This information is super useful! I hardly used any other function other than SCAN BARCODE since delivering with this scanner when I started. Thank you 👍🏼
Istg. I figured surely they wouldn't send me off by myself without fully understanding everything but they did and today was my first day alone not even for the office I was hired to deliver for and boy I know I did a bunch of shit wrong smh.
I’ve never quit a job until I got this one as a rural carrier. I was no where close to be on my own and expected to be finished at a reasonable time. My advice would be not to start your US PS career during the Thanksgiving Christmas rush and besides nobody use scanners in our office as I was trained. Definitely the most challenging job up to this point of my 55 your life.
Mark you are so right about your phone working better as a GPS on Sunday. I deliver to a wealthy part of Florida that has a lot of gated communities and the scanner always tries to take me to a side entrance that has no access for arrow keys so frustrating 🤬
As an ARC I feel the scanner is constantly gaslighting me. Using load truck really tries to prioritize delivering to the right, but sometimes it doesnt. The times it doesnt is when it really really needs to. like on a busy highway. its annoying because i might have 2 packages on a street on houses across from eachother, but one will be package 15 and the next will be 25 and I have to come back. even though i was just there, I feel like im a lot more efficent if I were to sort by street and then deliver street by street, im delivering to the porch 80% of the time anyways. But the issue with that arises when a street ends and starts again in a completely different location. yesterday was sunday so we had the maps and everything so i followed my route exactly as it said and this is when I confirmed it was gaslighting me, twice in a row it said i was pulling up and it was on the right, the house and mailbox were both on the left and I doubt that was changed within the past 5 years. Then I had a package on something like 515 then another package on 510, a house i had just past to get to that one. both were on the right.
It definitely does have some issues- especially out in the country. I feel like the sorting algorithm they use is prioritizing safe delivery in the city, and it doesn't really work that well in the country. On the plus side, at least when you deliver parcel routes you are paid by straight hourly- so at least you are getting paid for the time that is wasted. It becomes easier when you learn the routes. I would sometimes ask for a printout so I could quickly flip through and look for places where I can deliver out of sequence to speed things up. One thing I would strongly suggest is, if it tells you that the next stop is more than 5 miles away and you aren't familiar with the area, check the address with the direction app on your phone- it might be right behind you. Dynamic delivery will only tell you to turn around if it things you've reached a dead end. Instead it will have you go around "the block" which could be several miles in the country.
@@davidkelln9225 once you learn this job it becomes so easy. We have a super major overburdened route that pretty much every single day I run parcels for even though it has a regular. I dont even need the scanner for that route anymore. I just *know* where everything goes. Its a good feeling

I like to case them with my flats. I don't worry about them being in exactly the right slot - I set them in top of the flats near where they go. If they don't quite fit, I will put a pen or something in the slot and set it nearby. I just fix everything as I pull down. That said, cases, routes, and carriers vary. What works for me on a given route may not work for you. You could set out six trays or buckets, grab a marker and use load truck. Scan each spr, write the sequence number on it, and throw it in the bucket based on it's section number. For example, if it says section 2, sequence 189, write 189 on it and throw it in the second bucket. Once you've scanned all of them, go into the buckets and quickly put them in numerical order. They just told me organize by street and follow your line of travel. My brain is so lost. And on my second day not knowing anything she tells me I’m too slow. Move faster.
She is mostly correct. Using those scanner features does slow things down, so you probably won't use them when you get familiar with your route. You can, but it is different (4:22 regular route, 7:06 amazon/dynamic delivery). On a regular route, it gives you the zone and customer number, for amazon, it tells you the zone and which package it is.
Do you think using load truck option marking your package for example 4/418 is better than just writing the row number on package example 4A or 4B? Also will the scanner run delivery route work on regular route or will you have issues because you have to deliver DPS in between packages?
@@everettwilson4521 so yeah, a clerk can set up a dynamic route any day of the week, but it likely won't follow your route- plus it would be really annoying listening to that while you deliver your mail. As far as which is better, load truck is a great option if you are working a route that you don't know very well- especially if you are able to put the packages in order. Some carriers group them by zone/section. When they finish delivering zone one, they stop and put zone 2 in order either in the cab or up on the shelf. Obviously this get's more challenging if you have an insane amount of packages. The payoff is that you are never hunting for a package out on your route and you save a bit of time not dealing with parcel markers. All USPS routes, address, streets are adjacent in sequential orders so, A regular letter carrier on the same route daily rememberers address and sequence of order by personal memory. If you know your route pretty well, then its likely faster just to mark your parcels by row/case from memory. For me, I take the time to write them down because I like to be able to peek at the sheet and see what is coming and what I've done. It's what is most efficient for you and keeps you sane lol. I made a video about different ways to deal with parcels: ua-cam.com/video/iz0XGQJAuYs/v-deo.html
Is it possible to do a video about logging into the scanner?
I can do that. I work tomorrow. If I get done at a reasonable time I will put something together.
Finally made one: ua-cam.com/video/2d-4D4_iGig/v-deo.html
How do you fix it if it’s on Microsoft screen
Usually you can just touch the explorer icon.
Post office training is a crash course, it’s trial by error im No elbert Einstein, casing and everything else is hard and tedious, my opinions, considering they always want you to hurry up.
thanks for the tips!!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
How does an RCA know what is in their contract?
A lot of your questions can be answered at liteblue.usps.gov, otherwise you can reach out to your union rep for help.
How do u know the order of delivery?
Can you be more specific? Do you mean a regular route or a dynamic route? Are you talking about packages or just where to turn on a regular route?
All USPS routes, address, streets are adjacent in sequential orders so, A regular letter carrier on the same route daily rememberers address and sequence of order by personal memory. A substitutes carrier need a little help and more time to set up route from other experience carrier familiar with a particular route.
I hope i can help answer. I was told to follow the DPS mail. Also, if you look at your case, the route starts at the bottom left.
If you are new, ask for a manifest. I use to get one but I've trained my brain to my route. The Manifest is the pkg address and it's in delivery order. You may see a few not listed, those are the pkgs that may have came in and scanned the night before.
The scanner is the main thing I'm struggling with
Do u check u comments, I'm new i sure would like to visit with u
@@YolandaCaldwell-l4b yep. I check from time to time.
