress and the growing pains of the job.
Mike you offer some great information. My chain of command has 5 managers and not to include the station manager. There is one in particular manager that wants full control of scheduling days off issues or anything that goes on in the day with us CCAs or carriers. The problem is he refuses to share this information with any of the other supervisors. We have been specifically told not to give info to some of the managers basically keeping them in dark. What do we do in that situation? Do we need to just break the chain and tell everyone or just follow orders?
Great question, honestly if you feel this information needs to be shared with the other supervisors then by all means let them know. If the information doesn't make any difference to you and it's a dispute between the supervisors then I'd let them handle their own issues. I wouldn't hold back any info just because there's only one supervisor that handles you, if they're not there then go to the others. I have no problem going above the chain if I have to.
I had a really slow day on a short route the other day. There was a third bundle, 2 signatures, 3 certified, and my DPS was really out of order in some spots (It looks like it fell or there was something wrong).
You can SAY you had seven certified letters, but management won't care. They expect you to be done on time or even pivot no matter how much mail there is. Just work safely. One of my favorite replies to management when they want me to pivot is, "Which safety rules do you want me to ignore?"
some micromanagement is strong lol. I don't argue but some are so strong on micromanagement it's hard not to resist even for a cooperative person lol. I would make a list that on one sheet of paper it shows the order of the case and each number to a package so i can just see it all at a glance. my supervisor said that's against postal regulations hehe. I do up to 35 packages an hour and that had me worry about losing my productivity.
Hi Mike, thank you for your videos and all the info you provided. Saturday March 13 I was in accident hit and run nobody stop to help or ask if I was fine so I have no witnesses I’m a cca they sent me to the hospital and I’m going back to work tomorrow Tuesday the 16th. The question is I can get fired? I’m so worried and to make it worse I was driving one of the new Mercedes vans
I'm sorry to hear about that, and I'm glad to hear you're ok. I wouldn't stress about it too much. It will be logged as an accident but since it was a hit and run there's really nothing else they can go off. Just make sure you talk to your union and get guidance from them as well. Keep me posted.
great advice homie keep them videos coming..maybe can you touch on casing for routes with mailboxes ive doing doing routes with only cvus so when they had me do part of route with only mailboxes it was i little more challenging so if you have any tips on casing lime do you use parcel markers?..but thanks for all the good info
I’m sick and tired of certain supervisors who were former Clerks telling me I’m slow when they’ve never done my job before. They’ve never cased, loaded or delivered mail in their life. Put them in my shoes 👞 and they’ll be lost in the sauce just as much as I am.
That's the main reason I quit. On my last day supervisor came out and observed me. She was pissed because I'd deliver as many parcels as I could while on the relay (100% walking route) then instead of delivering the rest of parcels after I was done with that relay I'd wait until I was done with the entire route. Why? Because it cut down on confusion for me. Why confusion? Because the relays would sometimes have two different blocks. So for instance I'd deliver odd side of Avenue A then turn off and deliver 30% of Avenue B, then deliver the even side of Avenue A on the way back to my truck. The rest of Avenue B was divided between two other relays that ran parallel to relay 1 until you turned off to deliver part of Avenue B. As you might have figured, that could be super confusing when you first get put onto a particular route. It's hard to memorize where the part of Avenue B ends on relay 1, and where it picks back up on relay 2, etc. Keep in mind it was only my 3rd time ever working anything having to do with mail routes. I wasn't even familiar with delivering routes, let alone that particular route. Mind you, a full route. So anyways supervisor says after I get done with relay I was on go back and get "caught up" with packages I didn't deliver. In reality I wasn't "behind" because I had saved time by not delivering the rest of the parcels, which I would go back and deliver after all mail was done. So I was actually saving 5-10 minutes on each relay, which I intended to use back up delivering leftover parcels after all mail was delivered. But because supervisor, who never delivered mail a day in her life, decided to stick her nose where it didn't belong, it messed me up. Now I was in "oh sh*t" mode (for no reason other than supervisor butting in) and started delivering all parcels marked "Avenue B". Then I started getting into actual time wasting procedures because I was delivering parcels to relays I hadn't even walked yet. So what happened was I started back delivering mail on relays 2 and 3 and realizing I had been to those houses and Avenue B because there were already parcels in the mailboxes. I was so pissed. I was doing just fine until her dumb ass decided to butt in with her useless, uninformed instructions. Like if I could save an hour by not delivering most even parcels (because they couldn't all fit in bag anyways) that would be an hour I had to deliver them all after I was done with the mail. Before then the only real "time wasting procedure" would have been getting back to the blocks to deliver. We're talking minutes, maybe 10-15 minutes total if even that because I was CCA and so route was located within about a 6-8 block area. Because leftover parcels were all from one side of the street it even made going back and delivering the parcels easier than normal too, in other words taking less time. So maybe I would have wasted 10 minutes, but instead, following her orders, that turned into over an hour. So what happened? I went from being on pace to finish up on time or slightly after, to now being a good amount behind because I was delivering to houses I could have gotten to walking the next couple relays. So then the sun starts going down. I didn't have a headlamp which was totally my fault, but if not for her I would have been done before then. But even if not completely done by then all I would have had left were parcels, which you don't really need a headlamp to deliver. To make matters worse my LLV's cargo light stopped working. I was basically screwed because I still had mail to deliver with the sun quickly setting and no light source on a pure walking route. It was at that moment that I said "you know what, f*ck this job already". The cargo light would have been a good alibi but the problem was I didn't bring a headlamp- even though I wouldn't have needed one if not for my meddling supervisor. Because I already know how they operate- find any way they can to pin the blame on you. So regardless of cargo light, it would have been postmaster saying "you should have brought a headlamp" to which I could have easily (and rightfully) responded: "and you should tell your idiot lackey to stop interfering with things she has no clue about".
To further illustrate just how clueless, and annoying she is/was: She asked me which relay I was on. Say I was finishing relay 7 when she asked. Relay 5 started off on Avenue X, but you only delivered that corner house and the rest was up Avenue Y. Then she asked where I'm going next, I told her Avenue X. She responded "didn't you just say you already delivered Avenue X?". Uh no, moron, last time I was on Avenue X I delivered to one house. You'd know that or maybe even figure it if you had even the slightest clue as to how this works. Just felt like telling her "look, go back to the office, sit behind your stupid desk, and play with your little computer. Because the people who do the real work around here are busy and don't have time for your nonsense".

I appreciate that. Yeah, it was passed about a week ago and it was 2 videos ago. CCA's got a pay raise and make regular in 2 years. I bet you're ready to make regular, it'll be soon for you. I recorded that yesterday lol.
Thanks for all the tips and info bro.way more help than my coworkers.I have a question dude...I started training on November and I haven’t got paid the hotel miles and per diem for it.I told all the supervisors and shop stewards and yet nothing...what can I do???
I'm sincerely baffled / confused / stressed... I just recently got out of CCA academy... They put on parts of a few different routes on different days... Because I didn't make the kind of time they absolutely wanted, they put me on an extra day of OJI training... Now they're having me train with a carrier at a different station... On one hand, I am grateful, but on another hand, it just feels odd as hell...
I've always just delivered them because then they should have a delivery scan on file. Some carriers just deliver them and don't scan them because they didn't sign for it. But in that case there's neither an arrival scan nor a delivery scan.
You're the second person to tell me that. It blows my mind cause we can't sign for customers on certified letters and just drop them in the box. Lucky you.
@@CalUsviFl you probably know by now. It's COVID-19 protocol just make sure they are home b4 u sign for them. Couple carriers have been suspended for leaving certs customers complained
There's a bunch of different factors that can come into play when delivering multiple packages. There's apps like circuit route planner, there's the fastest legal speed you can go, there's if you run to the door and back, etc. Find the best way for YOU and that's the fastest way.
There is only a percentage of standard in the office not in the street work at a pace that is comfortable with you don't try to rush because if anything happens to you your to blame always protect yourself post office don't give a shit about you your just a number

Just felt like telling her "look, go back to the office, sit behind your stupid desk, and play with your little computer. Because the people who do the real work around here are busy and don't have time for your nonsense".

Hey Mike what you doing in the mail truck on Sunday... Amazon Sunday.... Your a regular you should be at home bro. Thanks so much for the info...can you give us Info on the new cca contract when you get some time heard it passed praise God working 3 years 30,000 steps a day work for a small office next regular spot is 5 years and some change. Also thanks for you military service salute
Findout the number to your union hall and call them. All else fails, request union time and get answers.
I was told if you get a certified in your dps to bring it back to the office because it never got a arrival can
I've always just delivered them because then they should have a delivery scan on file. Some carriers just deliver them and don't scan them because they didn't sign for it. But in that case there's neither an arrival scan nor a delivery scan.
What is your typical schedule? Start time? end time? How many days off per week?
0 life that’s the answer
AH the joys a carrying. So glad I switched to MHer lol.
As far of the certify letters they are telling Us to sign for the custumer
You're the second person to tell me that. It blows my mind cause we can't sign for customers on certified letters and just drop them in the box. Lucky you.
I’m an rca and we can sign for the ones with return receipts.
@@CalUsviFl you probably know by now. It's COVID-19 protocol just make sure they are home b4 u sign for them. Couple carriers have been suspended for leaving certs customers complained
@@mikebiastock7992 very true
They would be wrong.
Takes what it takes.
ALIBIS?? SOUNDS LIKE EXCUSES TO ME DAMMIT! LIKE VINCE MCmahon says...YOURE FIRED!!
🤣🤣🤣 excuses indeed but I had to reword to sound smarter.
What's the difference between CCA 1 and CCA 2?
I just accepted a position as a RCA, do you think that it is less stressful than CCA or basically same drama.
I don't know if it's less stressful, they are similar.
Don’t forget about what we are able to use on the back of the 96
Very true.
@@CalUsviFl gotta love the guesstimate on the 96 lol
Yo I ahd to deliver 5 things at a time that thing is bad; how to get faster delivering 5 things at a time.
There's a bunch of different factors that can come into play when delivering multiple packages. There's apps like circuit route planner, there's the fastest legal speed you can go, there's if you run to the door and back, etc. Find the best way for YOU and that's the fastest way.
Its SUNDAY DAWG
Triple M never takes a day off.
There is only a percentage of standard in the office not in the street work at a pace that is comfortable with you don't try to rush because if anything happens to you your to blame always protect yourself post office don't give a shit about you your just a number
Exactly right. Well said.
Are u a carrier trainer or Union steward for carriers?? Been there done that job for 30 years!! Dont be a Slug 🐌 and u will survive and just be fine thats all that matters. 👍 Stay safe and No accidents!!
I am none of those lol.
Good advice on those newly hired CCA. The damn PO just want to make things more complicated for carriers especially those 204B’s! Suck up to the mgt . Glad I retired from those idiots! No one have the guts to make a video about mailmans life on the street. Thanks for your video! Stay safe as always! 🙏
@@chaskaabraxas5314 I appreciate that. I was second guessing myself about all these videos at first but now I'm all in.
You’re welcome Bro! Carriers are always under the radar nowadays. U cant even help a fellow carrier if they need help. U cant deviate from your route. Those scanners? I just hate them and I threw mine in the bk of the LLV when I got pissed 😤 plus those MSP pts. Those were the days! 🤪 I stayed that long coz of the TSP I saved for retirement and btw , we have COLA here in Alaska which is nice! Xtra 💰🤑 for Toys and dont tell the wife🤭🤫🤫🥱
